Well, psychic types didn't really need more power houses. We already had Latios, latias, mew, mewtwo, alakazam, starmie, slowbro, slowking, celebi, jirachi, metagross, gardevoir the list goes on. Psychic mons were so op in gen 1 and I'm glad they added weaker psychics in gen 2 and 3.

That's also why its index number, what the game internally uses to list all the Pokémon, is at the very end of the list. Ever since the order was set with the gen 1 pokedex, starting with gen 2 the index numbers internally reflected their position in the national dex. Except for in gen 3 with chimecho, which goes "jirachi, deoxys, chimecho".

Even if it isn't good in the main series, Chimecho is freaking RAD in the Mystery Dungeon games. With heal pulse (a 4 range projectile that heals it's target) and healing wish (a move that fully heals your whole party but sets your own HP to 1), Chimecho becomes an incredibly strong healer that can heal anyone... Except himself. Edit: for clarification, even though Chimecho can learn wish and recover in the main series, they are egg moves which as a rule are VERY hard (if not impossible) to get in the Mystery Dungeon series. I did make a mistake in forgetting about rest, which Chimecho can learn by TM, but TMs are hard to get and rest has an inherent downside. Whoops, my bad! Edit 2: Whoops, something else I forgot, rest is MUCH worse in the Mystery Dungeon series, as it's effect triggers when you wake up, not when you fall asleep, so rest isn't really a good healing move against bosses.

I think Chimecho and Chingling should get a signature Psychic-type sound move, and an ability that boosts the power of sound-based moves. The Sound-type would be interesting, though. It would take some work to pull it off. I think it would be super effective against Psychic, Fighting, Bug, and possibly Water, Ghost, or Fairy. It should be resisted by Steel, Rock, and Ice. Steel doesn't really need any more resistances, but it makes sense. Finally, it would take super effective damage from Flying, and maybe Water, and would resist Fighting and Fire.

Perhaps if it got that buff a gen or two earlier, it might have had more success. I think Chimecho could be given more special defense so that it can check special attackers in lower tiers. Also, more tiers need to be added, as there are not nearly enough tiers for the number of fully evolved pokemon. There are just too many mons not viable for PU.

Giving it more special defense would not help differentiate it much. Gardevior and hypno have amazing special defense and similar hp (better in hypno's case). Musharna also has slightly higher special defense than physical. Reducing its special bulk and giving it significantly better physical bulk might actually give it an actual niche instead of just being "similar, but worse" than its competition.

Chinecho needs to be the middle stage of a Pokémon line. It’d be a decent defensive support Pokémon with evolite. A potential third evolution in the family could get an ability that turns all sound type moves into psychic moves, and it should get a bit more bulk. Basically a psychic Sylveon.

I love chimeco's design, and the whole idea of psychic types that aren't powerhouses! I ran it on my first time playing gen 6 on my bound nuzlocke, calm mind, toxic, heal bell were all useful moves and sure it ended up in the dirt, but this bell pokemon had saved many of its fellow mons before it went down. And it'll always have a special place in my memory of low power mons that carried in nuzlocke runs!

Honestly, the tier system seems a bit... strange at this point. OU - Over Used, okay. UU - Under Used, gotcha... where is the median between the two? Where is just... Used? Rarely Used, okay. Never Used - I mean... why make a tier called that? Is this where all non-viable Pokemon g- PU - "Haha, this Pokemon stinks!" Clever. And in my opinion invalidates the naming system. I really think the tiering system should went from Rank S to (eventually) Rank Z. At the moment it would probably be in Rank H or I at the most, but that ship has long since sailed for there to be any meaningful change.

Aight so, if I were to buff Chimecho, I would improve its Support capabilities. It’s stats are underwhelming, and could use a slight boost to Atleast make it respectable as a more supportive mon. Stats Hp 75->85 (+10) SpD 90->110 (+20) Spe 65->75 (+10) BST 455->495 Only having 1 ability does hinder it ALOT, reducing the things it could possibly do…so let’s give it another standard ability and a HIDDEN ability. Here are some ideas •cloud nine •serene grace •magic guard •Frisk (hidden) •shadow tag (hidden) As for moves, it’s actually not too bad, these are some things I’d add +Expanding force +thunderbolt +volt switch +ice beam +icy wind +follow me Chimecho seems like it just needs a push in the right direction. As a VGC player, I could see some good use for a SpD psychic type. Competition would be tough, but while not having the terrain Indeedee possesses, it has forms of speed control and ways to keep itself healthy while potentially working differently depending on the ability. And that’s how I would buff Chimecho

The thing is, if you use it perfectly you can get some value out of its solid move pool. Playing around Bug/Dark Types Pokemon with such Moves is a must and overall can lead to some good results. But it is, and always will be, just a bad psychic type that just has access to greater moves than most other Psychics. I like it as well, but it generally requires too much care to play with compared to Pokemon like Musharna and Hypno as better mono psychic types.

Screw it, give it an exclusive move that allows it to switch out at negative priority like Teleport, then the ally switching in will get a +1 boost in its superior offense stat (+2 if the ally has a super effective move against the opponent) for one turn. If the opponent is knocked out, the ally will heal 50% of the damage dealt. Call it "Dinner Bell" because that's what Chimecho does in PMD: she rings her bell when it's time for dinner.

It almost was. The games internally categorize Pokémon using a separate list where they're given what's called an index number. They're usually in National dex order, and Gen 3's would be if Chimecho wasn't at the end of it. This means that it was added later in the game than the rest of gen 3's additions, and likely would've been introduced in Gen 4 if someone didn't find the time to squeeze it in.

I've never got the point of baby forms. I can imagine that for mons like Jynx or Lucario to get babyforms as a way for people to get them quicker by evolving them rather than catching them in the wild but for those which you can only get by breeding? came in to say, I just finished Brilliant Diamond, and this beautiful Pokémon, saved my perfect run and was the Pokémon to beat Cynthia! Who cares how viable a Pokémon is statistically. That's the case with a lot of Pokémon who have only Levitate for their ability. I guess Game Freak wanted to make these Pokémon immune to ground but didn't want to make them flying so they sacrificed their ability to give them their ground immunity.
