Mary Beal. Great name Mary! Do you know of your namesake? The mid 17th Century English Portrait artist Mary Beale? She was recognised in her own time as England’s first professional woman artist and worked very successfully and fully supported by her husband who handled the business end of their joint enterprise. Mary was unfortunately, often confused with Peter Lely and regrettably, due to centuries of blatant sexism her finest works are attributed to him, whilst his worst works were automatically attributed to her. 😞😞😞 The Victorians refused to accept that women can paint and due to their neglect by overwhelmingly male Art Historians women’s contribution and achievements in art have been often hidden, exacerbated by the ban on signing their work. Mary was excellent at painting children and was responsible for some wonderfully sensitive paintings of her son, Charles and downright sexy paintings of her husband Charles Beale whom she obviously fancied something rotten and who may have been a bit of a hottie 🥰😘 She’s worth Googling, especially as she painted silk and lace beautifully so her paintings are a brilliant window into Restoration period fashions. 🌺🌸🌼💐🌷🌹🌻🌺🍾🍾🍸☘️🦚🧵 🍾🍸🧵🌼LOVE MARY!💐🌻🌺🌷🍸🦚 🦚🌻🌹🌹💐🌼🌷💕💕♥️🌺🦚🍾💐

A wonderfully exact measurement that I work with often. 😄 Your "limited" embroidery skills produced some beautiful flowers. It wouldn’t have happened to be on my sewing table?” “Oh no! Mommy! It was just lying around.” Within view, in our reach, and our dollies’ size, so obviously ours.) With your stranded silk thread you cut a length (not too long) and take all the strands apart then put them back together again, all facing the same way as they came off the reel, then thread the needle. This gives you a flatter finish to your satin stitches and really makes it ping.
