I have two elbow crutches that I use to mobilise but if I decide to go to the supermarket i can only use one crutch so that I can carry the grocery bag lol. When I travel I get assistance through the airports, immigration etc so in that regard nothing has stopped me. Severe nerve pain - bilateral myelopathy - is hard to control. I have 21 items on my prescription refills and a recent consultation with my neurologist resulted in getting the morphine I asked for two years ago. Cold weather is a killer for me so I try to go to places like India for a few weeks during the winter just to get major relief from taking painkillers. When my body gets the benefit of the heat there my body loosens up and I never need any medication at all. Within two hours of coming home I'm back on handful's of pills again. My attitude is that I can do something, everything until my body proves otherwise but I can say that I tried - it's always fun lol. (I still ride my Arab mare regularly and I wouldn't ride any other breed because I don't trust them lol).

Miraculously I was no paralyzed. I hit so hard my head went halfway into the sandbar. My neck faces the wrong way and I suffer with pinched nerves that cause excruciating nerve pain. I finally found an upper cervical specialist who has helped me so much. I am so lucky. I am so grateful. Thank you for for sharing your story.

What an inspiration you are Zack to come out fighting from the very beginning of this journey we call life. This can and does happen to people every day. Thing is, not everyone handles it like you have. They spend time feeling sorry for themselves. I'm not saying thats wrong or bad, only that it takes many, time to just deal with the concept of the whole why me question. As an old woman that will be turning 60 in December and suffers from chronic back pain from a degenerative disease, I'm still able to walk. One day, that could change but so far so good. From now on, as I lie on the table dreading the shots I'm about to receive, it will be your sweet brave face that I will think of. If you can deal with all you do then by golly, so can I and I will. You inspire me. I believe that you have great things in your furure and the drive to achieve them. God Bless you. I will follow your progress along as long as you allow me to. Thank you for sharing. By the way, you sure are a handsome young man. Its that smile. Your smile can brighten up a room of gloom from darkness to light. I’m so glad you are alive. You inspire many people to persevere. Things will continue to improve for you because medicine will find a cure, I’m sure. Keep that great outlook! You’re in CA, right? I’ve been riding a motorcycle for 44 years. I could easily have ended up in your position. When I was about 6 we were boating on the Feather River and stopped to swim at Verona, where the Feather meets the Sacramento, and my brother was diving into the water and knocked the wind out of him because he hit a submerged sandbar. He could easily hate broken his neck. The Yuba River meets the Feather River at Marysville and continues south to where it meets the Sacramento River. At some point in the late 1800’s, the gold miners started hydraulic mining, washing away whole hillsides. They choked the River up with sand and gravel so much the government outlawed hydraulic mining. The farmers downstream were complaining because they would get flooded out in the Spring. They were mining at a place called Malakoff diggings. They were getting plenty of gold and didn’t want to stop. So the mining company purchased the very first telephone system west of the Mississippi River. They had a spy in downtown Marysville. When he saw the feds were getting ready to make a raid, he would called up to Malakoff diggings and tell them to shut down. Back in the late 1800’s roads into the Sierra Nevada were scarce and in very poor shape. By the time the feds would get to the mine, it would be shut down. That first telephone line went only from Malakoff diggings to Marysville and was strictly to warn the miners to shut down. I’ve been prospecting for 25 years and have a claim. The history of gold mining in California is wild and there’s still plenty to be found. There are a couple places to learn about gold mining up in the Sierras, the Empire mine in Grass Valley has a great museum and gives tours for visitors to see how the mines operated. The Sutter Mine in Sutter Creek on Hwy 49 gives tours of the actual functioning mine. They have low profile Jeep type vehicles and you ride down into the real mine and they give a great tour. It might make a fun destination for you. Sorry if I wrote too much, but I get carried away when it comes to California gold mining history and I figured it might interest you and give you an option for somewhere to go this summer. Keep up the good attitude, and know a medical treatment for your condition will come in your lifetime.

Think about it, people with injuries or medical disorders that cause paralysis or movement difficulties were really a lot more isolated and led crushingly boring lives without the internet, like if you wanted to read something someone would have to bring the book or whatever to you and you'd most likely not be able to afford a lot of reading material if you were in that condition, you'd probably be in some kind of hospital or like a private facility without much to do....out of all of human history you live in the tiny 20 year period that has the internet. How lucky are you?? Shoot some HEALTHY people just lay there immobile most of the day on their phone or computer !!

This is one of the most inspiring things I have ever seen. I once dived head first into a shallow foam pit (that was made for little kids) and injured my neck. I am really lucky I didn't get paralysed and this video truly shows how precious life could be. Zack, you are now one of my all time inspirations and I cherish you and your hard working family. Hope to see you at a concert one day! Keep killing it brother 🤝

Vandy 004 hey man I agree with you, but do you really think THIS particular video is the place for these comments? There will be organized religion with or without your comments, why can't you just let these people have this if it helps them? It's not hurting you directly, let them have their crutch.

Hi Zack, nice to meet you, my name is Mary. Wonderful memories I see, and many more to make! I have great respect for you Zack, for knowing God has you. He makes no mistakes, so keep doing your thing..he has big plans for you! I also have great respect for your mother..she odviously knows what being a mother is. What I mean is she no matter the situation, will be there for her children, just as I would for mine. I got a huge surprise a few days ago. My son and his girlfriend surprised me with a visit..he came all the way from Minnesota to spend the weekend with me. We had a great time! I just had to mention that..lol When I saw you here on KZbin, at a quick glance you resembled my son. Hope your weekend was good, and lots of good food! Take care~

@ZackCollie you are younger then me but you're my inspiration ☺ I have a t-6 SCI I had really bad spasms and now have a Baclofen pump. I want to be a makeup artist and I want to inspire others. I get round the clock cares and I have a 5 year old daughter. My SCI accured in 2014 July 11,every year sense has been hard. I get depressed where All I want to do is sleep and stay in my bed. Some days are rougher then others. My fiance is becoming more and more frustrated with taking care of me. I came across your KZbin by mistake. I'm glad I did. You are teaching me that my life is valuable and I'm still me just a little more special. And I can do anything I put my mind to. I want to be strong and inspiring like you. ☺ I want to except this life and move forward because some days I feel sorry for myself. Thanks for having this channel. @Zack Collie my name is Jennifer Morgan, I live in Sebastian,Fl. You might have heard of my area, Sebastian inlet, where Kelly Slater surfed all the time when he was young. I surfed with him for a few years before he went Pro. I was involved in a car accident 16yrs ago with my 3yo son, I was 22. I've had 20+back surgeries, leaving me fused from T10-S1 with peripheral nerve damage etc. I gave up for a while of seeing Drs and accepting that I will be in pain for the rest of my life and that I will no longer be able to enjoy life. I was looking for videos to help with some exercises for some pain relief and I came across your video here. I've learned that there are people worse off then me. It breaks my heart to see someone so young, enjoying life and have an accident like yours. I have to tell you that YOU and your story ARE SO INSPIRING. You are an amazing young man to have such strength to still make your life the best it can be. Don't ever lose that. I live in pain every day. I've been to a Dr. Michael Wang at the University of Miami. He specializes in patients like you. He does a lot of training Drs around the world and for stem cell research to repair spinal cord injuries like yourself. He is one of the TOP neurosurgeons in the WORLD. I see you live near the beach. Im not sure what coast you live on so I wanted to share his name and what he does. He has gotten quadriplegics to walk again. He has my case on his desk looking to help scarred spinal cord and peripheral nerves. You have the injury😥 but the greatest attitude, mind set to be a patient in his program. I have a friend, he lives in Kentucky and was, excuse me, a Marine HOORAH. He fought 3 tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. I was very close to him for a few years. He had an accident similar to yours except in a pool. He unfortunately hasn't had the chance to see Dr.Michael Wang. But he is still thriving strong like you. He goes to a lot of Marine camps for injured soldiers. They have great set ups for his and your injuries that allows him to keep his sharp shooting skills. Lol I wish there was a way for him to come to Fl and see Dr.Micheal Wang. But maybe there is an opportunity for you to come and see him. I really wanted to tell you how inspiring you are for people with spinal cord injuries. I wish you the best and greatest in your life. You have an AMAZING family. Be sure to give your mom hugs everyday. Because we mom's will move Heaven and Earth for our babies. Stay strong and INSPIRING! Support and love from Sebastian Florida and a former surfer.

Hey brother! I just came across your channel and saw this video. It's like I was watching my own story unfold...your pics, mom's interview...virtually the same. I dove off a jetty when I was 15, should've been 20 feet deep, but it was knee deep. That was in 1990. I need to take some time and look at more of your videos. Just started my own channel recently to show people what Quads CAN DO!

Zack, good job on going forward! It's hard, but we adapt.. I was injured when I was 16... I'm 30 now.. c7 level injury. I was also extremely active and at the time of my injury I was very devastated! Good to know that despite the tragedy you're keeping it pushing, and it gives people hope! And as for the family thank you for being that support/love he needed. And Zack, I would recommend wearing compression socks or dress socks to help on blood circulation, swelling, achy legs, or so forth. I am normally always on my chair for long periods of time and ended up with a blood clot, not good! lol but regular stretches etc will help out our circulation.
