Had a pretty serious incident this week on my Ferrari 308, which ended in a disaster entirely of my own making for the poor InfluEnzo. Also reporting back on progress on the exhaust and I change over that terrible ball joint.
I have tried to limit adverts on this video. Should just be one at the start and one in the middle.. please let me know if this works better!

Sorry to hear that Danyella. I've been on a bad run since 2014 - my Mum dying, some marital problems, a major termite infestation, car problems, medical problems with both kids, a huge drop in income since the pound collapsed after the 2016 Brexit vote, etc etc. I thought this year would be better, but Covid has killed the economy and the pound is still very weak (I live abroad so I am very susceptible to exchange rates). Maybe next year will be better? It has got me down at times, but never give up. Remember it's not just you. Everyone goes through rough patches and everything goes in cycles. I absolutely DO feel your pain, brother. I did this to one of my cars in about 1998. I was jacking my treasured 9 year old 1989 Acura Legend Coupe up using a hydraulic floor jack which I had under the standard Honda central jacking point below the engine. I had good quality wheel stops fore and aft on both rear wheels, and I think I had it in gear with the parking brake on. While I was in the process of jacking it up with a very small size hydraulic jack on a mildly inclined driveway at a mild (15 to 30 degree) angle to the slope, the car began to suddenly slide sideways, causing the jack to turn onto its side, jamming into my engine oil pan, causing a massive dent in that pan. I was majorly bummed out! This dent impinged the oil pickup and the crankshaft. So, yes, I DO feel your pain! On the bright side, this sentinel event will cause you to be hyper careful whenever using jacks, jackstands or car lifts for the rest of your life. This future extra care may prevent you from severely injuring yourself. Bless you brother. It will be all right.

Those small trolley jacks need to have the castor wheels pointing fore/aft. If you put the jack in and swing it sideways, the castors are pointing side to side and often dont realign as the car lifts, leaving the jack rooted to the spot.

Shame about the damage from the jack but it looks easily repairable and you'll probably get chance to have a few other bits tidied up while it's at the body shop so no bad thing. On the plus side you've alerted me to the dangers of trolley jacks which I was blissfully unaware of until now, so thanks for that!!! Love the stickers and lack of spotlights, it's got to be the best looking car ever. Surprised the ball joints didn't make a bigger difference, maybe it will all come together if you get the alignment done after you replace the other bushes, it's amazing how much the tracking can affect the feel of a car.

The two floor jack brands I’ve seen recommended the most here in Germany are Bahco and Rodcraft-no idea if those are available in Britain tho. Myself, I’ve got a 2.5t low access Bahco, it’s a 45kg monster made out of 8mm steel plates, I think it would survive a nuclear war. But as it’s such a hassle to move around if you don’t have a garage to put both your tools and car in, I recently added a 1.3t aluminium Rodcraft jack that weighs just 10.5kg. It looks to be very good quality too and is more than capable of lifting my Miata, but the Bahco is still in another class simply for its brutal heft. If push comes to shove, I’d trust it more than the small Rodcraft, but I bet the bigger Rodcraft jacks are just as solid as the Bahco ones, judging by the quality of the small jack.

Oh, wow. That's a nightmare. I did something similar on an Miata, and I still yell at myself for it. I can't imagine doing it to a Ferrari. Hopefully you can get it fixed up fairly easily and cheaply.

I feel your pain: great attitude in sharing the story though. Remember it could have been so much worse. Years ago I jacked up my car on my dads newly (cheaply) resurfaced drive. Finished what I was doing and couldn't get out - the jack and axle stands has sunk into the tarmac....nobody else at home, thought I was going to be slowly juiced until luckily my dad came back. In my home town not long back, a poor guy drove his car up onto the kerb to get underneath to look for a suspension knock, as he vigorously bounced the car he managed to bounce it off the kerb and died after his head was crushed. I am always extremely nervous about getting under cars but if it does go wrong and only the car is damaged try and look upon it as a win!! Best of luck with sorting it and bad luck on the speeding: we have all had days like that.

Oh mate, that was painful to hear about and i don't even own the car!! I feel your pain and that sick feeling you must have initially felt. On the plus side, you were not underneath it with no wheel on, when it came off the jack!!!!! Definite thumbs up for the shield stickers and the fog light delete, not sure about the front number plate? i'm trying a spell of front number plate delete on my Porsche 930 and not had my collar felt yet (fingers crossed). The Fezza will soon be back to her best, so keep plugging away and sharing the awesome content.

The perils of working on the garage floor with jacks - good job you weren’t underneath it! Definitely looks better minus the spots and I like the Ferrari badges.

Waaay back in the 1970's, I'd resprayed the bonnet of my Triumph Spitfire and amazingly, everything had gone well. There was now a beautiful bright red gleaming paint job on that bonnet without even a hint of dust to ruin it. I celebrated with a nice cup of tea, put the mug of tea to one side and promptly rested one hand on the bonnet (as I had done a zillion times before) and instantly stuck to the tacky paintwork. Of course as I pulled away, the paintwork was absolutely ruined! It broke my heart and the next day I had to do the whole respray job all over again. I never managed to get it anywhere near as perfect as it had been for just a few special minutes the day before. So I really understand your pain!

The jack incident was as a valuable caution of safety issues to consider. Relieved that it only scratched some non-essential sheet metal. Aviation has discovered the value of openness about treating even minor incidents as warnings about potential disasters, so kudos for featuring it. Maybe someone watching this will use a jack stand when they might not otherwise have. If things go too well for too long, when they don't they do so horribly. The odd scare keeps you from complacency.

You can get pretty cheap “ball joint separator” tools which take the potential misery out of the job. The one I have uses a threaded nut to apply pressure to a lever arm which pushes the threaded part of the ball joint back out of the suspension arm. You can also get tools which look like a wedged fork which you hammer in to the space between the ball fitting and the suspension arm but that’s probably asking for trouble ! Bad luck with the jack, but at least it’s just metal rather than skin and bone..

JEEZ...Ouch, been there done that, jacking up the front of my car to swing it round in the garage and the jack slipped out from under the crossmember... Broke the casing on the steering rack, and damaged the bottom of the rad.... Thing to remember is that "The man that never made a mistake..never made ANYTHING." The prancing horse logos are spot on.

Stickers look alright 👍 Change those bushings ASAP it’s dangerous to drive like this 😱 As for the panel dent - you now have a chance to go back to original color as you need to paint whole side of the car to have it looking decent.

There are grooved jack pads I’ve purchased made of rubber that fit specific cars. I also position a jack stand in case the jack fails which has happened to me once. Without the jack stand I would have damaged my brake rotor.

Tough luck Jack, but hopefully it'll be a cloud with a silver lining, somewhere along the line, & main thing is you're safe! Your speedo is still broken, as you werent doing the speeds it appeared you might be.. Without lights & without stickers is better, gives the car cleaner lines, 'less is more' & all that. Wishing you all the best getting things sorted.

yes its good to have a proper wide, low profile jack and also use a jackpad. These narrow ones I often find that they move around as you jack and then the car might slip. If one wants to be paranoid, it might also be good to put a stand under the suspension where it can handle weight and slightly lower the car onto that, just as a precaution.

I have a friend who did the same thing at the rear of his Pantera in the center. The Jack was fully raised when it fell off, destroying the rear panel and the air conditioning condenser too. Realize that it’s nearly impossible to guess at the proper location of the balljoint in the A-arm. The holes are slotted to allow in-and-out adjustment to dial in the camber setting. You may find the car drives perfectly yet is chowing on the front tire. It needs a proper wheel alignment unless you view the current tires as disposable. It will need alignment after the fitment of the new A-arm bushings, or any work done to the steering. So it’s best to tackle all those jobs together. In the USA it’s possible to pay more for a ‘lifetime alignment’ which entitles you to return at any time to have subsequent alignment jobs done for free. I’ve capitalized upon that mightily. Maybe something to consider if you can find it over there? Good luck!

Really feel for you and so gracious to share. Fortunately it can easily be fixed though. Best to book in ASAP then it will be out of your mind. The benefit of the 308/Ferrari’s is the mid black stage line so no worries on blending the paint. Speak to Roger at Kent High Performance in Kent. He's restored two 308s for me and they know these cars inside out. Def good to get rid of the lights (they will fetch a few quid on the well know auction site - especially the covers which il help pay for the body repairs !). Better without the stickers I think. What tyres are you running? Handling may be helped by some Pirelli P7s?...wishing you better luck. Don’t worry about the ads they are more justified than ever now!! She still looks beautiful
