Had mine unhooked and 3-phase installed FOC. New 3-phase board installed and going to commit to a 3-phase Simpson & Partner from a local authorised supplier next week! Future proof where possible as vehicles change. Octopus installed next door - rough as and only really support the fugly Zappi unit. When I asked them about unlooping neighbours supply they didn’t have a scooby what I was talking about! Great video as always mate!

Whichever L1/L2 charger, I recommend adding a Charghanger to avoid the dangling cable.
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 5 ай бұрын
I think the charge hanger is only suitable in certain applications such as inside a garage as you have demonstrated, most clients in the uk would definitely not have this on their outside wall purely for aesthetic reasons, good idea though my friend 👍👍

Remember though the £1k+ install cost has to be recouped from the money saved from being on a cheap overnight tariff. If I owned an ev I would probably just use a granny charger but I don’t do a lot of miles.

Great Vid. But I'm doing everything Adam said I shouldn't do... going with energy supplier to do the install of my electric charger 😭 Glad to see my chosen charger listed as recommended though 🙂

is there a critical reason you mention consumer unit has to be a Metal one? basically upgrade and extra expense?
@sotaelectrical

I need to purchase a untethered one however the OMHE epod does the cable lock into the charger? People have stated that it doesnt? My other one i am looking at is Indra Smart PRO whats your opinion?
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 5 ай бұрын
I would go Indra, Ohme have a 4G sim in it and I bet you that in a few years people will have to pay a subscription for that!

PS your better getting the charger that’s compatible as owners of fords have found out when ford changed there API, Audi had the issue and I had the issue with Tesla when they changed theirs luckily that required a few more hoops to jump but still took a couple of weeks to resolve. I would have gone for a double stack board if I where the customer and just have all the boards in one
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 5 ай бұрын
That’s fair enough, there is a massive cost implication with combining the consumer units though, every circuit tested and inspected etc as I would be taking responsibility for it so there are reasons behind the madness 👍

I’ve contacted 4 local installers 2 didn’t respond 1 says I need to contact DNO 1st before he does site visit and 1 came back with £949 to supply and fit can do it Friday, doesn’t say which charger he’s going to supply or if it’s compatible with my car ( I think I’ll give that 1 a miss ) in comparison 3 of the nationals have ask about the car where I want the charger & said that they will contact the DNO for me

I just installed a Commando socket to charge my EV weekly, no issues so far and still get 7.5kw. probably not compliant but cost less than £150

No pen fault protection though by the sounds of it so you may have a cheap install but a potentially dangerous one, just so you know my friend 👍

Hey mate bonding not that straightforward though as a lot of water connections are plastic into the house, like mine but my Gas is also plastic which has allowed a true TT connection for island mode.

What i said was how do you notify SSEN? their site is hopeless, we end up printing it out and posting it to them. Also how do you know if the client is the OTHER end of the looped supply with only one service cable present? I still haven't met you at rexel yet, i'm the short, long haired fat git (don't get me confused with tye lol)
@sotaelectrical
@sotaelectrical 5 ай бұрын
I notify SSE by emailing them directly, it’s the easiest way. If I suspect the supply may be looped then I simply ask my customer if they have a good relationship with their neighbour, knock on the door and take a look. Il keep an eye out for you mate!!

A pity you found it necessary to sink using to click bate. Just to clarify, I’ve been driving EV’s for 5 years now and the “public charging hell” as you call it, is the diatribe of the Jeremy Clarkson club and doesn’t exist.
