Regigigas might actually have a shot at not being completely unusable this time around. The Home moveset datamines revealed that it finally got thrown a bone and will be able to learn Rest and Protect to better get around Slow Start. Plus it will get Body Slam to fit Normal STAB and paralysis status into one slot and leave room for coverage like Knock Off or Drain Punch

i remember my first playthrough of pokemon silver when i was a kid. when will sent out his xatu and i heard its cry for the first time, to me, it sounded like a "shit's getting real" cry for some reason and when it fired off its psychic, my jaw dropped, because i didn't meet any pokemon that knew psychic until that point, plus, the animation made my screen go crazy in a addition to the massive damage it dealt. to me, it was so epic and i wish i could be a kid and play pokemon silver for the first time again but i'm glad i have that memory :)

This evolution line has to be one of my absolute favorites, so I'm glad we finally got some coverage on their interesting competitive past! From their design, to their concept, ability, and moveset this has to be one of the most well thought out pokemon in the series, so it's nice to see that this pokemon is an adequate competitive pokemon on top of all that. It's sort if interesting how they play so similarly to their intended design (being so prediction based makes one think if you really do have to be a psychic to play them well).

FUN FACTS: Xatu in the Anime is seen using a form of communication similar to Semaphore. Quoting directly from the Wikipedia page regarding Flag Semaphore "Flag Semaphore is the telegraphy system conveying information at a distance by means of visual signals with hand-held flags, rods, disks, paddles, or occasionally bare or gloved hands. Information is encoded by the position of the flags; it is read when the flag is in a fixed position. Semaphores were adopted and widely used (with hand-held flags replacing the mechanical arms of Shutter Semaphores) in the Maritime world in the Ninteenth century. It is still used during Underway Replenishment at sea and is acceptable for emergency communication in daylight or using lighted wands instead of flags at night." In addition to this unique detail regarding Xatu, both Natu and Xatu are not only based on Totem Poles and the Oriental Quetzal (the national bird of the Country Guatemala), but also a special type of Ceremonial figurine or doll know as the Kachina Doll. Kachina Dolls were widely used by groups within the Pueblo Tribes and cultures of Native Americans. These groups consisted of the Hopi, Zuni, Hopi-Tewa, and certain Keresan Tribes as well as other within the region of New Mexico. The dolls themselves were made to resemble beings know as the Kachina, who were essentially the spiritual personification of things in the real world usually in nature. They could consist of sacred element, location, personality trait or skill, or natural phenomenon. Some examples include the Sun, Stars, Thunderstorms, Wind, Corn, or Insects. Although not worshiped, if the Kachina were revered with respect, they could use their particular powers for the benefit of human beings. Some of these powers consisted of bringing Rainfall, Physical and Mental Healing, Fertility, and Protection. This just goes to show just how well thought out Pokémon designs are. Even if they make several large mistakes, GameFreak almost always makes sure to do their research. Good idea : chansey and porygon 2 where staple taks of their hown metagames , dusklops reaches unreal levels of bulk , and sciter is simply terryfying in the lower tiers , since it can both use tecnician boosted quick attacks , tank some hits by roosting , boosting his attack with swords dance and then wreak a team by being fast and dealing damage ... Also like rydon and piloswine where useful in the lower tiers , like having extra conk allows mons to simply make a better use of the rest of their kit , there are no doubts over that ...

I’m not quite sure that heavy duty boots were quite the reason it was so popular in gen 8 RU. Its primary job is to keep stealth rock off the field in the first place, making such an item redundant compared to the residual damage from rocky helmet or even stuffing knock off/poltergeist via not running an item.

Based on all these videos I've seen, it seems Abilities have a greater weight on deciding what ends up in OU than almost anything else. In the case of Xatu, its jump to OU came as the result of acquiring Magic Bounce, which more than makes up for its mediocre stats. On the flipside, we have Regigigas and Slaking, who have amazing stats, but whose horrible Abilities just make them more or less un-viable for competitive play. And having both a great ability and great stats, like Garchomp or Sand Rush Excadrill, gets you banned to Ubers.

I find it funny that Xatu has just casually stood by and watched multiple power creeps come and go and was completely unphased (things have literally fallen from OU and UU all the way to untiered, but Xatu is just like "Pathetic")

Ah! My favorite birb! I didn't use it on my Crystal playthrough but only on Showdown. The stats is mediocre, I think, but the movepool is amazing. Magic Bounce is also amazing. I love this Pokemon!

I used to play Ubers a lot back in BW/BW2, and I was pretty high in the main server's ladder. Sometimes I really needed a magic bouncer, so I ran Xatu with Light Clay, dual screens, roost and foul play/toxic depending on the team's needs. Foul Play was quite the strong move if I could predict an extreme killer arceus-ghost, deoxys-a or a giratina-o coming in. It also worked decently as an anti-lead against Deoxys-S.

What is it with older Pokemons up to Gen. 4 that started off either average or plain bad, but than gotten to be an whole lot better started in Gen. 5 & onwards? Blaziken. Ho-Oh. Venomoth. Xatu. It's like in Gen. 5 gifted them these older Pokemon another just so they can become stronger now. On the other hand though. I'm so glad Xatu gotten Magic Bounce for it's Hidden Ability because it helps alot. This is how u do it Game Freak. It's not really that hard to do.

It's because of Sky Battles forcing all flying Pokémon to be airborne so they could just reuse the model there, and sadly a lot flying mons look ridiculous because of it.

I like Xatu pretty much, his Psychic/Flying Type is such a good combo, and i Buffed him with a Evolution, i create for Natu Evolution line a exclusive item the Mystic Totem, Like Pikachu's Light Ball os Double his stats but in Def and Sp Def for final gave Xatu acess to Earth Power.

I remember all the way back in Sapphire, where I caught a shiny Natu in the Safari Zone. But since this is a Pokemon obtained in Generation III, it is without Magic Bounce, still a cool catch though. As for Magic Bounce itself, it really turned the whole game of entry hazards on its head, with Xatu being an exceptional bearer of the ability.

Xatu also had a very specific niche as a Dual Screens setter in Late USUM UU for a while! It traded Azelf’s speed and power for a slightly better defensive typing and much better bulk when invested into, and Magic Bounce helped to ensure that those Screens would go up anyway. Most folks preferred Azelf, but Xatu was still very much capable of enabling UU’s best setup sweepers: SD Scizor, DD Feraligatr, Venomoth, and friends.
