I went to the emergency room like 3 times in the span of a month I thought i had a heart attack because I had all the symptoms and this cycle of me thinking I was gonna die kept on for a year until one day I gave my life completely to Christ and i felt peace and alive like never before and my relationship with Jesus literally saved me life

I can relate. At my most stressed I went to see someone and he gave me a prayer. I'm most not religious. But that prayer was so comforting I'd read it everyday and it just gave me a little hope. Hope enough to keep going.

This hit me so hard. You and I are so very different, yet our emotions, thoughts & behaviors are a mirror. I'm a retired Marine with multiple deployments and highly dysfunctional & traumatic childhood. In 2020, I had a series of 3 panic attacks over a 6 week period. Each time I went to the ER because I thought I was dying. Ever since, I've suffered severe and often debilitating health anxiety. 3. Years, now. It has stripped me down to rock bottom, leaving me feeling that I no longer even know who I am. I'm in this process, struggling on the daily. None of my old stand-bys from the "old me" work anymore for getting me out of this hole. The experiences you describe in this video are so valuable to the rest of us, for many reasons. In particular, you've shown us just HOW BADLY these things in our mind can affect our physical bodies. It's hard enough to believe for us who've struggled with this mental illness, so imagine all the more so, those who haven't. Loved ones feel helpless and perplexed as they listen to and observe us in this process. Thank you for this powerful disclosure.

My dad's a retired Marine and I've had these attacks you mentioned since I was 17, we moved a lot my whole life, I had them from then to now and they are terrifying. Heart racing, weird thoughts, can't calm down, burning allover just terrifying. Sorry you have them too, thank you for your service.

Don’t ever be sorry for crying, I cry all the time when I talk about my anxiety, but hearing all this is just unbelievable, health anxiety is a massive pain and feels like the end of the world and I hate it, and what’s worse for me is I refuse to see a Doctor whenever I feel something odd with my body and I suddenly feel so certain I’m dying and that’s that, our brain is a stronger force which terrifies us all and no matter how much reassurance we get we still don’t believe it because they don’t feel what we feel, sometimes I have break downs where I feel like I’m abusing my body or neglecting it and I start to feel so selfish and ashamed of myself and then the worry starts over again it’s such a vicious cycle but I know deep down we will get through this and we will look back on it and think wow! Look at all of us now, we’ve made it, now that’s what I call a true warrior

Can I say how refreshing it is to see some honesty. Keep being yourself and being honest about how you feel. It's a really important issue and as a transplant patient I had anxiety for years. To the point where I could not even get on a stage anymore. Just before Covid last year I finished therapy and in a much better place now. But I did not want to read and run so to speak. Keep healthy and keep the honesty. Huge to respect to you and your family.

Thank you so much for sharing your story, Cherelle. I am so sorry that you had to go through all of this but you are truly a warrior for getting through it and coming out strong. Thank you soooo much for being so open and honest with us all; it genuinely helps me so much with the healing process because it is so nice to know that somebody can relate. I really think people downplay how much suffering we can experience with health anxiety. My parents are always telling me that the symptoms are all in my head and that I will be okay as long as I tell myself I am okay. This is incredibly discouraging because while the symptoms are created due to our health anxiety, they are very much real and when others downplay it, it feels horrible. It is amazing that you have created this platform to educate others on health anxiety and show that it is possible to get better.

I've been on an SSRI for 4 weeks now and I feel like a completely different person. Like you, the scariest thing I can think of is going back to the person I was even just four weeks ago. Thank you for being a figure for health anxiety and support because I feel that one of the worst parts about health anxiety is how alone you feel with it. It's nice to know you're not the only one and to see that it's possible to make it to the other side.

This is so heartbreaking. You are so strong for getting through all of this. I have been diagnosed with severe hypochondria/health anxiety, so I know exactly where you're coming from. It really does throw everything up in the air, even more, when the doctors also think there's something wrong. With health anxiety, we always convince ourselves of certain illnesses, but it really is catastrophic when the doctors refer you, etc. I am currently going through this...I convinced myself that I had a lump in my breast. I went to the doctors and she said she couldn't feel any lumps at all. Yet, I have been referred to the breast clinic because I said the breast was slightly tender when she was pressing it. This is the first time I've got dark enough to have those kinds of thoughts. Health anxiety really is the worst thing ever. Your story is so inspiring. I have been watching your videos for a year now and they have been my saving grace. x

Cherelle, I have a similar story. The one common thread in our stories are that there were very real scary information relating to health given to both of us and hormones also played a role. In your case pregnancy in my case hysterectomy. Drs need to be more sensitive to when and what they tell patients as they do not know how they will process that information. In my case they found several tumors or masses in my liver. I automatically assumed it was liver cancer and I was dying straight away. After the follow up MRI they were determined to be benign hemangiomas and cysts. Again, both stories have real medical concerns. I’m sure if someone told me there was something in my brain that could kill me, I would have been a mess. Some ppl deal with these things calmly without worse case scenarios but some go straight to “I’m dying.” Once that health anxiety is triggered on, it is very difficult to overcome. I have had many relapses but try to be patient and loving with myself. I hope you do too. Happy Easter to you and your family 💓

I started having muscle twitching in my calves , which then crept up to my butt and now my right arm is twitching. Not one day goes without the twitching, it’s constant. I have no clinical weakness that I can tell but my limbs feel heavy. I’m terrified it’s ALS. I have health anxiety but it has been in remission for years. I kept my anxiety at bay by living healthily, exercising and eating well , meditating and relaxation exercises. This has just came out of nowhere. I’m getting some tests done and I’m hoping this can help my fears. The anxiety itself can cause symptoms as I know but I don’t know what’s real and what’s not. 😢

When you said, that what scares you more than cancer, illness and health anxiety was actually, how you felt bofore and where you were mentaly, it hit me like a truck. When i had my illness, trigeminal neuralgia, it was so bad, that I wanted to die, and there was not a really high chance, that I will ever recover, it was like staring death into the eyes, i have lost myself in the excruciating pain and was so scared for my life, that shit is the most scary thing I have ever experiencing and I doubt, that health anxiety could be scarier than that so....

I've been having health anxiety for a few years, increased by a stay in hospital for pneumonia and then worst during 2020 for obvious reasons. I had a pain behind my jaw that has lasted a year which i convinced myself was cancer. How slow the NHS were to do anything didn't help. Though my anxiety is through fear of dying so committing suicide would be the last thing I'd try.

Thank you Maygon! If I’m being totally honest, I got through the pregnancy because I told myself I had to live long enough to give birth to my baby. That was the only reason I didn’t do something stupid. I didn’t cope. Including eat, or sleep. I was hallucinating. I was very mentally unwell and was heavily medicated with Diazepam. My consultant wanted to section me. There was no getting through the pregnancy. It was more about survival. Perhaps I’ll do a video on it one day. 🤍
