Have you experienced both hyperthyroid and hypothyroid symptoms as a result of your Hashimoto's? Let me know if this information helped you to better understand your health! -Dr. B

Yes, and still do at times, but especially as a child I would have bouts of agitations and hyperactivity and sleeplessness, and weight loss etc.. But then I would tank into hypothyroidism and slow way down and be tired all the time and was falsley diagnosed as bipolar. The hyperthyroidism mellowed out after puberty now mostly hypo except on rare occasions.

Hello, dr. Brad. Very calming informations in this video, thank you so much! I have hashimoto for more than 20 years with no treatment, only supervising some nodules. Now, for about two weeks, i am in something, i guess called tirotoxicosis ( i was to the hospital for big pulse, out of the blue) and i am so scared about the palpitations. I am with medication, but with ups and downs. Can you tell me, from your experience, how long it would take? I am scared about this spikes of my heart, and frustrated that i can t workout. In two weeks my life changed dramatically! I am on medication with Thyrosol and Propanorol, witch is so weird for a person who never had treatments in her life.

My brain is mush right now listening to this. I have never heard someone explain what i experience before now. Flip flopping or oscillating thyroid isnt well know i guess (thats what i have been calling it). Since 2013 I've had hyperthyroidism and then in 2016 Graves disease... then hypo later. It's all still a problem and I'm annoyed at my endo just slightly adjusting my levo for the last 2 years. Now I'm questioning if my "Graves disease" was ever that or just the beginning of Hashimotos... I'm having my personal team of smart people watch this and help me figure out what information to bring to my endocrinologist. Thank you for positing this.

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear that things have been such a challenge for you. Obviously I can't say for certain, but I've worked with a lot of people over the years who were initially diagnosed with Grave's, but they were actually having an acute Hashimoto's flare up. I think it's a great idea to have others watch this as well and come up with a plan together. Good luck with everything and please reach out if I can help with any other questions!!

15 years ago I started experiencing some symptoms and knowing nothing but critical trial and error I started figuring out what helped what didn't and then I kinda fixed it... temporarily. And then when similar but not quite the same symptoms came back it was 10x ...X times worse and I couldn't control the symptoms and neither could the prescription gold standard medications. So it was back to the drawing board for me... amazing how many doctors don't understand these things... and I found something, a couple natural substances that cured the symptoms again. So I was able to stop taking the prescription meds that were not fixing what they were supposed to WITH the benefit to the doctor and pharmacy of creating new issues requiring more medicine. Rephrase, the medicine wasn't helpful and it caused need for new medicines that also weren't helpful with the need for different medications for those symptoms... and so I went back to researching and found those couple foods that turned things around naturally so I was able to stop taking all of those medicines. But I forgot about all of those things because 10 years passed by without needing to do anything and then... and then not paying attention to everything that's been different this last year things got out of hand again with some all new symptoms. Once again..my learning curve is a little slow because finding doctors that understand or even want to treat is difficult in this area. The doctors I have gone to at two major hospital systems once again played the hand, we can't figure it out so you must be making it up! And once again I've realized there's a link between all of the symptoms from head to toe and everywhere in between and there's a reason the symptoms flip back and forth. So a pathologist I'm in touch with suggested.... and I looked that stuff up and there's just no way!!! He still thinks COVID vaccines are effective and that's been proven to be untrue. If anything they probably caused the chain reactions I've experienced over the last couple years. That ought to be clear as mud. HIPPA prevents me from sharing any more. Jk.

Thank you for your clear breakdown and explanation on this subject, I really appreciate you and your genuineness. I wish I could find a doctor like you. My doctor is really clueless on the thyroid. This happened to me. So my doctor dropped my Levothyroxine from 112 mcg to 75 mcg, at my request, for 1 month. My TSH went from 0.6 to 19 with my free T3 and T4 being within range. He then moved me up to 100 mcg. I don't know what to do.

Hi Ellie, you're welcome! I really hope it was helpful. That kind of swing in TSH sounds very much like what I was describing in this video. If we have thyroid antibodies and our immune system is unstable, then it's possible to have those large swings. If possible, I would get TPO antibodies and Tg antibodies checked, especially if they haven't been checked before. That will give you some better information on what is causing these sorts of changes. Let me know if this helps and if there's anything else I can answer! Wishing you the best with everything!

Hi Doc, Spoke on another comment section on your vids before... we had some good news for my wife. We took on your advice got some more testing done and the endo has begun a treatment plan with follow ups/monitoring for hypothyroidism! Unfortunately our GPs didn't know to connect the dots but we seem to be getting somewhere now. Many thanks for your content, teachings and responses! All the best - 🇬🇧 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I've had hashimottos for years now. Not very good at taking my meds. The past month I have taken the stupid meds. My TSH went from 61 to .08 in that time.. my t4 went from 7.1 and jumped to 28.5... my T3 has climbed a bit, but is still below the normal range at 6.4 (barely) from a 2.9. The heart palpations. The anxiety. The hands are shaking, I have the goiter, my eyes are experiencing the grainy and pressure feelings. I have never switched to graves before. I liked how i felt before the meds. I was on desicated thyroid meds for a few years, but eventually my t3 went climbed really high and my doc convinced me to take synthroid. Maybe I have experienced this before, and just stopped the meds because of the feelings.. changes in my body. This sucks. Is all I can say. I work with many doctors, as I have other autoimmune disorders as well. Endo, rheumatology.. optomologist. The works. I want my health back.

Thank you so much for this! I’m a 38 year old woman, 125lbs and was diagnosed in 2012 with hypothyroidism. I’ve been stable for years at 137mcg of levothyroxine but in the process of trying to get pregnant my lab results in April were a TSH of 4.06 and T4 of 1.10. I tested again yesterday (June) because we’re trying to find infertility issues that may be present. My result were a stark difference with a TSH of 0.221 and T4 free (direct) of 1.95. My T3 was tested at 3.2. Life has been a bit more stressful and I’ve included new supplements but have discontinued ashwagandha due to the levels I received yesterday. Why in the world are my levels this drastic as I’ve not been told I have Hashimoto’s disease and never (to my knowledge) had hyperthyroidism?

Dr. Bodle, Thank you for everything you do. I follow your channel regularly an I wish I had a doctor like you near me. I was diagnosed with Hashi 5 years ago and my TPOAb was 60. I tried being gluten free, loosing wait, intermittent fasting, etc. My recent blood work showed: TPOAb- 54, TSH -1.43; FT4 -1.2; FT3-2.8. Unfortunately, I am experiencing every symptom of Hashi and hypothyroidism which the worst is hair loss and braing fog. Doctors here will look only at TSH (sadly). Would I benefit form taking thyroid hormones? I never tried any meds. I am 45 y/o now with no other health conditions. I know the answer maybe not straightforward, but I will really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you, very much. Best wishes, Grace.

Hi Grace, thanks for reaching out and for your kind words! It means a lot to me :) I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well though! Here's the important thing to understand. Due to the presence of thyroid antibodies and the associated inflammation, your body is not utilizing thyroid hormone properly. It's not an issue of not having enough, which is the purpose of thyroid medication, essentially improving low levels when there's a deficiency. Thyroid medication does not do anything to help manage the autoimmune aspect of the condition. Instead, we need to look at ways to improve immune system function and reduce inflammation. That will allow your thyroid hormone to function more normally. To do that, you want to identify immune triggers, some examples are food reactions, blood sugar fluctuations, gut dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, infections, environmental toxins, nutrient deficiencies, emotional stress, etc. From there, you'll want to manage the main causes that are specific to you. Hope this helps a little bit! Let me know if you have any other questions. Also, this video might help explain what I'm talking about a little better... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ_QpoicadiDqqc

I’ve had hypo since 2017. This past week I did my labs for the 2nd time since having my third and my doc called and told me to stop all medication because my levels swung severely to hyper. My labs from 3 months ago were perfect and my medication was even adjusted to complement. If I’m having what you’re talking about, shouldn’t I keep my hypo medication going so that when the flare up is done I’m on track or do I have to stop? When would I know to start again?

I’ve had hashimotos for 12 years and I have a goiter with nodules. I’m really confused because my TSH is always low 0.94 last blood check t4 1.01 I have more symptoms of hyperthyroidism now .. heat makes me puffy, racing heart, night sweats, messed up periods,etc I’m really confused. I wonder if it’s my thyroid or if I’m in perimenopause 😂

Thank you for your explanation. When i first went in to the Dr. about 5 months ago with symptoms of Hyperthyroid my TSH was 0.005 My TPO was 64 my T3 and T4 were also high. My TSI was 11.4. I was told at the time that i have both Graves and Hashimotos. They are treating me with Methimazole. Is it possible that i just have Hashimotos and have just been having a bout with hyperthyroid? This is all so new to me and i don't understand how i could have both.
@DrBradBodle
@DrBradBodle Жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa, TPO antibodies can be positive with Hashimoto's or Grave's disease. The key is looking at the other associated markers. Because of the positive TSI this is Grave's. It can be a little confusing, but hopefully this helps. Let me know I'd I can clear anything else up for you!

My most recent results were tsh:1.22, free T3:3.2, free T4 0.72, haemoglobin: 12.2. My antibodies a few months ago were both under 100 which is vastly improved from a year ago. I’m on 120mg armor and still not feeling great. I’m functioning but depressed, fatigue, anxiety and lack of motivation. I’m due to have thyroid done again next week. (1 month from these results). I’m also 25 almost 26 weeks pregnant. She didn’t increase my dose after these results. I have no idea what’s going on with my body but miserable!!😢

How does one calculate BMR with Hashimotos
@DrBradBodle
@DrBradBodle Жыл бұрын
Hi Theo, calculating BMR can be tricky in general because it's all estimation. If that's something you want to do, I would use the normal calculators to give you a reference number. Then you can adjust your calories or exercise and track how the body responds. That will then help to give you a more specific number for what you average daily "burn" is. It's not a perfect science that's for sure and not one that I typically give to my patients because it can cause them to feel overwhelmed. Hope this helps a bit!

@@DrBradBodle In general just wondering if those with hypo tend to burn a certain % less than those with a healthy thyroid - since I, for example gain weight by being active, eating AIP, intermittent fasting, you name it.

Hi Megan, I know it can be confusing and that primarily comes from the fact that Hashimoto's can fluctuate. Depending on when you get your labs done and how active the autoimmunity is, it can make things look very different on the labs. No matter the situation, you'll want to identify things that are triggering your immune system and work to manage them, so your body can be more stable, heal, and support better metabolism. Hope this helps a little bit! Again, I know how hard it can be.
