born to be a mangaka, forced to study accounting >_< it's very validating hearing your story on how you made time for what was important to you even though you worked in finance! i get discouraged easily seeing the people who are able to pursue art full time in school but hearing how you are able to make it is very inspiring

has becoming a mangaka changed the way you criticize other works? I really feel bad now for how much I used to roast clearly talented figures like Gege when I realize just how much work goes into drawing, let alone storyboarding/writing...Maybe the story lapses can be forgiven....
@vijaz55592 ай бұрын
You can clearly criticize any story apart from the production/author. But you can also do it without “roasting” it with harsh words and such

I am critical of things I understand. Story, flow, characters. Things like taking hiatus , health, feeling rushed by fans, pushed by editors, I try not to be critical & instead be empathetic.

Was it hard for you to quit drawing and focus only on writing? My dream is similar to yours. I want to become a great mangaka and inspire others the way my favorite authors have inspired me. Sometimes, though, I struggle with self-doubt about my art, and I feel like giving up. But at the same time, it’s impossible to imagine letting go of a dream that means so much to me. I guess Bakuman inspired you to be a writer for an artist who can bring your story to life, right? How did you handle those moments when you felt unsure about yourself?

Hi there. Any advice for a starving manga artist? I'm an African American that resides in California, working for a government job within a cubicle. My job robs me of my energy and time to work on my manga, and I've even gotten in trouble for sneaking in panels while at my cubicle (multiple....multiple....multiple times). I haven't quit my job yet because it's the only thing paying for my house bills (and being a home owner in California is beyond expensive.....so I need this job). I've been working on a horror manga story for about 2 years so far. I've shown it to alot of people in town, and all of them are saying I need to just publish my work on webtoon already. I haven't done this yet because I'm honestly way too nervous to do so due to the first half of chapter 1 (which still isn't done yet) having mediocre art at best (bad proportions, no backgrounds, no coloring, and none of this is digital). The other half of chapter one has much better models, shading, and even backgrounds. I'm worried if people on Webtoon wont bother to read the story because of how messy it looks, despite the narrative being engaging (according to the people I've shown in town). I don't want to be doing taxes for the rest of my life, this is my true calling. I just know it. How do I ensure that I am successful in taking the path of a webtoon manga artist with the obstacles in my path? (My honest biggest obstacle is my job being my only source of income to pay for my house mortgage, insurance, bills, and CA taxes. If I were not tied this job, I would commit to my craft full time).
