I love the alteration of Kamina's "your drill is the drill that pierces the heavens" into Simon's "my drill is the drill that creates the heavens." It transforms one of the show's core messages from "if you believe in yourself, you can surpass all limits" into "if you believe in yourself, the only limits you have are those you make yourself" And that's...so awesome

There’s also the parallel that has with Simon’s speech to the anti spiral about how the only limits he has are the ones he created, of course being just before this

One subtle thing I really love about Simon coming into his own is how he doesn’t repeat Kamina’s grief-stricken mistake once he dies thanks to Kamina’s last piece of advice more specifically “Don’t believe in the me that believes in you” because if you remember when he finds his father’s remains, Kamina takes his cape but when Kamina dies Simon doesn’t take anything of his, he leaves his sword and cape as a grave and lets someone else pilot Gurren instead of taking it for himself because if he keeps trying to live up to a dead man like Kamina did he’s just going to end up in the ground with him and like he said they lost something that could never be replaced

I love the part where he sees his bro one last time and Kamina says “When the Hell you get bigger than me?” It’s was symbolic and literal. We always see Kamina as larger than life. Yet in many ways even in the most literal Simon had grown bigger.

Gurren lagann literally saved my life. I was Rossiu, and about to quit. I randomly found TTGL. Watching TTGL got me to believe I could go on. Got me thinking "future me believes in me, so I can too". Now that I am future me I do believe in past me. I went from 0 spiral power to a place in my life where I can encourage others to get back up and pierce the heavens. Never give up, you can do it, I believe in you.

Tears, just tears. Gurren Lagann is my all time fav and Ithink it will always be. It's almost impossible to find something that generates the same as ttgl did. I love to see everyone's videos on this show, everytime I see a small video I instantly watch it. I love the community so much, we all have this feeling of brotherhood. Finding someone who shares the same passion for something you love is unique, since we are not a huge community it's always nice to came across people like you. Came from Reddit btw

So I rewatched the anime recently, I notice Kamina only changes from "Believe in me who believes in you" to "Believe in you who believes in you" when he knows he is about to die. He who is always speaking about himself suddenly shift everything to Simon, as if to tell him, you don't need me, you are your own man. Subtle things like this is what makes the series awesome.

gurren lagaan shaped me so much. I watched this show when i was just a kid and it really crystallised what the whole series is referring to. That deep irrational faith in that you can get through it all, with the right fighting spirit. I love rewatching GL when I feel like my spirit is fading and I don’t feel passion and fire in my life. It’s been a reference point reminding me to always have faith in myself and to be alive is to go forward and give it everything.

I STILL remember watching this when it came out initially PURELY for Hot-Anime-Girl (Yoko), then suddenly being all choked up & tears being crushed by Ep 8/9 and then realising that we are not even half way. Probably still on of my all time favourites for that the climax endings Before and After time skip. Bloody hell I had a wave of emotions just watching this. I also had NO CLUE the Movies existed

Typing this as I pass 6:30, something worth noting is that Kamina died before he got back up. When they combine to form Gurren Lagann, Gurren's cockpit is empty, and Kamina's corpse is forced to move through sheer fighting spirit.

I am very biased towards people who like things that I like, while said things don't get the recognition it deserves. I have first watched Gurren Lagann when I was 7 or 8, not really understanding any intricasies, just indulging in the fighting and shouting. This year, I remembered watching it back in the day after randomly seeing clips of ep 11, where Simon picks himself up, so I just took that day to rewatch it fully. I understood some messages behind Gurren Lagann, but after videos like yours I've been given even more to understand. My fascination ran deep and I placed it on second place of my all-time favourites. After failing several times to get my friends to watch it, I rewatched it again. Don't know why. Just felt like it. Then I managed to convince one to watch it side by side. That would mark the third rewatch this year. Another friend agreed and I rewatched it a fourth time. My algorithm started to bombard me with Gurren Lagann videos, which brought me here. I'm not exactly sure why I'm writing all of this, but just know that I just wanted to say thank you for giving me another why to look upon Gurren Lagann.

I think it's worth mentioning in the movie when Simon goes down to fight the anti-spiral 1v1 Lagann literally throws Simon into the fray. The anti-spiral always fight on an "equal" field so the anti-spiral engages in a fist fight but there's one thing they never expected that Simon's will to be stronger than their own. while it may be what is framed as a misguided effort by the anti-spiral to shut down the universe it is implied they truly believe the universe will end if they don't halt evolution, it took a lot of strength and willpower for them to dominate and subjugate not only themselves but every spiral race. Yet there was one thing they couldn't defeat Simon's determination to live up to the destiny he and Kamina laid out together. even as they die their final words are "protect the universe at all costs" to which Simon responds "of course humanity isn't that stupid."

I just got into the anime about a month ago, n when I heard the 2 movies were getting their first US theatrical release as part of the 15th anniversary, I bought tickets immediately. Such a spectacle to see on the big screen. I instantly fell in love with Gurren Lagann. Attack On Titan is my favorite anime, but man Gurren is really giving it a run for its money. If not closely tied for my favoite anime, it's an EASY second! I LOVE everything about Gurren Lagann. Besides the hilarious moments and the over the top action that literally is in a constant state of "oh ya? Watch this" and going crazier and crazier every fight, the story was just soooo damn cool. Sure the "believe in yourself" thing has been done to death, but it felt fresh here, n I dunno why. But even that aside, imo the syory was super unique. The twist when you find out Lordgenome ACTUALLY WAS trying to save humanity, fuckin wild. He actually was a good guy, just went about things in a tyrannical manner, but even that makes perfect sense. Oh man, I could gush about this show and its story untill my fi gers fall off, but ain't no one wanna read all that. Gurren Lagann is absolute PERFECTION and tippity top tier PEAK writing. Take the anime, and add the ending of the 2nd movie? Perfection perfected! Edit: goddammit! This video got me so hyped I could cry! 100% rewatching the series again today. Its only been like 2 weeks or so since I finished the show, but shit, I live it so much I have 0 issue going back and watchin it again right away. "We evolve beyond the person we were a minute before! Little by little, we advance a bit further with each turn. That's how a drill works!"

Gurren lagann is a n anime that has soooooooo many levels of time, logic, narrative, and understanding to it is almost impossible to get the full breath and appreciation of the writing behind this anime on a first watch. Gurren lagann is the best anime in my opinion because of the fact that there is so much more to pull out of this anime than just what is shown upon the surface and if you are willing and capable you can dive in further to it. its been theorized that Spiral power is capable of bring back the dead and with Simon power, its is possible to do. If Simon brings back Nia, why not Kamina? Why not the Kitan and the others? Why not the whole humanity? There is no clear line to be drawn. But in doing so, its will ultimately bring the end to the universe via "Spiral Nemesis" that the anti-spiral was fearing about. and that why Simon didnt do so..............

3:07 under playing it aren't you? Why? Why is Anderus so much lesser than Kaminas. Kaminas too can become quite detructive and it did, it led to the end of universe just so he could watch his mess tear it apart. Both have good and bad points to their ideology but seeing that for some reason aleast generally the beastmen are just men, no women and more importantly because you talk about this beastmen like this tells me they weren't well written. Like they good concept of showing a Flaw in Kamina's belief while still being flawed themselves. Why do they believe in the others that believe in them to the extreme, rather than use that basis to race the expectaitons of yourself? Apperantly the humans don't actually engange with because that would mean actually understanding te balance of confidence and Humility, confidence can easily become Arrogance as you ingore the reality around you. Humility can be couvter intutive, as focusing on others can forget you can't do that if you can't focus on your self. A good deal that should led to, ROW ROW CONTROL THE POWER. The power is needed but it can't just be built infinetly without a limit it'll destroy anything worthwhile.(which yeah that happens as you gotta understand, due to luck sometimes you can't see the invisble or stop the unstoppable, but that doesn't you can't use your powah) Veruk should've and I hope he did find the balance of caring for his people's safety in stopping the constant danger of SPiral power while also understanding to not be too oppressive on those who want him to also be. Kamina should've understood while his dream is a grand aspiration, innocents are worth it, including the beastpeople.(atleast the show should've done more focus on rather than leave it as a bummer)

This is a great video apart from the stupid loud edits.

The video is fantastic, but I just can’t understand why did you feel the need to add those loud, annoying memes. Turned that awesome, final, fist fight into a joke, why?!

I wanted to do something more dramatic and I did at first, but I couldn’t get it to work with showing the clip as well as not seem cringe in the other way, so I chose to make it a fun bit
