I've been loving RTS videos this year! I'm from the U.S. and was born in the early 90s. I have zero nostalgia for microcomputers, British or otherwise. And yet I've fallen in love with exploring their libraries. Thank you for continuing to share the brilliant and bollocks alike.✌️❤️
@iantellam997011 ай бұрын
I think the whole 'retro gaming' scene has changed over the years. When it first emerged as a 'thing' in the mid 2000s it was basically just 20 something Gen-Xers talking about the 2d Nintendo games they liked when they were younger. Because everything you enjoyed as a kid is nostalgic, even if it was only 10 years ago. But now that subject is exhausted and there are plenty of grown-ups around today for whom the PS4 was their childhood system, so it doesn't have quite the hold it used to. I think a large part of retro gaming now is looking into the history of gaming, including some of the more esoteric parts of it. I don't have any nostalgia for Japanese home computers for instance, but I find it interesting because it's a whole alternative world of gaming I know relatively little about. I think the 80s and early 90s was an interesting time in general, because gaming and computing was still pretty localised around the world, whereas today its just more homogenised internationally.

Thanks for all your hard work on this channel, RTS. I really enjoy your videos.
@Tmrynr11 ай бұрын
I've been watching RTS for a couple of years. I suppose when i hit 40 the retro bug really kicked in hard, but i can't remember how i first came across your channel (likely searching for a playthrough of some old Spectrum game). I was always disappointed how few views your videos received back then. I must admit i was slightly worried you'd pack it in. I subscribed after the first video and have been following your content each time it's uploaded. I've seen your video editing slowly getting more ambitious and more impressive. I think it was the Addams family video where i really stopped and realised just how good you'd gotten. There was a long pull shot where you were showing us the size of the map. I knew how long this tiny sequence would have taken and how easy it would have been to take a shortcut. But the one thing you have that so many other retro YT channels don't is your sense of humour. It's perfectly pitched and never sounds forced. The writing is spot on. Funny and self deprecating and always very honest. Final compliment, you also manage to keep it real and keep us on the journey with you. For example, when you were asked to give a talk at the retro game convention, and there were technical hiccups/over running time etc, you showed us every spit and cough. There was no ego you were protecting and i liked you more as a result. It's admirable to be so honest. Anyway, please continue what you're doing and good luck in 2024.

To screw up your analytics further I'm one of those weirdos who didn't find you through your GameMaster reviews but only found your channel cos I wanted to learn more about ZX Spectrum games despite only ever experiencing it once and growing up with an Atari ST and a Mega Drive instead. Anyway it's been great stuff, and you often have me literally doing a genuine audible laugh instead of the slightly heavier exhale through my nose most KZbin videos do when amusing things come out of peoples mouths, so that's gotta be worth something!
