I was working with my crew in a state park. There was line of pines that the park wanted low-hanging branches removed. I was at the end of the line of trees when I looked back and saw that all the trees had been trimmed perfectly, except one, which had one long branch hanging low. I walked back and asked why. The gal answered, “Look!” I looked. Didn’t see anything that could be a reason for what seemed like sloppy work. “Look!” She said again, pointing closer. There it was, a tiny hummingbird’s nest built on top of that hanging branch, with two tiny eggs inside. Such a miracle, really.

Hummingbirds are spectacular, with character far out weighing their size. I love patiently befriending them enough to feed from a nectar feeder in my hand. Occasionally I have been lucky enough for one to perch on my hand while feeding! The thing I find fascinating about that is that their itty bitty tiny feet are noticeably warm on my hand!!

I was lucky enough to find a nest during a walk on our property! Nobody was home but still a thrill to see the tiny nest!!

We found a Ruby Throat's nest in our garden when I was a child. I remember I was surprised how it was only about the size of a golf ball. Their wings are quite loud even in normal flight; I got a shock once on the porch when one flew by because it sounded like some giant bee!

🎉My oldest, who's always been just a leetle but dingy, was helping me put out a yard sale when she exclaimed, " Wow! Mom! Look what s big ole bug!!" to which I felt out laughing!! Twas a fat hummingbird flitting in & out on the frt porch... so beautiful!! And, of course, a teachable moment.

Why does he give them so many diseases!

@@ExistenceUniversity Because Eve fell for satan's sweet talk about the fruit of the tree of knowledge, then she put her perfume on that sweet talk and seduced Adam to join her for a nibble and just like that, they defied God's one and only rule and out of the garden they were sent packing. Now they, and the entire world they now live in, were no longer immortal and impervious. Now, they have to deal with satan and his minions all by themselves. Christ showed up later and showed us how to make up for it, how to be in fact good, and we've been trying to emulate him ever since and boy do we suck at it. Have a nice day.

@uppityglivestockian Even the animals without free will get diseases because an all knowing being created humans that he knew would eat the fruit because they didn't know the difference between right and wrong because they didn't eat the fruit yet? Wow! So magical
@uppityglivestockian6 ай бұрын
@@ExistenceUniversity Dude, God gave them a rule. Just one. Don't eat that fruit. They had one job: obey the rule. The rule was the guide for them to know what was right and what was wrong. But no. Eve allowed herself to listen to a stranger telling her to break the rule and she forgot it was her only job. And Adam, being partial to Eve, he was gonna have to live with her for eternity, so, said 'ok, just this once'. Animals have free will and agency. What are you talking about? Ya know, the Bible is not just a repository of the best operating manual for humankind, it's chock full of history featuring humans known and written about in other documentation of the subsequent times. And if you're mad at it without having read it, well then you're the close-minded bigot you accuse others of being. Relax, geez.
@ExistenceUniversity6 ай бұрын
@uppityglivestockian Why do animals suffer though? And how can Eve and Adam know it's bad to break the rules before eating the fruit? The fruit is the knowledge of good and bad. Before eating the fruit, you literally cannot know that breaking God's rules are bad because what even is bad? See why God is evil and does not even make sense?

Thank you for the wonderful information on hummingbirds and their nests. Just my curiosity: and please, please don't be offended... it's anthropology: You are a nice looking gentleman with well-groomed hair and nice glasses. Your video is well lit. Where did you find that shirt... and could you not at least iron it? I am italian and this interests me. We are berated if we leave the house with a stain on our clothing or a creased collar. If the answer is that it doesn't matter to you, great... you are much farther on the path of freedom than I... but, then... I look at the hummingbirds and the lengths they go to to be beautiful and attractive and I think, maybe it's part of nature to appreciate an ironed shirt that fits one. Best regards.
