Hey, Silver Wolves! Thanks for tuning in to another episode of my channel. In this video, I’m going to show you a clever trick that I learned from my grandfather to open tight jars with arthritic hands. As you know, arthritis is a common problem for us Silver Wolves, and it can really limit our enjoyment of the outdoors. But don’t worry, there’s a solution! All you need is a piece of bank line1, which is a strong and versatile nylon cord that you can use for many purposes. By making a loop of bank line around the jar lid, you can create extra leverage and friction to twist it open with ease. Trust me, this works like magic! I hope you find this trick useful and it makes your life easier. Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe for more tips and tricks. Until next time, Silver Wolves, stay safe and happy!
1: Bank line is a black nylon cord that is resistant to UV rays, strong, and easy to tie. It can replace paracord for lightweight tasks around the house or for bushcraft.

For those thin lid jar tops - wrap a 'grip grabber' rubberized pad over the lid and then use Blackie's string wrench around the pad on the lids edge. You could also make a loop out of a 1/2" strap material and use a stick to make a strap wrench.

You know, if a guy has a knife with lanyard that is long enough (or whatever they call that string on the butt of a knife that some people put around their wrist), he might have a ready made wrench for that purpose. I am going to have to remember this trick.

I just use a bandana, fold up to a diagonal and twizzle to gather the rest up. Loop around your jar/oil filter/bottle top, twist to tension as you did and done. *for locking lids hold the bottle between knees so as you can push down on the lid as you turn the lockrag.🤘😀

I'm battling arthritis in my hands, what I do is have a foot long piece of exercise strap in my gear. You don't need much hand strength or pressure . Your idea is a very good one, I'll have to remember this.

Yet another great tip. I recently injured my dominant hand wrist. This is the ticket. My wife has difficulty opening jars occasionally and this will help her too.

in the kitchen for screw top jars with those skinny little lids take the jar in your weak hand angle it slightly so you can see the little pips on the rim of the lid that actually engage the threads in your strong hand take a blunt nosed table knife carefully push the tip under the rim right next to the pip slowly and steadily exert a twisting motion toward the pip hopefully you will hear a soft pop sometimes even a little hiss set it down and proceed normally, so far, it has not failed me even on a couple of catering sized jars for the canteen staff at work

👍👍👍 .. good tip. Yep, sometimes my thumb joints 'get in the way' opening lids and such 🙄. One of those 'jar openers' resides in a kitchen drawer. I've also poured hot water over a metal lid / immersed the lid quickly therein. The metal expanding is often just enough to enable one to get tight lid turning .. with then or without additional leverage. Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

In my old Archery days I always carried a piece of inner tube, worked great on arrows stuck in a target & still keep them in kits. Another thing I carry now days is one of those silicone wrist straps, works great with my Trangia burner or anything about that diameter.

Great idea Blackie. I myself have osteoarthritis and would often take something with me to open jars, but something I would forget them and end up using channel lock pliers to open them. "I always carry tools". But that is a good idea 💡. Keep up the good work and God bless.

Black if the next time you go to a lab to get blood work ask for the tourniquet that they use to draw your blood. They just throw them. Them rubber straps are the cats meow to help remove a stuck or tight lid. It probably don't weigh over an ounce. And would be a lot quicker to use. I'm not saying to abandon bank line the tent stake. Also with 2 of them bands you could hand craft a. Sling shot if the need ever would arises.

Lose the sugar and bread. Take a BLOODY good laxative. Then fast for a week, preferably ten days. Also try wrapping your hands in warmed castor oil leaves. But you need to detox mostly - hence the laxative. A damn' good shit'll clean your system out something amazing. The fast will finish it off.
