How GOOD was Dominick Cruz Actually?
Dominick Cruz is considered to be the greatest MMA bantamweight of all time . The former 2 time UFC bantamweight champion used his unorthodox movement to attack from angles and throw combs. He was also had a good wrestling base and was very durable. But what truly hindered him from being called the pound for pound greatest were his injuries. So how good was Dominick Cruz actually?

As a man who's had the privilege of training with Dom, he really is that good. He makes everything that he does look obscenely easy, and when called on it, is just the best dude ever and says "it's not easy, it takes thousands of hours of practice, and you always have room for improvement, just try your best and keep going, learn from your failures." Guy's the real deal.

Something to note was that Cody really looked into Dom's footwork and trained countering his movement patterns for example widening his stance to nullify Dom's attempts to gain the outside foot whenever they we're in opposite stances, or bullrushing dom when he tries to quickly snapback

Im sure it was a mix of stuff but the injury definitely had a big part in it but I always assumed that the war between him and Lawler had a lot to do with it. Neither of them had great performances after that and went on long losing streaks. Really think it was one of those fights that takes a lot out of both fighters.

Yeah, what happened to Cruz sucked so much. It's always a real blow when such a great fighter has their career cut short by these kinds of injuries, even if these fights do recover they're rarely the same fighter as before. To a lesser extent i feel the same about Brock Lesner in MMA too. If he never got that illness and had to underdo multiple surgeries who knows how his UFC career would have gone, before the illness he was an absolute monster and after he was nowhere near the same guy.

Cruz is one of my all time favorites, definitely the best bantamweight of all time. With that being said, Cody's performance against Cruz was unreal, i'm still shocked to this day. @@20timesmanunited20lol. For sure. In my opinion if he fights way more like a counter striker and passive like Machida in his prime he won't have many that can beat him. His takedown defense is insane as well as his striking. Only thing is, his fight IQ and chin holding him back imo. If he fights like this him along with Cruz are the best guys to beat Triple C. Hopefully he wins, I mean he said some weird stuff on TUF and in media but I don't think he is a bad dude lol. I'd hate for him to see his career end or flop.

I agree Cruz is one of the best analysts & commentators out there, but I don't know if I'd say THE best analyst. I think Dan Hardy also ranks right up there in terms of analysis, but Dom & Dan both have exceptional talent for analysing different aspects of the game. Dom is hands-down the best analyst in terms of the mental & psychological aspects, whereas Dan Hardy I think is the best analyst out there in terms of the physical techniques, stylistic matchups & strategies. I never watch a fight I'm excited about without watching Dan Hardy's 'War Room" video beforehand, because having a good idea what to look for from each fighter during the action adds a whole extra layer to the experience. Dominick is a master of the mental/psychological aspect, he has almost a sixth sense for what kind of headspace a fighter is in, their mindset/mentality & how tough they are mentally, but he's also got incredible understanding of the physical components, techniques & strategies of the fight game which is what makes him almost on par with Rogan in terms of commentating. Basically Dan Hardy is better analysing film when he can pause, slow down & highlight the subtle, intricate details of what's happening, but Dom is far better when the action is live.

I feel like Yoel Romero has a similarly unorthodox style.
@eldenlean5221
@eldenlean5221 4 жыл бұрын
@@whatdothlife4660 I mean Romero is unorthodox but I would say he is the total opposite of Cruz. While they are both very technical fighters, Romero has insane power but not much else, so he's usually waiting on openings, even taking damage, until he finds an opening and explodes. Cruz doesn't have the one shot KO power yoel has, but his footwork is second to none, he uses unorthodox movement to create angles and set up his opponents.

I think you also have to bring in his dodging statistics. He has the highest evasion in the UFC. That in itself is extremely impressive. Paired with his comeback, 4 years out of the octagon to beat the current champ. That speaks volumes in of itself. He’s also explained the Cody loss before. He was cut early and had to change his game plan, I think he said he couldn’t see properly either. I would LOVE to see a Cody vs Dom rematch.

Having watched him grow and develop literally from the jump,I’ve yet to experience another fighter who’s work ethic and drive married so flawlessly with endless class, intellectual showmanship that enabled him to enlighten the fans by dissecting the fight in a way we could all understand while simultaneously breaking those fighters styles and game plans ,and benefiting himself utilizing that same astronomical fight iq. Pure champ amd brother from the cradle to the grave.
