Im so jealous you got direct help from a person close to you. I think thats such a huge advantage and great way to learn instead of just reading books/ do online person bc you directly have someone near you that can show you and assists when problems occur. Which age did you start learning UX Design and did you spent a whole year learning all that? Cause I cant afford to quite my job so I dont have endless hours a day to learn that skills :// I also have a question regarding the work as a UX designer (im sorry im a total newbie). I saw in your portfolio that you made projects based on real existend apps for example Uphabit. Are that projects you rlly did in collaboration with those websites? Cause how did you get the user data. And how did you manage to get people for surverys from those applications? And how can you get a real perfoming app for people to use? Dont you need to program it to really work? Cause I thought designer just do that..design and programmers transfer the design to the app/website.

Thank you for sharing this! Im 26 and always had an creative/artistic feel but I feel that I am wasting my talents at my current job and Ui/Ux is something I can see my self doing. Do you think I'm too old to start now lol?? I wish I would've learned about this earlier T__T
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
It's never too late! I had the same thoughts when I was first starting out because I invested so much time in school for something else. But, now I could not be happier with my decision and the impact I'm able to make with this career. All the best Clark!

I wanna thank you so very much for this video. I’m in the process of changing careers an wanna get into UX Design. I wanted to see if you could be my mentor into being a UX Designer
@rui3594 жыл бұрын
Dear LindaAhn, I am also coming from a similar background - I completed a graduate program in healthcare (took a lot of years!) and now doing a U-turn into design, my favorite thing to do in the whole world. I am also going the self taught route and actually started also on June 2018, but had to take months off due to finishing up my university. I recently just finished my portfolio and would've started applying, if it wasn't for the new virus. Do you think it is a good idea to do internship or jump into full time UXUI designer?
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
AmyZee Hi Amy. It’s great to hear that you’re pursuing what you really want to do! I know right now it’s definitely a harder time to get a job but just know that there are still companies out there needing designers. I would say go for both, but in your case an internship would make more sense. This way you are able to work under knowledgeable people in the industry and learn and grow from them. Hope this helps! Goodluck 😊

Inspiring video! Do you recommend course or bootcamp?
@LindaAhn3 жыл бұрын
I've only done courses, so I might not be the best person to answer this question. But from what I heard is that it's more about the actual material and mentors you get out of the course or bootcamp. So I would look into both and see what best fits your case.

hey linda, you mentioned you learned a bit of html and css, how important do you think knowing how to code is for ux? do you use it in your career?
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
mira d Hey Mira, thanks for the support! I don’t think it’s important at all when you’re first starting out, but I realized it’s a very good asset for later on. Now a days I’ve seen companies look for product designers who can do both ux and front-end development. My tip would be to focus on getting good at UX first before learning anything more. Personally I don’t really use it in my career, but I eventually want to learn how to. Hope this helps!

As UI/UX Designer, should I have a Website Portfolio? What if I don't want to make a Website? I have Dribbble, LinkedIn, sometimes write articles in Medium, and also Behance.
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
Great question. Personally, I think it's important to have a portfolio whether that's in a PDF or website form. With the other platforms such as Dribbble, Behance etc., you don't have control on how you present your work. It's hard to show your design thinking and process just through some screenshots of your projects. Hope this helps!

I haven't found anyone gives an estimation to a question I have (I'm sure it varys depending on location) but for you: What was the entry-level salary for you and what do your offers look like? From what I've collected, those who go through boot camps that have a background in design more or less ended up with junior positions. Thank you for the vids :)
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
When I landed my first internship I was paid $18 CAD per hour. Then when I got my first full-time job I was getting paid 60K CAD a year (this was a junior-level position). In terms of pay, there's a lot of different factors involved. Eg. where you live, your skill-level, negotiation skills etc.

Great video. Am at the stage of learning from KZbin and google I’ve seen Interactive design foundation but am still unsure. How was your experience using them ?
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
LeanMachineFitnessTV I think it’s useful as someone who’s new to the industry. I also think it’s a very fair price point for what you’re learning. But again, there are a lot of free resources online now, so if you’re not 100% committed I would explore it out first using those free resources!

What’s your favourite/recommenced free resource or way to learn Ui online. I like the look of figma but have seen more kits etc for XD and sketch so not sure if I should stick with figma. Great job channel by the way (watching from London)
@LindaAhn4 жыл бұрын
@@danlegend3104 I think Figma is probably the best choice for a free option. I've heard some good things about XD but can't say much because I haven't used it yet. But thanks for watching!
