Will Webtoons Overtake Manga?!

I doubt it will, Manhwa rarely has anything uniue that pops off, nowadays manhwa only has either, Absurd romance stories or solo levelving rip offs, stories like Pig pen, and bastard don’t get the same recognition as the rest in the manhwa industry despite being one of the best written stories ever. Only a minor few of manhwa’s have big fanbases and if Manhwa doesn’t start making more unique stories, it wont grow the same way as manga did

There are plenty of great Manwha and plenty of dime a dozen shit novel adaptation manga out there too. The bigest issue manwha is facing is the rise of Solo leveling clones because solo leveling itself is terrible.

I think the biggest difference here is that manga is an industry of the first order. Graphic novels and animation in Japan surpasses even America in size, they're both crucial for Japan's economy, therefore, there's tons of corporations , and with the huge numbers of creators competing with one another, refinement and evolution are guaranteed. Manwha's not that, they're not as big, there's not as many creators, therefore, the material conditions to produce great story tellers and artists is less than japans

Yes, it's very doubtful that modern manhwa will overtake manga. I think it will only became an option. There are still few great manwha out there, like tower of god, the breaker series, return of the mount hua sect, etc, but most of the manhwa today are like mass produce product generic and mediocre.

In high school-college I actually only read webtoon (it was free and accessible), but in the past two years I've almost primarily started reading manga. I started feeling like I was reading the same stories over and over again on webtoon, and I'm not saying it doesn't have room to grow (or that there aren't any worthwhile ones), it's just going to take some time. I honestly think that in a few years everything is going to be digital focused, even Japanese Manga maybe can use scrolling narrative or design the pages in a way they can be read on a vertical device as well. But Japanese manga is way more popular and old, and I don't think Webtoon focus is to be a Korean media because they're investing in Global artist since it's beggining. But talking about the KOREAN webtoons I think they're beautifull and the narrative (in terms of script and storyboard) are great. But every comic it's the same. I like Romance Fantasy and it's ALWAYS about someone that died and Reicarnated to get revenge of their husband or something like that (but I kinda like some of them) and I love the art style of them. In terms of International Webtoons we have GREAT titles, like Marionetta is one of my favorite Comics of all time (including manga, manhwa, us comics, etc) I also like Morgana and OZ and some other titles.

Japan is very slow to adapt in regards to tech, but the talent is clearly in manga. I'm not really sure why other countries can't compete but I think it must be something culture related about Japan which is why they produce so many unique stories and imagery. DanDaDan prob could only exist as a Japanese manga. What I could see is a Japanese manga artists releasing on Webtoons instead

what matters is how unique the story is ...yes Manhwa has some beautiful and colorful arts that attract me like a magnet. But Mangas colorless art still give us the kick if it has a unique story line. I guess I cried more or emotionally more connected with the manga. Manhwa on the other hand has a good dominance in the new generation community.

I mean there are some titles that I personally think are up there with the top mangas in terms of narrative but aren't as popular because of the genres, here are some names: -Who made me a princess -The greatest real estate designer -The beginning after the end (For me, this one is better than Mushoku Tensei but it's not talked about a lot these days because of the hiatus)

However, if we compare TBATE and Mushoku Tensei, it's up there (I have read the novel). If we compare WMMAP and Fruits Basket, I think it's up there. If we compare The greatest real estate designer with Grand Blue, I think it's up there. If you compare these Manhuas with other popular mangas, animes or even novels of the same genres, I believe these are top tier.

The answer is no. At least not yet. It will take decades for that to happen. Just a thought I think the anime industry can adapt in the future some murim manhwa. It's a genre we never saw adapted in anime. Not happening. Like 70% of people claim that they prefer reading on paper. Manga has (so far) way more creative stories, is easier to print, is CHEAPER to print AND has an ad in form of an anime. Manga would have to shoot itself in the foot like US comics did in order for webtoon to win (which they won't cuz the system has worked perfectly fine for hella long).

Yeah. Like you said, its only a matter of time before webtoons become more popular and mainstream. The larger majority problem could be applied to manga too though, manga has that contention of everything that's out being the next big hit and it gets annoying, but you don't get that with webtoons. There are some seriously hype webcomics/manhua out there. Hellper, the boxer, dog ningen just to name a few. I'd put them on par with really good manga. Plus, the mainstream ones like TOG has gotten more popular, but it's hard carrying the webtoon rep. It's great to see so many webtoons like viral hit and a returners magic getting anime as well. I think once the extremely popular ones like omniscient reader and TBATE get anime, Webtoons will explode. I can't see them overtaking manga though. Maybe more of a manga vs comics relationship where one is inevitably bigger, but the other is still huge due to culture and how good some webtoons are

No. Manhwa will not overtake manga BUT there are a lot of good manhwa i currently read i personally enjoy I am the fated villian (nothing too deep but love to read) The boxer Solo leveling Nano machine Be the actor Empress remarried Mercenary eneollment Return of the iron bloodhound Study group Return of the bloodthirsty policeman Medical return Rooftop sword master Get schooled Bully in charge God of blackfield Jungle juice The beginning after end Peerless dad Second life of a gangster Eleeced Just to name a few but nothing isnt surpassing manga because a majority of the manhwas are copies from each other. I've seen a ton of bad cultivation manhwa, a lot of bad harem manhwas, the isekai trope is over done, etc. Don't even get me started on the terrible comedy in most of them. They pack those stories with meme, jokes, gags, and their not even the good ones.

In general manga will feel more diverse in their storytelling because manga magazines have maintained that quality through editorial decisions. The editor's collaboration adds that extra degree to manga - they can point fresh talent in the right direction and act as a champion when the work isn't an instant hit. Weekly Shōnen Jump has had the biggest reach for decades, but it's just one of dozens of magazines in active publication. And Jump follows specific formulas, but those formulas are distinct from the other Shōnen magazines. So readers who are looking for new stories get to pick and choose: "oh, I like what Shōnen Ace is doing right now," and switch to that set of stories. Manga's production pace is notoriously harsh, but the magazines have set specific targets that everyone tries to hit, and they want the stories to be finished since that will sell more Tankōbon. When I look at Webtoon I see a clearinghouse that is collecting the fees, but isn't getting deep into talent development or curation; authors who have worked with Webtoon have had complaints about their interactions being mostly production-focused, with the website basically encouraging a race to the bottom in "deliver more panels for less money". They don't care if you burn out and the story is unfinished because they'll just rotate in the next guy doing the same cliches. If that doesn't change, the quality won't really get better - good independents in web comics will just exit the rat race, learn to build a web site and figure out how to do it alone, like they always have.
