Martina is the best singer I've heard live. It was a rainy show in a 30k capacity outdoor venue and only like 3 or 4 thousand people showed up, everyone got seats under the pavilion. I was working security and she just crushed it for 2 hours.

I heard Martina McBride about 15 years ago at a free concert she gave at Lone Star Park, a horse track in Grand Prairie Texas. May have been further back than that. She sounded wonderful live. Very nice lady, beautiful, and very very nice.

I love Martina. I went 600 miles to see her at the Ryman on Valentine's Day with the Nashville orchestra. As far as huge artists in one country and not another. It's America's SHAME that Slade never broke here. One of the best bands ever. Thankfully, I bought Slayed when it was released and was hooked for life.

I'm picky when it comes to Christmas music. I like Martina's album. I would suggest Tarja Turunen's "From Spirits and Ghosts (Score For A Dark Christmas)". As the name says, it has a darker mood and sound, but it's a more serious take on Christmas, and is the most pure album from a "what is Christmas?" perspective. And her voice is as good as it gets.

Here in the UK we don't fully appreciate just how wide and deep the pool of singers in each genre is in the USA. There are genres and su genres that hardly register here- the white Christian rock genre is MASSIVE but has zero traction in the UK. I remember my very first visit to Tower Records Store in Times Square in NYC and was overwhelmed by the vast number of discs on display and the sheer scope and scale of the departments. Each genre had a massive section- often a floor all to themselves with literally hundreds of artists recordings on display. The Gospel and Christian Rock sections were massive too as was Country and Jazz AND ALL THAT WAS BEFORE I REACHED SOUL/R&B, ROCK & POP! The UK just doesn't have the bandwidth (or cultural connection) for most of this stuff

I love the same powerhouse performances that everyone else does (Independence Day, A Broken Wing, Concrete Angel, etc.), but I also like when she shows a sense of humour and fun positivity (My Baby Loves Me, I Love You, When God-Fearin' Women Get the Blues), and her fire-em-up bangers (Reckless, Life #9, Ride). I recall Pat Benatar saying "I can't hit those notes!" or something to that affect in regards to what Martina McBride were able to hit. Two fabulous voices and icons was something wonderful to hear. Imagine my thrill when I saw the title and knew you were going to cover the song I requested! I'm so happy you found her voice as awesome as I did. I always suspected the change in key made it harder for her to hit the higher note, and now I find I was right, for the most part. I saw her live here in NY state several years ago, two nights in a row in different cities, and she did not sing "Where Would You Be" the second night, from what I've read due to the fact that she can (or will) only sing it when she's well-rested and is confident she can hit the notes. The playlist in the two shows were otherwise identical.

I saw a comment stating that Martina McBride got her start, after Pat Benatar "blew her away, on her own song". Yeah, uh, no. She got her start from Garth Brooks. And her "Independence Day" vocal? One of the best out there. Love to see you do an analysis of the chorus of that song. She has a great voice. Saw her live, years ago, when I still lived in CA. It was a smaller venue, and I was maybe 10 feet from her. I sat, stunned, listening to her hit these notes, LIVE. On independence day? There was almost NO difference on her vocals- other than the studio processing being absent. It was incredible. She very much has the power, not the vocals, but the power, of Ann Wilson of Heart. Was surprised you didn't know of her Fil, lol. Apparently, that ocean between us is a bit larger than we thought, after all.

I saw her bac in 2008..she had her kids with her..her husband is her recording guy..he owns their studio.. Before the concert we all saw her kids playing on the stage during the set upp!!! Besides seeing elvis in concert, that was a great show!! I think she is so much BETTER live!!!!!

A few years ago, I attended a Martina concert. She sang a rendition of "Help Me Make It Through the Night" that had total emotion. She reduced the band size for the performance to give it more intimacy. Her ability to make range jumps with absolute accuracy are legendary.

i love many kinds of music, but i have to say that there was some great country music in the 80s-90s, early 2000s. i also think that probably a lot of those are not well known in the UK, because of being country music. Diamond Rio, Black Hawk, Travis Tritt, The Judds( my favorite female mother daughter duo ever), Alabama, George Strait, Garth Brooks, Randy Travis,.....just to name a few.!

I don’t know how you missed her! She has such an excellent range, and really puts just the right emotion with the right phrase. She sings One Drink More so perfectly, and there are a couple of Tammy Wynette songs which are NOT easy to sing, she just belts them out like they are simple. And she is absolutely beautiful, if anything she is more beautiful now than twenty years ago. I think she didn’t 100% focus on her music when her children were growing up, so she might have had more acclaim than she does. You only have a few years w your kids though. I don’t know the full history, but her father was in Country music when she was growing up. I might come back and write another comment, I am trying to think of another female artist with an exceptional voice who just sort of had medium success, but just based on her voice it seems she should have gone further. With Martina, her recordings actually have a lot of range from old school country to almost pop. For a lot of artists I find it soulless and pathetic if they stray too far into pop, but her more pop songs have a lot of soul. I don’t know if she lends support off stage, but at least 2 songs were about abused children.
