You fail to realise that it is your accent that makes your speech so beautiful. I love to listen to French people speaking French or English because the beautiful accent is so romantic. Your English is excellent and your accent beautiful, hope you never loose it 😊

One thing I tell French people in particular, your accent, when speaking English, is particularly charming. Theo, your English pronunciation is very clear. Yes you have an accent, but it adds to your character as a person speaking English. My French is no good, because I do not practice. My ability to speak French was better when I was younger, and closer to the period I studied French, so when I speak French, I butcher it, with a smile, and I giggle. So, French people seem to enjoy me, and try to help me improve. 😆

@@frenchguytheo I took my French nephews to Munich when they were 18. Thanks to their American grandfather, they have his very deep voice. Each time they spoke, women (German and American tourists) would gasp. I explained that they were listening to you speak English, with a deep French accent. They just couldn’t believe this was something that sounded good. It’s been 7 years, and 1 nephew definitely understands the attractiveness of his voice. He also speaks more English for work. 😆

Theo, your English is fantastic! I’ve been learning French for over ten years and the thing I keep hearing from teachers is exactly what you said, for a non-native speaker your accent will never be perfect. And it doesn’t matter. Personally, I adore the french accent of French people when they speak English. Bravo to anyone who is learning a foreign language and is not fried to speak in it.

Theo, your accent is lovely and charming! Keep doing what you do, I'm enjoying listening to you. And you are right, often the critics are the people who have not made an effort to learn another language.

Wow, I cannot believe the oppressive attitude towards speaking another language. Obviously based in insecurity. I'm glad you did not fall in line and allow others to dictate your wishes and behavior. You have a very strong character, Théo.💪🏽

Theo, new follower. I found you via Lucile (the video where you two had Steak Frittes and Tartar in the awesome corner restaurant, where you are a regular). Anyway, I lived and worked in Germany after I graduated University here in the USA. I spoke German pretty well, but had some problems with pronunciation (those dang umlauts can be a tongue twister for us Amis!). Anyway, I understand absolutely everything that you say.......keep on, keeping on. You are French. You are not going to sound like me (or any other person who speaks English as their native language). Don't stress, man. I will share a secret (and it sounds like you already know this): it can be challenging to speak a "foreign language" as an adult. You go through the different phases and it can be frustrating (speaking a lot about the phase where you can understand most of what was said BUT struggle to reply.......and you feel like a five-year-old). I can say that with time things will get better with respect to "French accent". My German improved with time. Eventually, people did not think that I was not German.....until I messed up a word here or there. Then they would smile. And would give me a really nice compliment (something like, "Wow! Until that one word I did not know that you were not German.....you will get that word pretty soon....just keep at it".....). And, as you so beautifully stated - you can not ever hide the fact that you are not "fill in the blank here". Follow your passion and good things will come....always.

Interesting video as always, Theo! Actually, EVERYONE has an accent, even NATIVE SPEAKERS OF A LANGUAGE HAVE AN ACCENT. A native French speaker might have a Parisian accent, a chti accent, a southern French / provencal accent, or a Swiss or Belgian accent. Same for native English speakers, who may speak with a London accent, a cockney accent, a Scottish, Welsh, Irish, or even a Northern English accent, to name a few. There are also regionalisms, so the vocabulary and expressions may vary. The diversity makes it so much more interesting!

Excellent advice. Don’t let criticism hold you back. Learn from people who correct you - especially in grammar. I know that you are doing very well because you said that when you speak in English you think in English. The greatest accomplishment is to be able to avoid translating in your head before you speak another language.

I discovered you on Instagram early 2022 and devoured your content since I was planning a trip to France from Pittsburgh, PA, US. I purchased your map of best places to eat in Paris and was so glad I did! My family and I kept our eye out for you while we were there in October 2022. We drove down to Belves and then back to Paris over a week. We decided that we would retire in France in about 15 years. I was overjoyed to find your KZbin channel. Keep up the great work. I have been learning French casually but steadily for about four years now. I am looking forward to coming back and trying to speak French more than last time.

I find it interesting that people would confuse the fact that you have a very noticeable French accent (you are French after all), your ability to speak English, and speak English clearly enough that English speakers can understand you without any problem. I don’t speak any other languages besides English (I’m just now attempting to learn French through Rosetta Stone), and despite your French accent, I have not had any trouble understanding every word you have spoken. Additionally, your English with the French accent, is actually making it easier to learn how to better pronounce French words. So keep up the good work of continuing to improve your English, but just know that you speak very well.

Hi Theo. A little off topic, but would you be able to make a response video about that French journalist who in front many public officials and esteemed guests posed a question to Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie on whether there are bookstores in Nigeria. Chimamanda responded by saying that it reflects poorly on the French people (additionally she also commented on how unnecessarily disrespectful French immigration officers can be towards her and I'm sure other visitors of France as well) that that question be asked. The journalist sort of tried to justify why she asked that before hand. But I am so curious what prompted her to ask that? Is it normal for French people to be that curt in an official event? Because in common standard, that is high level ignorance, presumptuous and so undiplomatic and that is precisely one of the reasons many tend to build and maintain that 'rude French' stereotype. Another example I can cite is the 'Kelly Rowland & Cannes-usher' incident. Appreciate your videos Theo, thanks.

People with French and British accents are given waaaay more latitude and deference when they're learning a different language. The accents sounds charming, there's also a reputation of sophistication and sounding educated with French and British culture/society. Certain accents bring out people's biases and they are not treated so kindly, depending on where they're from and what language they are trying to learn. I did a study abroad from the US to Paris and everyone-my American classmates- were concerned about pronunciation and accents. In the meantime, the grammar was butchered and they spoke like cavemen.

I speak French (not fluently, but I can get by) and once I took a class with this woman who spoke French with a completely American English accent. Besides that, her French was good, but very hard to understand. The point is, everyone has an accent depending on who they're talking to.

♥ Théo - I love your energy and enthusiasm and I am so proud of you! 😃 I came from Cuba when I was 6 years old to the USA. Because I was young and we only spoke Spanish at home, I became a true bilingual with no accent in either language. But my cousins who came to the States at a higher age STILL have some type of accent that I can detect. An old singer called Gloria Estefan also came from Cuba around the same time. But she STILL has an accent. I suspect that the reason is that when she grew up here, she only lived in Spanish speaking areas. On the other hand, we moved to a fully American neighborhood which strengthened the way I spoke English. My sister and I were lucky in that respect. 😄
