Frankie had great longevity in the sport and it is still nuts thinking about how he beat the best fighters despite being undersized

Easily one of my favorites ever. He was the ultimate underdog of the ufc and even with his lows, he still has a pretty insane resume. Mendes, Penn 3x, Maynard, Yair, Swanson 2x, Stephens, Oliveira, and more great fighters.

It really sucks how many fans forget out all time great fighters like Frankie. I was a huge BJ Penn fan when he beat him the first time, so obviously I wasn't an immediate fan. However as time went of his body of work spoke for itself and he was in my opinion the very definition of "Heart" in the UFC. Also, when "Kick in the door" hit in the arena everyone would get hyped, because they knew Frankie was about to put it all on the line like he always did every time he made that walk. Such a legend!

Edgar vs. Maynard 3 is still one of my favorite fights ever! Started out just as bad for Frankie as their second fight, getting badly rocked and nearly finished, but when Edgar stormed back and KO'd Maynard, I leapt out of my seat, screaming like a psycho. I distinctly remember waking up my wife and newborn son, both of whom were in another room. She wasn't particularly happy with me, but I regret nothing. A helluva comeback, for a helluva champion!

He was a 145er not only competing but being a champ at 155. He's literally smaller than Jose Aldo but fought bigger opponents. He's still in my top 10 till this day

A super long lived career, had success in two of the most ruthlessly stacked divisions in the UFC. Dude was undersized even for 145 and even still was able to be a top tier fighter at 155, 145 and 135.

I wish we saw Khabib vs prime Ben Henderson. He was one of the few elite wrestlers at LW apart from Islam and Khabib. That's why Dustin hasn't lost to anyone apart from champs pretty much, he's not that good at wrestling but it doesn't get exposed.

Frankie was a beast. It’s unfortunate he was in the small weight classes. It’s hard to compete when your older at the smaller classes. But he had solid wins that’s aged real well up until recently. He even competed well against young contenders.

@@folksurvival I assume he means the 'pre-Reebok' UFC era, when fighters still had sponsors on their shorts, their corner-men wore what they liked, and they even had their corners unravel sponsor banners like war flags during announcements. It was an era of the sport that I greatly miss.

@@madgavin7568 Yeah maybe that's what he meant to write. I preferred the pre-sponsorhip era when the octagon was clean and the men wore gis or plain shorts/pants. The sport would be much better without all the ugly graphics everywhere. Even during the trashy sponsorship era (but pre Reebok) it was better than now though, I agree there, mostly because fighters could at least still have their own identity with their own shorts. I think it was a big mistake for the UFC to remove that. Think about the iconic shorts of Tito, Chuck, BJ Penn, Rampage, Cro Cop, Silva etc. I think they hurt their own business by stopping that.

Frankie had the skills to the very end, his chin just didn't hold up. Chito had a hard time with him before the KO. To this day my favorite win of his was against Yair when he was far past his peak.

not just he is already battle worn in his 2 former weight class and the fight game already evolved from his younger years, they forgot that the more you cut weight your durability will further diminish. thats why his last 3 KOs are devastating.

Almost every fan online crapped all over UFC 125. Specifically, the main event between Edgar and Maynard. It's a shame, as I'm sure most refused to watch. A legend was born that night. Their loss.

Everyone has their own opinions I’m fine with being near alone on this opinion Mma was my number 1 sport from 2005-215 so a decade Edgar is the 155 goat to ME.
