“Believe in the me, that believes in you” You don’t think you can do it. But you believe in me right. Well I believe you can do it. So if you can’t believe in yourself, believe that I am right about you. It really is perhaps a pure distillation or what a self doubting person needs to hear and a great way to start work your way out of depression.

Towards the end of the last episode when Simon is talking to a boy who's drinking a coconut or whatever, Simon tries to say "Who the hell do you think I am?" but sees that the boy isn't listening and then says "I guess I'm no one...". Man that scene broke my heart

Simon didn't fall in love with his own legend, he didn't demand humanity show their gratitude by making him king and naming a month after him - he willingly hung up his weapons, and went into quiet retirement. He says "I guess I'm no-one" with real humility and a smile, and doesn't cling to his past or pine for some idea of lost glory. That's possibly his most superhuman moment, to me.
@Jafs
@Jafs 4 жыл бұрын
@@FullMetalJackson very true. It shows the true maturity from Simon who went from a scared shitless kid, to idolising kamina, to the literal god of the universe and finally giving all of that up and choosing the path of humility. Simon doesn't adapt kaminas persona he just solidifies his own, the kind and humble Simon that everyone knew was in him all along

@@Jafs The thing that really got me during that scene was the spiral eye that Simon had. We know that through the power of the spiral that Lord Genom had lived for a thousand years. I feel that Simon will live for a long time and become humanities quiet observer, savior, and protector. The series was left open ended in my opinion and it was great way for the viewer to decided how the story really ends for them.

*SPOILERS* God I love this anime. Every time I’m reminded of it I feel such a strong nostalgia that tears start to well and a smile starts to stretch across my face, because this series brought me to both those extremes. This video actually made me remember of a middle school memory, where after the episode where Kamina had passed away, I was so devastated that I planned to make a memorial for him. I was in my English class practicing stylizing Kamina’s name and the girl who I had a crush on saw me writing his name and asked me if that was the name of my girlfriend and I said yeah 😅

This show had a very similar effect on me tbh. When I was unsure of my own self-worth and was content to waste my days away as a nobody who would never move out from home or get a job, I found this series. It changed me, too. It made me look at the world in a new way. When my pop died, I was grief-stricken, and I didn't know what to do. This series showed me that even in the face of the death of a loved one, you can carry their will with you to keep them alive and strengthen yourself. I started using "Who the hell do you think I am" to psyche myself up. I AM damn important, and if you underestimate me, you'll be sorry. That kind of mindset may seem arrogant, but it got me to believe in myself. I got a job. I moved away from home. Started living with my girlfriend. And while I'm far from successful or rich, I'm also far from being done growing. We move forward, a little with each turn. That's how a drill works. And it's why Gurren Lagann saved me, and allowed me to become my best self.

I had a very similar experience with this Anime. In a way it changed my life and made me realize that I always wanted to do something great. However I also realized that I was a lot like Simone in the begging. Once I watched it I really started crying because I realized that I never believed in my self enough to do anything that wasn’t going to be easy for me. I stayed “digging my tunnels” because I was good at it. I did this to the point of never trying anything new because I thought everyone was going to be better at it than me so I didn’t even allow myself to try. Now I try new things and actively shoot for the stars because I became the me who believes in me! Thanks for making this video its nice to know I’m not the only person who took this series to heart and was transformed by it.

Kamina teaches Simon to believe in himself for the sake of those around him who believe in him. But we quickly learn that this is not sustainable, as Simon seeps into darkness after Kamina, his inspiration and source of motivation and self-confidence, dies. He has no reason to believe in himself anymore. That's why later, Nia teaches him that he is someone of value too, giving him new motivation and a regained self-confidence. Before that, Kamina had also told him to "believe in the you that believes in you". This is a very powerful thing to say, and represent Simon's growth from an insecure boy to a man. That's beautiful. It's also powerful because it says more than just believing in yourself. It also tells you to modify your self-image, to believe in yourself. Beliefs and identity motivate our actions, behaviors, and habits in ways we often underestimate. We often set out to self-improve by focusing on what we should do, instead of who we are and what we believe. We set goals and actions, but ignore the identity and beliefs that will drive those very actions. That's why "believe in the you that believes in yourself" is so powerful. In this seemingly simple phrase, it tells you to modify your self-image to believe in yourself. It tells you to believe in the self-confident version of yourself. And it's made powerful because Kamina spent time showing Simon that Simon was capable of great things in the first half. There is a very good build-up from "believe in the me that believes in you" to "believe in the you that believes in yourself". "believe in the me that believes in you" represents teamwork and leadership built upon trust. Kamina himself believes in himself because he believes in Simon. He said it himself that, whenever he felt discouraged, he remembered the back of Simon steadily digging. Kamina is a great leader because he inspires the entirety of Team Dai Gurren to believe in him, and thus believe in themselves because Kamina believes in them, but he is strong as a leader because he believes in them. His leadership is built upon mutual confidence and trust. "believe in the you that believes in yourself" represents confidence built upon a congruent self-image

It was bold,it was fast,it was colorful and cheerful but it also had a lot of heart,it was surreal but also deep,it was ecentric in its plot and character and above all it was SO DAMM FUN! So yeah this is an anime that will pierce the heavens and take its place amongst the star.

For me, Gurren Lagann is a pure source of energy just as it seems it was for you and many others, even without having been in a particularly depressed state of mind (or maybe I was but didn't realize it haha). The only other anime that really stick to me as a person are Code Geass and Steins Gate, both of which I need to rewatch. Whether it was the social commentary on the absoluteness of inequality, what drives humanity and what we seek, the shape of happiness, or that even in a world where everyone lives their own individual versions of life, we are all connected in ways far beyond our comprehension, these anime were very thought provoking and were media that had far greater meaning than the psychological thriller, drama or romance that made them entertaining to watch.

What's also absolutely beautiful about the "Believe in me, that believes you" quote is, is how it advanced to "Believe in the you, that believes in yourself". Which is just a convoluted way to say "believe in yourself" and by itself it makes absolutely no sense. But since it came from the original quote and were kaminas last words, it packs so much meaning. And I absolutely love the evolution of this phrase. Believe in yourself! Not the me that believes in you. Not the you that believes in me either. Just believe in the you that believes in yourself!

It's the reason I am an Anime fan at all. Watched it out of curiosity when people were talking about it below a music "video" I was watching. (It was just a still image of Yoko.) I had watched nothing but occasional toonami before this and holy shit. EVERY. EMOTION. WAS. FELT. It made me happy, sad (i even cried for the first time to media in my life), hype as fuck, laughter. Goddamnit it had it all. The tightest, well-paced Anine I have ever fucking seen. An Absolute masterpiece.

Hello, I hope you see this. I watched this video a little over a month ago. It peaked my interest in this show just to give it a try. I started watching it a few weeks after and it was ok and kind of slow at the beginning but I stuck with it. I finally decided to binge it from episode 5 to the end two days ago. I am so happy I did. This was a great anime. I love Kamina and his catch phrase. I found myself saying this to my wife. The episode when Simone finally got his confidence and beat the mole general was my favorite. I loved his development and how he gained the confidence in himself. It brought me to tears. I didn't like how some of his friends tried to play him in season 2. But thank you soooo much for recommending this. Believe in the me that believes in you now sticks with me.

Dude, I can 100% relate to everything you've said. Gurren Lagann changed my life too, and whenever I feel down or unmotivated, just listening to the opening/ost or big scenes give me that power up that makes me instantly smile and just feel good really. Gurren Lagann is an amazing creation, both as a series and as an artistic piece of work. The over the top characters and action with the over the top in your face motto of DOING THE IMPOSSIBLE really became my own motto in life. And as an artist, this kind of message where you need to go beyond and do the impossible, do something you wouldnt even think of, and becoming great at it is a very powerful one. Gurren Lagann is so good. Much much love mate. Great to see others who have the same passion for a show I so Highly love.

This video hit me really hard in the feelings. When I saw Gurren Lagann I was also going through a very tough time, very much alone and in a foreign country. TTGL gave me an indescribable power up and I still shed a couple tears of joy when I rewatch key moments. This series is an emotional treasure

I agree so much Gurren Lagann is truly amazing. There are no problems with this series. I just watched this series for the first time and I can not even describe how I feel. There is just s much optimism and confidence flowing through me. I have been having not a super good time in high school right now. But this show his given me an experience I will never forget and optimism for the future and confidence to carve out my own my own path.

Fun fact: I had this exact same experience. This november for NaNoWriMo - in the spirit of Kamina, Simon and the fighting spirit - I wrote a million words in a month to finish a novel. It was tough, but with the faith in myself this show gave me, I kept pushing through and actually did it.

When I first started going to the gym of my own accord I would watch the Giga Drill Breaker scene from the movie and Escanor's fight with Estarossa. The fire those lit under my ass made walking through the early morning chill in shorts much easier to tolerate.

Very similar boat, this show was the driving force to get me going in high school, even now I still return back to those moments. Honestly, the change and the upbeat attitude I started to have towards the end of high school was annoying to my friends and even now, people in high school can't believe who I became. All thanks to this show!

An anime about going beyond your limit. The symbolism behind using a drill to pierce any obstacle. The inspiration and excitement you feel when they overcome those obstacles. These are just some of the things that make it my all-time favorite anime. I just love the feeling of "I can do anything" that it gives me. Praise the Spiral!

Well, yeah, this anime litteraly like the Motivational Injection for some of us, because of this, many of us maybe dare to challenge theirself to do what they think it's impossible. Same for me, never thought I would become a Public Speaker, just after watching this anime make me wanna explore and team up with some crazy people who dares to challenge something odd, it did work

I especially love that line, because there is never a time it doesn't fit. Even if I may not really believe in you, you aren't believing in me, you are believing in the me that believes in you. You trust the ideal perfect version of me that you know, not the flawed human I really am. No matter what happens to me, there is always that "ideal me" you know, and that is the one you should believe in. Believe in the perfect person who objectively knows you can do it, not the secretly flawed human who subjectively thinks you can do it.

I discovered Gurren Lagann at the lowest point of my life. It's optimistic message was key into climbing out of the hole I dug myself into called Depression. Simon's character development was especially important to me because the driving force of my depression (or at least a good amount of it) was that I had lost someone very dear to me and didn't know how to deal with the grief. I felt Simon's greif as if it were my own, it spoke to me on a level no other story ever had. It showed me that your life doesn't have to stop because you lost someone. It doesn't mean you've forgotten that person or what they meant to you if you continue to move forward with your life. And if Simon could do it, so could I. And eventually, I did. I probably would have found my way out of that hole without Gurren Lagann but it came to me just when I needed it most. And the best part? It's been 6 years and I haven't fallen back into any form of depression again.

I just got into the anime about a month ago, n when I heard the 2 movies were getting their first US theatrical release as part of the 15th anniversary, I bought tickets immediately. Such a spectacle to see on the big screen. I instantly fell in love with Gurren Lagann. Attack On Titan is my favorite anime, but man Gurren is really giving it a run for its money. If not closely tied for my favoite anime, it's an EASY second! I LOVE everything about Gurren Lagann. Besides the hilarious moments and the over the top action that literally is in a constant state of "oh ya? Watch this" and going crazier and crazier every fight, the story was just soooo damn cool. Sure the "believe in yourself" thing has been done to death, but it felt fresh here, n I dunno why. But even that aside, imo the syory was super unique. The twist when you find out Lordgenome ACTUALLY WAS trying to save humanity, fuckin wild. He actually was a good guy, just went about things in a tyrannical manner, but even that makes perfect sense. Oh man, I could gush about this show and its story untill my fingers fall off, but ain't no one wanna read all that. Gurren Lagann is absolute PERFECTION and tippity top tier PEAK writing. Take the anime, and add the ending of the 2nd movie? Perfection perfected! But you know what, YOUR video is the video that TRULY made "believe in the me that believes in you" make sense to me. Thank you.

Gurren Lagann is my all time favorite anime, show, and general media! I agree so much with everything you said. Everything is gorgeously made, the characters are fantastic, the messages are real, and the animation is outstanding! The ost makes my heart race just listening to it, and also cry. God I sobbed like a baby at the end. Simon is my favorite fictional character, like ever. (Followed by Mori Jin)
