People are turning into ruthless and cold blooded animals when pitted against each other. This was exactly what happened in China during the notorious 10 year "culture revolution" when the young red guards (with the firm believe to fight for all people's equality with any possible measures including force) completely destroyed China including the common moral standards. Personally witnessed such "bloody" events almost daily during that time with other horror stories circulating around. I guess, in essence, it is now Hong Kong's turn. I sincerely wish that it will not take another 10 years and Hong Kong people will not suffer that much. History sometimes repeats itself at another place, at another time, in another format (although seemingly for completely different cause).

Cheryl, the lady being interviewed described mainland immigrants and tourists to Hong Kong as ‘invaders’ who are reluctant to adopt their culture and dialect. This reflects a popular misguided believe amongst Hong Kongers. To begin with, the dialect that mainland Chinese speak Mandarin, IS the national dialect. Hong Kong IS part of China and Hong Kongers ARE Chinese. Despite many of them see themselves as quasi British and are therefore superior to mainlanders. They are not. Not unless and until the British government recognizes them as such. This superiority complex has been instilled over years of British occupation. The underlying social reason for these riots is simply a manifestation of Hong Kongers’ growing frustration of losing their misguided sense of self proclaimed superior identity over mainlanders. The extradition bill that triggered these protests that turned violent is simply a symptom and not the root cause. During British rule, Hong Kongers adopted British laws, practices, customs and culture; albeit under a certain amount of duress in the early days. Unfortunately, Hong Kongers today have been brain washed to the point where they have sadly forgotten their roots. Wake up, Hong Kongers. Be thankful to your fellow countrymen who did the heavy lifting and propelled the country into a world leading economic power house. Hong Kongers, adopt your new identity. Be proud of your heritage. Be proud to be part of an unprecedented success story. The world will respect you as a Chinese national, but not you as one who is wagging your tail in front of the Brits or the Americans.

"Us" and "they" are too clearly defined and too conveniently erected as the dualities in the HK Demonstrations. First, HK people are not against the HK Govt. nor are they totally anti-democracy. That term in itself is value-laden. Slogans of democracy and liberty have been used frequently to emasculate countries after countries and turned into "failed states" or utter wastelands in order that the countries' resources like oil, minerals, gold and diamond ores are monopolised and controlled by foreign corporations for their private profits and private interests that negate national public interests. Protests for Democracy in HK is just another empty slogan and a guise to destabilise and destroy HK as an international banking and financial hub in the region. To embarrass China as the credible competitor for world hegemon, at her very own doorstep is to destroy Hong Kong. They know quite well that HK is not an autonomous country and that with China keenly observing the demonstrations, a "regime change" like it happens to other countries, is not going to happen and cannot happen. This is reinforced by history that HK was, is and will be part of China, despite that fact that the Brits colonised HK for 155 years as the payment of the the spoil of war, the infamous immoral Opium Wars. The only thing that can happen is to cut Hong Kong up with a thousand cuts in the form of lawlessness, instability, recession, and loss of credibility. This the protesters with the financial, logistics, and political intervention of the US Govt. The lack of affordable housing, the income disparities, the direction of the economic systems are very much the result of "laissez faire capitalism" which was and still is the only mainstay in the business world in HK. This works well if there is a fair competition within the marker. And when a handful of oligarchs are in control,the market becomes tyrannical and predatory. With that being the modus operandi, this oppressive legacy form colonialism, and the basic framework within which the financial, political, economic and government policies are directed. So the "dualism" so much propagated by the western media makes the argument of dielectrics useless and irrelevant. People can be for democracy but not the predatory form as practices in the US. People can support the protesters in terms of their brainwashed ideology but condemn them for their blatant psychopathic violence and wilful destruction of properties, their lawlessness and their strong arm mafioso tactics.

Since Hong Kong returned to Cheena in 1997, millions of mainland Cheenese people have moved to Hong Kong to live and work, which has severely caused more job and housing crises in Hong Kong in addition to mainland Cheena depriving Hongkongers of their democracy and freedom. In contrast to Hongkongers, who are quite civilized, mainland Cheenese people are totally uncivilized peeing and defecating directly on the street. Hongkongers said they are not Cheenese, they are Hongkongers. For almost 200 years, Hong Kong has never been nor ever will be part of mainland Cheena. Hong Kong is forever unrest.

HK is ranked #3 in Human Freedom Index, #13 in Corruption Index, and #6 in UN Human Development Index (all ahead of US). It's true that there are lots of economical inequality, but how violence will help?
@hauuau5 жыл бұрын
The Hong Kong protests are not about inequality per se. They are about growing political, economical, and cultural influence of the CCP. All of those ratings and metrics will plunge into abyss if that growth of influence is not stopped as soon as possible. Economical inequality will increase a lot with that growing influence too. That's why protesters feel that violence is justified. Their only winning strategy is to cause enough damage to get concessions for more political autonomy from the mainland. Their next best option is to provoke violent crackdown by the mainland and cause tremendous long-term damage to the mainland economy and international image which might get the CCP just a tad bit closer to a political collapse. Both those strategies inevitably involve escalation of violence.

Most chinese believe these anti-chinese media are sponsored by either CIA or Taiwan, of course, again a subjective opinion. If everyone believe in their own subjective opinion, there is never an end of discussion. Be objective, speak based on fact of verifiable truth, is the way to end argument. If I receive any further subjective opinion, no waste of my time will be done.
@roy_yyyy5 жыл бұрын
@Bhum Brahmavira The extradition bill is just an excuse of the far leftest, I feel. There has been few previous street demonstrations there before this. As far as China did not interfere with HK's system, with all colonialism left un-touched, the young generation in HK was educated to hate China, even though China did not interfere with their life. So, the street demonstration will break out, sooner or later. Almost all the media there hate China, while most regular people live in a miserable situation, with high house or rent price, while relatively low income. HK used to be an unique port for China, 1+ billion people country. You can image how easy to profit as the only trade port of China. That glorious time is gone. HK did not have an alternative way to make up the loss from the profitable port trade business. So, the life started to go south. With the far leftest's sponsorship and CIA's sponsorship, it is extremely easy to push youth onto street. They all finger point to China, while actually the extradition has nothing to do with their lost glorious time. Without extradition bill, far leftest could easily find another excuse.

Little is mentioned about run-away movement, rioting and destructions of properties, hardships of others caused. The lady in the interview was complaining about the cultural issue and freedom, e.g. learning & mainlanders speaking Mandarin instead of Cantonese, but she has no problem with speaking English in HK !!! Cantonese is just one of the many Chinese dialects, and having a unified spoken language for such a diverse China surely can be such a bad thing !! China has been short sighted seeking reunification with since like forever. Reunification with those who obviously want nothing to do with China should not be an issue for Beijing an yet it is. An to send a million into HK to destabilize is nothing short of being evil, passive aggressive and plain dumb.
