Lower gearing puts more stress on the axle shafts and less on the rest of the drivetrain because it multiplies the torque at the ring and pinion. Torque is what kills drivetrain parts.

Recommend another way to remove the axle nut...if you are going to use the lugs, put the nuts back on and use the crow bar against those and not the threads, and also use the ground rather than someone else...cause if a slip under pressure, someone may get hurt. Another way, keep the caliper bracket on, use a screwdriver in the vent of the rotor. Another way, you need to have ujoints, put large screwdriver through yoke/ujoint and press against the knuckle. Don't forget a pipe to add additional torque to remove the axle nut. Recommend anyone with a Wrangler or 4x4 with unit bearings, to loosen, anti-seize, and retorque their bolts before too long and everything gets rust-welded in. You really don't need that threaded bolt to hold the rotor. Its for during assembly line so rotor doesn't fall off. As for the JL 1pc inner shaft, you can see where the seal is located in the middle of the shaft on the outside of the FAD location. That is where the axle seal is located, not at the diff, like that of the driver's side. YJs, late model Wagoneers, and early modle XJs (and many Dodge trucks) had the FAD/CAD as well. JL is the only one where I see a 1pc inner shaft keeps the axle seal in stock location. When switching to 1 pc inner shaft on the mentioned Jeep vehicles, one has to add an axle seal on the inside the of the diff.
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
Yea.. I hate the fad... it is a weak point in the axle plain and simple... FCA should have done locking hubs... at least on the rubicon models... when we break these housings... I guarantee... it will be at the fad... Appreciate the tips... I’ll keep em in mind 🙌

Well if ur not doing anything crazy. Those sport axles will hold up pretty well. If possible, I wouldn’t recommend putting money into those axles tht are under there. Re gearing them it self will run around $2000-$2500... lockers... will be another $2000ish... new shafts another $1000... by this point ur wasting a lot of money... if u look.... U can find rubicon take off axles for $3000ish.... tht come geared higher.... thicker shafts and already locked.. I’m not sure how long u been following, but we abused these sport axles quite a bit... we kinda regret dumping all the money we did into em... would have been much cheaper just jumping on the new axle boat right away... How are you guys liking the 4.56’s off-road? I’m going to need to re-gear soon and was debating between those and 4.88’s.
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
37s right?
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
JL LIFE OFFROAD yeah and I do a lot of freeway driving, so I’m kinda torn between the two.
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
I think 4.88 is going to be the better happy place for both on and off road drivability for the JL. I have definitely noticed a difference in performance going from 35s to 37s with the 4.56 gears. On the highway rpms are higher and I don’t see 8th gear as much and off road I have to preload much more than I used to.
@FROSTBITEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
JL LIFE OFFROAD good to know, we do have some steep rocky hill climbs, sounds like 4.88 is the ticket.

Is that axle from daily driving or bit off rough offroading ?
@JLLIFEOFFROAD3 жыл бұрын
Offroading is a regular thing for us. daily driving I doubt 37s would be an issue for a sport.

@Venom-kq5xz4 жыл бұрын
Ouch, Jeep plastic😓 think I’ve done that a couple times. Would some of the electrical cleaner help that? It’s nice to see how the sport axle was handling. Wonder why the driver side was more twisted though. That front upgrade seems like a good idea. I’m curious how my 4.88 gears will handle after they’re broke in on the trail. I don’t wheel as much as y’all do(jealous of y’all) but maybe that will prolong the axle till I can do my swap. Did y’all say prorock, or ultimate Dana 44? Awesome video once again from y’all!
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
Just being careful pulling them will be ur best option to avoid breaking.. but mistakes happen lol. As far as why one side was more twisted the. The other? Tht really just depends on the level of traction.... 🤷♂️ lol We love to host u if u ever make it out our way 🙌🙌🙌

Bro, you think 🤔 the passenger side was not as bad due to the fad system allowing play in the shaft? How did the fad collar fair in the abuse? Is it overly worn or twisted?
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
I think it was just lucky in the situations it was presented 😂 I hate the fad... it is ultimately the weak spot...
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
But to answer ur question... the fad collar. Looked fine... and was the least twisted side.... My biggest grip about the fad is how much weaker the housing is around it
@c130aviator4 жыл бұрын
Is it weak because we think of it that way? Or is it weak because you see rampant destruction? Not sure its getting a fair deal. Not talking about the occasional break. You have had your rolling and hard at that. I have the dana 44 m210 in my sport gladdy. The shafts are beefy.

I was about ready to ask about RCVs and you beat me to it. Do you have RCVs on Bromance? If it was a D44, would you have justified the extra 500$ for the RCV? Also, does the yukon front shaft upgrade the U-joint or just the fact that the shaft is chromo? I thought I found a dana front that had a bigger u-joint but I might not have been looking at the right thing.
@JLLIFEOFFROAD4 жыл бұрын
Yes.. I do have RCVs in bromance. If she had 44s we would have shelled out for rcvs for hers as well. I’m not to sure if the u joints are bigger.. I want to say it’s not... but currently not at home to check 😬😬😬
@DieselDodge4 жыл бұрын
The Dana Spicer front chromoly replacement axle shafts come with a bigger upgraded spicer 1410 series axle ujoint for JL and JT. Yukon just uses the stock 1350 series spicer ujoint. So with the Dana you get upgraded shaft material as well as a larger ujoint than stock.
