thank you God for waking me up another day. I was lost in the world full of the demonic spirit. Went to a church called Victory Outreach Carson , they sang this song and its like God helped me towards the altar for prayer. When I hear "sloppy wet kiss" I think of the way my 2 year old daughter kisses me, not the way my wife kisses me in the bedroom. You are taking something innocent and adulterating it. If this causes you to stumble that is unfortunate, but it means you need to check your heart and mind and ask for cleansing. There is nothing offensive in this original version of the song. As for others who have performed this song and changed the lyric, all it means is their record label felt it would be more marketable to the Christian market to have a less edgy and also less poetic lyric put in its place. I feel it does a disservice to the beauty and imagery of the song, and the author who God endowed with incredible talent to write such a beautiful song of worship, when we change the lyrics like you are referring to.

just read an article about this controversial line. many interpret that line differently from what you interpreted. majority of the people, when hear/read the words "sloppy wet kiss", would think that its A sloppy wet kiss and not some kind of kid kissing his parents. so putting it in a gospel song is slightly* inappropriate just because of that meaning. many people understand that line differently form you. and saying that "someone needs to check their heart and mind to be cleansed" just because of interpreting the song as a sloppy wet kiss is just wrong. and this isnt causing anyone to stumble, its just that it doesnt fit in a gospel song.

I’m sorry but this is THE BEST version of this song. I had it downloaded back when it first came out and it was on repeat. I then lost my MP3 player and forgot who the artist was. Then several artist came out with their own versions and I was so frustrated because I couldn’t remember where I had first heard it. It just wasn’t the same...and to be honest...I don’t even like the other versions.

Sorry that you're getting a response two years late. I pray this finds you well :). 1. Seeking God in good times: The scripture says that there are times to have joy and there are times to grieve. When you're going through a tough time, ask God for strength and guidance. When life is good, find time to rejoice in him. You could sing songs, read the scripture, fellowship, explore Gods creation, and my most effective, favorite, and easiest way to stay connected with God is through thanksgiving in prayer. A heart of gratitude always gives me positive outcomes no matter if life is good or bad. Everyday specifically pray and find a couple things that you're grateful for. It could be as big as "thank for my new house" and as small as "thank you that this car has cupholders." Everyone goes through it; searching for God only when you need him. But that's where we learn that God isn't only there when times are tough, but also when times are good. Philippians 4 : 8 "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." 2. Lacking desire to seek God: It's important to understand human nature. When Adam disobeyed in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:11), sin entered the world, and we all inherited that tendency. We're born wanting to do things our own way, not what's right. Paul talks about this in Romans 7:18, saying, "I want to do good, but I can't." So, naturally, we can't truly seek God because that's a good thing, and our sinful selves can't do good things (Isaiah 64:6). Why are people getting offended over one line? I almost certain that we've all said something worse than the "sloppy wet kiss" line. Actually I'm 100% sure we've all said worse thing than that line because the artist wrote it out to show his love and passion for God. Death is not easy. It hurts like freaking crazy and the only way that I can imagine John Mark McMillan seeing the loss of his friend to an accident is an incredibly sloppy wet kiss from God. Losing my dad to cancer and aspiration pneumonia was sloppy enough. Perfect imagery in my opinion.

This is why my Pastor explains it in this way.. paraphrasing here and may not have exact.. Basically, the word "Religion" refers to going to a building to pray, sing, and listen to a sermon, then go home. Just a constant.. sort of.. Ritualistic thing done because "I have to". This is why My Pastor says "It's not a religion, it's an experience." Alot of churches have "schedules" but we don't, because we let God have room to do what he wants, regardless of what we're doing. Countless times, our song service has been interrupted, and even the music stopped, because God had other plans.

Came here after I saw one of its cover. One commented that the original writer and singer was John Mark and incorrectly saying he died. Praise the Lord, he still lives and praising God, his friend was the one who died and probably motivated him to write this song of praise and worship. God bless everyone. May we all be reminded of the love of God the Father that He provided a Savior us. Indeed God loves us and never wishes anyone to perish. For some reason this is hitting me, especially after hearing the story of this song, that this could have been Job's song after God revealed himself...
The thing I hate about religion is how easily offended people get. So what, sloppy wet kiss is very intimate, I like it as many other people do. why is there the need to share negative opinions.

How He Loves Me was written by John Mark McMillan, a thirty-something singer-songwriter in the Christian music world and a repressed gay man. That's not me diagnosing him from afar, he talks about his "journey" from living as a gay man to living as a married straight man in a biography he wrote for his Christian ministry website. Sadly, he admits that he still fights the urge to return to his gay life, but so far he has not found the courage to find his way back to his true self. John Mark McMillan wrote that particular song in 2002, before he decided to live as a straight man, upon the death of his "best friend" Stephen, who died in an auto accident. Since McMillan says in his bio that he never had a platonic male friend before he decided to live as a straight man, it follows that McMillan wrote How He Loves Me to remember his lover. by JEAN ANN ESSELINK September 21, 2014 10:24 AM Song is EVEN more BEAUTIFUL now that you know the TRUE meaning behind the song!

I wonder what's the point of your coment, if it is positive that he is fighting his sins or if its a critical like he is doing something wrong...like none of us are not fighting against lies, and sin every single day. I think its so humble of him to open up his personal life to tell people that he has overcome sin, and now he is blessing a thousands of young man that are lost in this lies! Repressed is not the right word , but delivered free

Regarding marriage and children, I know you meant "to be enjoyed as a gift from God while IN the world", rather than "worldly" in a negative sense, right? +Mark Hopper many years ago he went to MorningStar which is now Heritage International Ministries in Fort Mill, SC. It was so moving the first time he sang this and it still is.

I love this song... I wish worship leaders (including Dave Crowder) wouldn't change the words to it. It sounds much better the way it was written.....

The only thing some worship leaders have changed is the like a sloppy wet kiss lyric to like an unforeseen kiss. It's not that drastic of a change. By using the sloppy wet kiss lyric, it sounds like something dogs do or teenagers with raging hormones, not God or Jesus. How is it any different than when people call God Yahweh, when that is not his name? Perhaps people should read more about Judaism. In the Jewish religion, God's name is YHWH or even using alternate, which is Adonai, which means Lord.
