Yup. I find that setting the bass knob to around the 9 o’clock position tends to work out well…on pioneer mixers anyhow. Not sure where it lands on others.
@SharcyTV

Depends on the kind of music your mixing. A lot of commercial house music is mastered so that they use the entire frequency band while many underground songs are mastered keeping in mind that you will be mixing them. Also, depending on your mixer you need to make sure if your knobs are set on EQ or Isolating as there is a big difference. Finally, cutting out the lows while sweeping the song with a high-pass filter will allow you to add the incoming bassline much cleaner. (also mentioned in the video)

I wish people wouldn’t sware by mixing in key, I mix hard house and some tracks sound like they are made for each other when they are nowhere near the same key. If you always follow that then you’ll miss out on loads of great tracks that sound amazing together. Great video though mate 👏

I'm old skool, don't think, feel. So I just experiment and create and that's how I learn best, with plenty of errors on the way, but it's exciting and fun and living on the edge. However, great tutorial, clear and well explained and although I struggled to follow the depth at times, others will easily read it. We all have our learning styles, it's great that we can share so many different ways to do things online...

Greetings from Texas and Thanks. I needed that. I'm a total beginner. I have a couple of techno mixes up on my yt channel, a dnb mix, a a jungle mix, a drum funk, one trance mix, and an industrial techno mix but I don't know many tricks. It's good to know you're out here looking out for us noobs. Your step by step demos made a lot more sense than other guys I'm subbed to that never really explain what they're doing. I've played with the reverb filter and flange here and there and even some back spin to let the next track come in but nothing as subtle yet technical as what you just demonstrated. Thanks again dude.

Even better idea... Loop the vocal phrase for 4 or even 2 bars so that it just says "keep shakin it". This gives you more time to finesse the drop/transition especially if you're newer or not familiar with this technique. Also, if you've got a filter button EQs can be ignored. Applying a HPF to the exiting track will remove all the lows and have the same effect but with an extra filter effect, it's only one button you have to worry about and it just sounds better imo. Then crank the reverb as you increase the filter until the new bassline comes in, then slowly fade out the old track. I use this technique all the time, it's easier, it's safer and it sounds great.

Its amazing how easy it is now. We where doing all this without screens or all the bells&whistles by ear on two Technics1210s year's ago and all while trying to hold the beats together. I guess thats why these days there are so many great older Djs. There skills include the fundamental basics and a trained ear.

I use this exact technique, with some variations, constantly in my shows. It indeed gives impact and the hi pass filter creates more energy than just simply cutting the low a couple beats before the drop/bass swap. I also use this similarly to create a change point in techno songs that don't have a good break spot to swap, when I need to.
