Well, you're both not fully right. Yes, Germany planned Barbarossa for a while, and Stalin was trying to make Germany as happy as he could and play the good guy, but it's no secret that Stalin knew Russia's military prowess needed a couple of years to be fully prepared. He had plans to invade, but wanted to do it on his own terms, and that is later. You should also keep in mind the Molotov-Ribentropp pact which enabled Russia and Germany to destroy multiple countries in process that wanted nothing to do with it (and still consider it a dark period in their histories). The tide started to turn to Russia's favour only after some time when Russia got up to literally deploying rougly 7 million soldiers and when Lend-Lease came into full effect. Now, Hitler had a choice - wait a couple of years and lose the upper hand or punch first and possibly win. It's not like Hitler was that far away from a win if you'd be judging from a perspective of 1942

Dude. it can be just as easily said that the Japanese started WW2 in 1937 when they invaded China. The SS was the NSDAP's armed wing and, more importantly, Hitler's own bodyguards. They replaced the SA that was initially the NSDAP's paramilitary wing. The SS was formed out of some SA grunts initially that were assigned to protect Hitler and be under his control. The SA was loyal to the party, was meant to protect it and attack its enemies and had a designated leader by the party while the SS was meant to protect Hitler and eliminate HIS enemies and it was loyal to Hitler who was their leader. The Gestapo was a "secret police" of Nazi Germany. They were different even though they might have appeared similar. The Gestapo did more investigation and counterintelligence and the SS did more of the shooting and strong arming. The Ardennes was a brilliant move. Things didn't go that smooth but it worked. Hitler had his moments although there was a capable general that made the plan, Erich von Manstein.

I like How Money Works as it manages to untangle a lot of complicated relations that are counterintuitive to the way we think about money. 10/10. But this one I find it a little to biased for a history channel. Even though I appreciate the humor I'm one of those people that think history should be talked about in a dry, stick to the hard cold facts and hold judgement manner. Not with sarcasm and snarky remarks. It devalues the content and informations given. 5/10

Good video, but it's totally impossible to include everything in under 15 minutes. No mention of Hitler's F'd up childhood. Only cursory mention of Hitler's experiences in WW1 on the Western Front. The mustache marked A.H. as a veteran, that style was the end result of trimming a mustache to fit a gasmask properly. Rohm headed the SA, the extreme para-military left wing of the National Socialist party. The Reichswehr (German army) hated the guy. Purging Rohm and his faction bought the acceptance of the military "old guard". They'd hoped they could work with A.H. harnessing his influence and gain some control over him They thought wrong, his new bodyguard unit, the SS would eventually grow to become everything they hated about the SA and more.
