In this video, I show you how I apply the tretinoin and simplify my routine to reduce dryness and irritation. I recently started using tretinoin after debating on it for a few months. Of course, you have to get it prescribed in the United States so definitely visit a dermatologist or your primary healthcare provider.
I spend a lot of time researching how to decrease my hormonal acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. I am excited to document my tretinoin journey with no filters or any editing. I will also be uploading a quick video on my simple and easy morning skincare routine.

@@Thedollrii I'm glad it's working for you! Did you start with .05% or did you start with a lower percentage? My skin is oily so I think that may help some with not being irritated, but I think applying a barrier and the healing ointment on top helps a lot too.

Teryn Yeah i started on 0.05 I find using a barrier cream really helps aswell. Have you ever thought about introducing some serums into your routine alongside with the Tretinoin 😋

@@Thedollrii I am! I wanted to give the Tretinoin a month or so just so I could see the progress and I’m seeing great results so far. I’m going to introduce a serum or two back into my routine and upload an updated routine. 🤗 I’m glad creating the barrier worked for you as well! I think that’s why I had very minimal irritation.

I use tretinoin 0.05 along with spironolactone 100mg. You should ask your dermatologist about Spiro, it's worked wonders for me!

@@TerynAParker i do quite similar but i dont' use petroleum jelly, i just put on one layer of cerave lotion instead. Works well for me too , no dryness or redness at all.

Hey! You’re welcome! ☺️ It depends! I wanted the smoothest routine possible to not damage my skin barrier. You can use a different active in your morning routine, but double check with a professional. Moisturizing and hydrating serums can be useful in the same routine as tretinoin.

Alright I'm a guy and my skin care routine is much more simple, I have a Cleanser which I will use in the morning and at night, I also have a BHA but I'm starting Tretinoin so I guess their is no need for that Aswell? This is my Routine I Cleanse in the morning then I moisturizer, after I add my Sunscreen. Later that day before bed, I cleanse my face again to remove dirt and suncreen I put on that day, then I moisturize my face, after I add the Tretinoin and head to bed, is this fine? Do I really need to add more Moisturizer after applying Tretinoin? I see everyone using Toners, Vitamin C serums, is it really necessary?

Hi! A simple yet effective routine is a great routine in my opinion. I would just strictly use tretinoin and not any extra exfoliants. In this video, I added extra moisture because I just started using tretinoin and it also happened to be the coldest and driest time of the year. Your routine is fine in my opinion. My updated routines I posted later on are actually very similar to your routines. I thought about adding serums back in, but I haven’t because my skin has been improving without it. The one I do is hyaluronic acid to make sure my barrier is intact. Your routine sounds great and I hope this helps!

No, I don’t think that’s normal. Make sure you are applying it to completely dry skin.

That has happened to me in the beginning but I noticed it stopped when I switch to a gentle facial cleanser and not being to aggressive with my skin right before applying tretinoin. I used Cervae healing ointment or even Vaseline for a day or two to help calm down the irritation.

A gentle cleanser helps so much! Your skin barrier has got to be in tact before starting tretinoin.

Potentially. A lot of people use it for anti-aging and for smooth skin so if you don’t breakout currently, you probably won’t or just have a minor breakouts. It makes your skin cells turnover at a quicker rate therefore bringing up whatever is underneath the surface. You may have some minor flakiness, but I think you’ll be fine!

Thank you! Aside from purging, I haven’t seen any side effects. I think the barrier and healing ointment helped me to not have a lot of dryness and irritation.

Kinda funny question... What if you work at night and sleeps in the morning? Can I use tretinoin at morning when I sleep? There'll be no sunlight getting through my bedroom.

It’s a great question because everyone doesn’t have the same work schedule! I would think it’s okay as long as you wear sunscreen if you do leave the house during the day or sit near windows. Other than that, you should be good! 👍🏾

​@@TerynAParker The reason you can't use Tretinoin during the day is actually not because of sun sensitivity! That will happen regardless of when you use tretinoin. You can't use it during the day because it disintegrates in daylight and essentially doesn't work on the skin if exposed to daylight. That's why they put it in a totally opaque tube.

Retinoids will cause your skin to become more sensitive to the sun which is what I think is what we were focusing on originally in this thread. The tube is made out of aluminum, I believe, similar to other products I have like Faded.
