I got rid of everything I owned and moved to Canada 2 years ago. I’d never had less stuff. I packed my entire existence into just several bags. Several bags of essentials.
That was a beginning of my minimalist journey which not only changed the way my apartment looked, but it also reshaped my perspective on life itself. It made me more mentally stable and resilient.
When I moved to the other side of the world (from Russia to Canada), I felt like a different person. And it made me look at myself from an outside perspective, almost as if I were someone else.
I started asking myself: Who am I without all that stuff I used to have? Outside familiar environment and social circle? Without my job? Only when I left everything behind, I realized that stuff I owned hadn’t defined me as a person.
I became a minimalist. I learned to be calm and satisfied. I learned to be happy.
