Please remember only the Royal Guard are supposed to serve the King in ant culture. The rest are to continue serving the Queen so she can birth more royal guards & kings. This is also the source of friction between the two groups. They see each other instinctively as separate groups/species/nations.

Nen-Fact: Most Fans dont realize that Conjuration-Nen has a Replacement-Variant, as shown by Tsubone, Ikalgo and Greed Island. A Mechanic that i imagine to be quite popular as it's simple but potent: You give something up to get something new. You could even go to Extremes and conjure yourself into something like a Blade that cant levitate but needs to be used by Someone as a mere Blade, which would sacrifice everything about you temporarily (or even forever), even youre Autonomy, just to gain give youre Comrade Power. It’s basically Transifguration-Magic, the thing that Prof McGonagall teaches. Funny/Epic enough: this is the type that doesnt just allows you to summon Creatures like Werewolves but BECOME ONE. Wow. And of course all this can be used as Self-Cursing, which Conjuration is anyway best-suited for.

came here to comment exactly this. Peggy isn't denying ant nature when he rushes to aid the queen; quite the opposite. The show dramatizes the split pretty nicely with the Royal Guards and Meruem only speaking, versus the Queen only using telepathy. I guess you could argue that the squadron leaders are sort of in between, since they can do both. But in terms of their motivations, the split is basically "Those who want to become tyrants themselves" and "Those who want to keep serving the queen." Even the ones who stay in the palace with the King and the RG aren't really there to serve

I took it as symbolism. Peggy kindda looked like a priest (more so with him carrying the bible around in his past life). Also both him and the turtle were the calm, none threatening, advisers of the colony. You can say they had a more parental role compared to the rest. Killing someone so benign is shocking and makes his entrance unforgettable.

Although kite is different, he was “born” right after the king which raises the question of Kites current status. Also, we still know nothing about kite even though he was reborn into a chimera ant. We don’t know the species of ant she is born into and what role she would have served in the ant kingdom. I’d say kite has a similar status to the king? I mean the place of birth was the same as the king compared to the rest of the ants who hatched from eggs so 😓 either way Kite will probably play a huge role in the future, she has a lot of potential.

Not only was Peggy resourceful, but Meruem killing him had other repercussions. Colt would've never surrendered to the humans and given them information on how to fight or survive the Chimera Ants. Colt played a huge part in the palace invasion. And if it weren't for Colt Netero wouldn't have known how much more powerful the king was over him (he hadn't met him until that point, so he couldn't gage his power thro gyo without seeing the king first). Remember, Netero asked Colt how much more aura output does the King have over him. Colt suggest, "you probably won't even make it past his royal guards. That's when Netero when with the Poor Man Rose backup plan. Colt was the basically the interpreter for the hunters. And Melireon's actions were explained in the video.

I think this provides another layer of similarity between Meruem and Gon, similar to how they have similar poses, such as when they sit. if you were to assume the first ever moment that adult gon committed, and the first moment that meruem committed, they both made the decision that would result in defeat. Meruem who would abandon humanity initially to killing Peggy and Gon who would abandon his humanity and nen future to kill Pitou This is also another parallel bc Meruem who should have been destined to win from the start took his own victory away in the beginning and becomes more human as the arc progressed where as Gon who was the most destined to lose in the beginning (“I’m no strong enough”) took his own victory away at the end and become more monstrous as the arc progressed

One thing I disagree with is the idea that the Queen becomes useless once the King is born. That was true in this case, but only because of Meruem deciding he was done gestating and forcefully ripping his way out before he could be born normally. The way Chimera Ant reproduction was described, it was actually only natural for Peggy to prioritize the Queen, because normally the regular ants don't really have anything to do with the King. In a normal Chimera Ant colony, what happens is that the regular ants gather food for the Queen, and she then spawns first three Royal Guards who protect her, and then subsequently a King. Once the King is born, the Royal Guards follow and protect the King, who leaves the colony and seeks out a mate from a different species in order to mate with that mate and breed more Queens. The Queen on the other hand stays in her colony, still served by the regular ants, who gather food as she creates three new Royal Guards to protect the next King she births. So yeah, Peggy ignoring Meruem is normal Chimera Ant instincts, because as a regular ant Peggy normally has diddly d*ck to do with the King, the King is supposed to take his Royal Guard and screw off to go find himself some booty while the normal ants keep the Queen fed so she can birth the next King. In that way Meruem actually did embrace some human traits, namely the concept of what it means to be a King. He is to rule over all, and hence his word should be law. That's not an ant-trait, as an ant Meruem should have ignored the non-Royal Guards and headed out. It was the human concept of 'I am better, I am the King, I am the top of the hierarchy, so they all should obey me.' What was his ant-instincts was Meruem not considering what value Peggy might add to the colony, because Meruem doesn't care about the colony, it's not his colony, his job is to go out into the world, the colony ceased to be his basically the moment he's born, it's the Queen's. You might even argue that Meruem's attraction to Komugi might have been influenced by Meruem's ant-instinct to seek out a mate who has some attribute the King feels would benefit his offspring.

From what I recall in the story, the majority of the colony still follow the Queen after the King is born. The king's royal guard are completely loyal to the King, who now must go out into the world to find a mate, while the Queen goes on to lead the rest of the colony. That explains why the other ants were still so concerned about the Queen. The king's actions were outside what normally happens. Heck the first FIRST act the king took was being born prematurely. He turned out alright, but I can't help being curious what would have happened if the King had actually followed the Queen's advice and waiting a bit longer to hatch in the normal way. I doubt it'd make him immune to radiation or anything, but he might have been a bit stronger. That weird cut off pointy tail thing might not end so abruptly either.

The Chimera ants never could have concieved of nukes. Had Meruem retained Peggy, he would have read about them in East Gorteau and made it a point for his king to be aware of them. This would have lead to the logical conclusion that they can't just stay in one location like that have. Tehy'd need to spread throughout the known world and gain soldiers slowly. It would have left humans with fewer options.
