Soulmates come in different sizes and shapes. They will always find you. When I lost my cousin in a car crash in 2000, I found Kasek, my German Shepherd. When he passed in 2012, my son was born 4 months later. Keep them close. Love the video.

I'm Jamaican and Hummingbird's are our national animal. At my house they were completely tame and would fly all around me and my siblings in the morning. My dad believed it was our ancestors coming to greet us before school. My dad is older now, so I like to think he'll become one of my hummingbird's one day.

Thing about hummingbirds is that they never forget the source of nectar when they migrate. I remember a story of an old man who had a nectar feeder in his porch for over 20 years, and always saw the same hummingbirds come to feed.

This couple had a trailer a couple minute walk away from our cabin and the hummers used to zoom back and forth from our feeder to theirs for years. They both eventually passed but it was many years that the birds still zoomed back over there to check for the feeder that was no longer there…I’d say maybe ten years later or so was the last time there was one zooming over to check it out 💞

In Texas we had crowds of humming birds at a feeder just outside the kitchen window and they could empty a feeder in a day. I was making dinner and heard a squeaking noise - when I glanced up, there was a hummingbird, perched on the empty feeder - looking at me, directly, through that window - hollering to be fed. :D He *knew* who filled that feeder. :D

How lovely. When I was a boy I rescued a bird who had fallen from his/her nest. I 'kept' him in our aviary until he was well. He didn't want to leave me, and would fly through the window into my bedroom and sit on the end on the bed. He would also sit on my shoulder and arm in the garden. One day he flew away and never came back. I hoped he was happy and prayed he was well. True story.

I agree. And to befriend a pig, pigs are very friendly and affectionate as long as you don't take their trust. What's so sad is how easy it is to refrain from taking it yet how horribly pigs are treated on factory farms and how terrified they become of people as a result, these are the same animals which will become so kind and friendly to you if you do the one very simple thing of not harming them. It's therefore very easy to not make pigs frightened of you and to make them love you, just don't harm them. That's what makes it so sad, how many people can't refrain from doing that to an animal so friendly and affectionate and asks for so little

They get pretty bold once they feel safe, and a few had no issue with flying into the apt to complain (loudly) if the feeders ran dry. I wish I had video of the day that one decided the dry feeders were my pit bull Nala's fault. If you have never seen a 65lb pit bull run away from an angry hummer and hide under the bed, it's quite a sight! Took me almost half an hour to stop laughing and get my dog out from under the bed!

On the day we buried my mother's ashes, a hummingbird visited my mother's patio lanterns and hovered over our heads for quite some time (she would have liked that). Normally there aren't too many birds around, as we live near an airbase where the jets scare most wildlife away with the noise of their powerful engines. I felt it was my mother's spirit come to greet us from beyond the grave. I know it sounds strange, but we immediately felt her presence and couldn't hold back the tears. I miss you, mom.

She believes it was a sign for him. Jim

When my aunt died, my cousin and I were sitting at stairs next to a train station. A dove came up and sat down by our side, very close and puffed up. It stayed with us the whole time we were sitting there and also blinked like cats do, when they trust you. It was like a message that everything will be okay. I never saw a dove do this bevore. Well, statistically speaking, you are wrong. I mean yeah even a cockroach can be your pet and love you, but how many will you feed, and take care of, but still will just go away? It's really rare what did happen to that man and it feels so special just because of that. Feed and pet a cat, dog, horse, pig, goat, sheep etc, and you will make a friend 90% in less than a week. Feed anything else for months and there is a small chance to succeed. Those animals are used to live with people around them. It's way easier to win their trust. With anything else, you still have a chance, but it's harder and it may never happen.

So basically Hector gets the equivalent of DoorDash delivery every day. He's got it made. We've never tried hand feeding but we have several feeders and about 6 birds living here and growing. They're very comfortable around us now. We put a bird bath underneath the feeder, it didn't get much action until we added tall lattice and vine plants on each side so the predatory birds can't get the little birds and now there is constant activity. The hummingbirds even started using the bird bath too. We didn't even know they drank water until we saw them. A grey squirrel even started climbing up and drinking from the bird bath every day too. Super fun watching the busy little world going on right in your backyard, you just have to stop and look. 👍👌✌

@Johnny Silverman But pigs, cows, and chickens won't rip you to shreds. Also, I'd add that love and respect doesn't always have to mean cuddling up to an animal. Perhaps it could mean that we allow other creatures the space to live their own lives, without human interference. Obviously, domesticated animals like pigs, cows and chickens would have to live their lives out on sanctuaries created by humans, but it's better than a short, miserable existence in a factory farm.

@@blackbeard108th5 Hummingbirds have a crazy intense metabolism. They eat till full eight times an hour. They don't even sleep- they enter what's called Torpor which is more akin to hibernation. Sleep would literally burn up too much energy and they'd starve over night. They also have really good memories and can be fiercely territorial, depending on how available food is. In fact, Aztecs believed that their warriors reincarnated as hummingbirds because of how fierce they could be. So bek's interpretation is probably fairly close to the mark.
