How GOOD was Alistair Overeem Actually?
Alistair Overeem has been around the game for a long time. The Dutch kickboxer was an all around force and had built an impressive resume early on as a light heavyweight. But once he moved up to heavyweight, he truly became one of the best in the division. Which lead to championships in Strikeforce and DREAM. And once he entered the UFC, he was a top fighter for the promotion for a while. But he was never able to capture UFC gold and throughout his career, he has suffered some brutal losses. So how good was Alistair Overeem actually?

Alistar Overeem is a former K-1 World Grand Prix Champion, Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Dream heavyweight champion, one of the only 2 fighters to hold world titles in both mma and kickboxing at the same time . In kickboxing and mma he have 80+ fights. 65 fights in mma, 47 wins, 14 fights in kickboxing, 10 wins. Alistar got nickname „ The Demolition Man“ because he was dominating every oponent, not to mention that K-1 changed knee rules bcs of him. He was multiple times 1# contender for a UFC championship and deafted 6 former UFC champions. He was fighting in organizations like K-1,Pride,UFC,Strike Force, Dream, Rings, M-1. In his career he fought names like: Brock Lesnar, Mark Hunt(x2) Junior Dos Santos, Badri Hari(x2) Kazujuki Fujita,Dzevad Poturak,Fabricio Werdum(x3) , Ben Eward,Bigfoot Silva, Roy Nelson, Ewerton Teixeira, Frank Mir, Peter Aerts(x2) ,Stipe Miocic, Tyrone Spong, Mirko Cro Cop, Francis Ngannou, Curtis Blaydes, Alexander Volkov, Augusto Sakai, Brett Rogers, Chuck Lidlell, James Thompshon, Andrei Arlovski, Sergei Pavlovic, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Gohan Saki, Vitor Belfort(x2) ,Sergei Kharitonov(x2),Paul Buentello,Travis Browne, Ben Rothwell, Stefan Struve,Antonio Rodrigue Nougera(x2), Walt Harris, Alexey Oleynik Shougun(x2) , Igor Vovchanchyn, Ricardo Arona. Stepping in ring with just one of those guys, earns HUGE respect as a fighter. Alistar Overeem is a fighter since he was 18, he is fighting for 23 years. Now he is 41 years old man and he is still fighting and still going for a UFC title. In his mma and kickboxing career he have 17 losses by KO in a heavyweight divison, and he is still fighting and never giving up as a 41 years old man. People that are saying that is only because of steroids are stupid as hell. 80% of professional MMA fighters and professional athlets are on steroids or some other illegal things. Alistar was just too obvious because of his body. I mean cyclists are all on steroids and they all dont look great, you don’t have to bee muscular to be on steroids.

Still sucks that Randy / Brock vs Fedor didn't happen. I think Randy may have been able to beat Fedor, idk about Brock, he may have been too strong for Fedor, but its not like he hasn't fought big guys before. Its genuinely one of the largest tragedies in MMA that those fights didn't happen.

@Joe Dirt Dana’s own words. Can’t speak on any pride promoters. But as far as the UFC, which arguably has the best of the best he never turned down a single fight. And I have respect for both of those fighters but many ppl have gone on record talking about fixed fedor fights in Japanese promotions... sure it’s couldn’t be the other way around? I honestly can’t speak on the Japanese promotions because non of it was sanctioned properly and all of it ran by the Yakuza mob.. so... it’s kinda murky territory. But something to think about. Pretty gross to talk down on a guy during his retirement who is definitely a legend of the sport. Hate all you want bro

Overeem is truly a personification of getting back up from humiliating losses, to humiliate opponents by winning. He never took a loss to heart. Regardless of rivalry, and shit-talking. His rivalry with Badr Hari was the epitome of rivalries in K-1, when Badr was a monster among men. He lost 1st round TKO to Badr as Badr had predicted (in their 2nd fight). Yet, 5 months later, the reem being who he is, was training partners with Badr who helped him improve his stand-up fighting. An amazing personality!

What a beautiful video! been a fan of him since the early 2000's. Yup, so much highs and lows in a a storied career, that I am sure not alot of pro fighters today get to experience and willing to have seen it all like Reem did. I am not sure what's next for him, perhaps sign elsewhere have a few bouts, who knows maybe an immediate title fight at another org?

He deserves a 9.5 Hes fought in Dream, StrikeForce, Pride, and UFC. and a losing streak through his career is 2 loses, followed by a few wins. And to be accurate he's fought in 4 seperate decades (the 1990's, 2000's, 2010's, 2020's.)

I wish we would recognize more fighter like him with imperfect records but that has fought anyone anytime. Legend in Muay Thai all have 30+ defeat. But they fight against the best. The thing though is Alistair fought at heavy weight so a lot of his defeat were memorable kos.
