It amazes me how so many people dismiss the athleticism of these older generations - so many of them were true multi sport talents. It was more often than not the rules of Basketball that slowed them down. There are exceptions on both sides of the athletic scale.

absolutely its crazy. people think humans have evolved to the point where the athletes of the past couldnt compete. its crazy!

@@Rocky2kYT - there is an amazing video here on you tube that talks about the difference in eras and essentially states that any advancements are due more as a result of equipment (surface, shoes etc). Whether you/people want to believe Wilts 46-48” vertical or not you can sure as hell bet that had he had todays court and shoes and the ability to train on them he would have been better still. Elgin Baylor was listed at 6’5” (probably 6’6” in todays measurements), was top 5 4x and top 10 8x in rebounds per game over a 12 year career (actually 14 but only played 11 games over the final two so…) while playing in an era where the big guy was the focus point. You can’t tell me elite athleticism wasn’t a factor for him to be able to grab those boards.

@@sambeaumont395 you are correct. genetics are still the genetics of a human no matter what era. we have our limitations. Equipment can help us reach a slightly greater level though!
