Another thing that helps to build confidence is to compliment other people, and lifting each other up. Not only does it give a boost of confidence to that person but also makes you feel good about yourself for doing so. And I so agree on what you said about not talking smack. One time, two girls asked me if I could talk crap about someone. I stayed silent, asking myself why in the world was I hanging out with such negative people. Surround yourself with people who are positive and open minded!!! Also I think it is important that whenever you look at yourself in the mirror, focus on the things you actually like about yourself or something you're the least insecure about instead of focusing on your "flaws."

This goes off of what Jenn said but I think what has helped me immensely is realizing that everyone is concerned with themselves-- barely anyone actually cares about what you're doing, or how you look. And for the few that do, that's their problem. What they think shouldn't affect you!

I Think that another very important tip is to STOP comparing yourself to other people, because i feel like that's the biggest thing that bring a lot of people down, myself included. Even knowing it's really hard to do we've to.
@shannongreen37547 жыл бұрын
I never realised that up until a few years ago I walked around looking at the floor and hardly ever looked up because I hated the idea of people looking at me - I thought I would be invisible to people if I stared at the ground. Now that I am older I look around while I walk, put on badass music, and I appreciate nature - focus on the beauty of your surroundings, not other people!

I got so emotional watching this video, I don't know why but probably cause I can relate so much to it. Every tips that you said are exactly what I've been trying to apply to my life and they just sort of lived in my head cause I thought it's my own way of coping with things but they actually work on other people too. Just finished college and basically in that place where I don't know where life would take me but you delivered such strong messages and that truly inspire me. Not a lot of people can make inspiring and motivating videos with straightforward messages cause sometimes they're overshadowed by useless talks that's just circling around the topic but you've done it brilliantly. I hope you can continue doing this because you truly are a remarkable person and you may not realise it but many of your videos have helped many people, including myself.

totally agree with the eye contact thing. I trained myself not to look people in the face in probably.... middle school? it helped me a lot walking through the halls at school because I had crazy walking anxiety (if that's a thing lol)
@FallinxStarz7 жыл бұрын
Do you really never make eye contact? Of course it depends on the situation but I find that such a weird thing.. If you pass by someone (who is not approaching you in a negative way) you can at least acknowledge they're there by looking at them or saying hi? Maybe it's a difference in culture but I find that a bit rude..
@mneedham057 жыл бұрын
Tessa vo I'm from the US so eye contact is so important, but of course I acknowledge people sometimes. I work at a school and of course I smile and nod at my coworkers. But in crowded places I usually don't make eye contact because it makes me nervous. I guess I'm rude, but it's something that allows me to go out and do stuff, rather than making excuses because I'm scared of getting that anxiety.

That does make more sense to me now though, thanks for the explanation!

Thank you Jenn. I think it's important also to make 'mini' challenges like talking to a stranger, doing something you've never done before. Humans can be very cruel, offensive, and that for free. Yesterday I took the bus to go take care of my pony. On the way back, teenagers began to say that the horse odor was "unbearable" while they even live in the countryside. They strated caughing, laughing nervously, saying they will eat horse meat. I was really uncomfortable, even ignoring them. They abused of the fact that I was the only 'stranger', all alone, and they were in a group. Next time I will sympathize with the driver of the bus. It's the only person they can't "control" and in that kind of cases it is important to make allied friends. So my advise is: ignore negative people, and go talk to the other people: 1. Do not isolate yourself 2. to share you're not alone and 3. don't be affraid to talk to people and eventually make some new friends. And don't forget to be positive, always. This will help to gain more confidence in difficult moments. It took me the hole night to figure out what to do next time lol. I was so relieved and happy, I was realy good about myself, when suddenly it happened to me. It can happen to everybody.

@maureene71387 жыл бұрын
Túktā Stay on the right lane for highways if you aren't comfortable. Once you get used to it, you can go to the middle lane. (I still tend to stick to the right lane unless i have to take an exit that is on the left.) Also, as my mom always tells me, don't drive for other. Drive only for yourself. Don't be pressured to go a certain mile just because of other drivers. They can always pass you.

Wow this video is amazing, Jenn. It is definitely and standout that I will definitely re-watch. Ok, personal story time: When I was in middle school, a couple of friends and I were mugged while walking from school to the subway. It was very scary and the guy made an example out of me by slashing my face with his knife. I'm telling this story because this incident left a huge scar on face. Although I later learned how to use makeup to make it less obvious, it would always show and it is always the first thing people notice about me. Needless to say, my confidence took a hit. I know that most of the subscribers here will have insecurities relating to their appearance as opposed to anything else. In high school, I took a philosophy class where I learned about Shcopenhauer's "Will to live." I won't really go into it but the general idea is that matter, or our physical selves is not what the world is made of. It is 'will' that is the key to life. This always stuck with me because it meant that for humans/people, our hopes, desires, needs, and goals are what make up who we are and encourage us to keep living. This was all just a long-winded way of saying that it's what's on the inside that really counts, lol. I'm sorry this was so long but I guess I felt inspired to write this. P.S. My favorite songs to listen to when I'm down are "September" and "Boogie Wonderland" by Earth, Wind & Fire
@imjennim7 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you for sharing that. I'm so sorry to hear that happened to you especially at such a young age. It's so inspiring to hear how you learned that the key to life is "will." I agree! Thank you for teaching me something new. Also I LOVE SEPTEMBER By Earth, Wind & Fire. Such a tune especially for a Virgo like me. (:

its funny because since last year I've been struggling with this "be myself" thing more and its gotten a whole lot better. I gave myself my much desired bangs and just this weekend cut about 4 inches off my hair and I've been buying more of the kind of wardrobe that i want which is very retro and hipsterish influenced, so definitely all the things that Jenn talks about I've already been applying to my life for the past year and they work and have made me feel more at home with myself.

we're definitely on the same psychological level, Jenn! I used to be so paranoid of people looking at when as well, and avoiding eye contact and faking it until you make it is literally the best advice I took and would give about being more confident.

I love this, Jen! You're so right, being confident really does start with being comfortable and happy with yourself :) It doesn't happen overnight and it's helped me to realize that we're all insecure about some things, but accepting that we are who we are and accepting others for their quirks and uniqueness makes life a lot more positive

Hey Jenn, This is the first time I comment one of your videos, although I've been following your channel almost since the beginning. I just wanted to tell you that one of your quotes rules my life and is the one that gave me confidence over the year, and it is: "To gain confidence, you need to try risky things, get out of your confort zone. It will be uncomfortable at first, but you will unconsciously earn confidence. That's truly the only solution." To this day, I apply it and I tell my friends about it, because without it I don't know if I would have had enough mental energy to survive. So thank you Jenn 💕

Sometimes making mistakes that feel right , make you into a bigger person. I graduated a semester late , and failed planty classes in high school. In other people's eyes , I was failing and making mistakes that would mess up my life. But taking the time I needed to graduate and taking life at my own pace made me stronger today. I hadn't failed classes because I was doing " bad things " , I was going through personal issues and wasn't ready to tackle everything on my plate. Now, I'm ready to tackle my future with much more confidence , strength, and make good choices. Just because others don't believe in your choices , doesn't mean you shouldn't.

Everytime nowdays when I have difficulties about something I think: "God gave me this challenge. He wants to see if I can make it or not. Everyone has their own challenges, but if you can make it or not that's more important." "If you really want to succeed sometimes you have to fail first." "Don't be jealous about someone. how i became more positive was realizing how everything is dependent on perspective. i can easily make a bad news good news if i choose to see it in a different way, i.e to spot the silver lining. as such, i came up with this mantra for myself: everything happens for a reason and there's always a blessing in disguise. this makes any past mistakes or negative emotions a great turnaround because i don't regret anymore - i just see them as valuable lessons. this came at a point in time when i felt very cynical about life. so i'm grateful. been positive for the past four years already :)

I would definitely say that finding "your people" helps you figure out who you truly are, which helps you build confidence. I'm near the end of my junior year in college, and I am a completely different person than who I was when I was a freshman. You meet so many different types of people in college and they help you uncover your true inner self.

Hi Jenn! Thank you for sharing your tips, and I have to agree that refusing to judge others is one of the biggest things that has made me more confident...Lately I've been focusing on the beauty in everyone, and even if an outfit is not my taste, I don't try to fixate on why I don't like an outfit, I lean towards why I DO like an outfit. It's really broadened my horizons in fashion, and it just makes me feel better knowing that the people around me really don't need to worry about me judging them. I know how hurt I would be if these people were judging me, so why take the time to judge them? All looks people choose to rock are LOOKS, and there's no reason to feel any other way!

You put it in the perfect words for me! I'm obsessed with trying to figure out who I am. I'm 21, I just graduated and started a job I've always wanted but I feel like I still haven't 'found' myself and that's been really getting me down lately because I was 100% sure that by hitting those milestones, I'd be closer to just feeling comfortable with myself. But I think you're right. I think I need to step back and just take opportunities, do the crazy things I feel like doing and just absorb!

For me I'm just learning that it is ok to be 20 and single, and that I am not perfect. And that Jesus is my best friend .❤

D'ya Francois I've been scrolling through the comments to find one like yours. Thanks! Wish more people would realize the true source of confidence, that is Jesus. When you put your confidence, faith in Jesus, all your anxieties go away. He is my rock.

This resenates with me so much but also hurts reading. I lost my connection to Christ not too long ago and can't seem to get back to Him. I remember when I devoted everything to Him, I was the happiest I had ever been. I don't know what's wrong with me right now.
@BrokenWishesx37 жыл бұрын
This was me too! I felt disconnected from Him for actually a year or so, but I never forgot how happy I had been, and I used that as a drive to help me get back to Him. I can happily say that I've been on the right track for a few months now, and I just hope that I can get back to where I was before, surpass that, and continue to grow in Him! Don't lose sight and you will come back to Him. x

YOU ARE AMAZING! I like you post these kind of video which really helps me a lot. I hate public speaking and writing. It's not like I can't do public speaking, I just can't do a free style speaking. I have to remember every single word I will present in the presentation otherwise I will not know what I'm gonna say. One thing that I know to make yourself more confident is to love yourself. If you don't live yourself, no one does. Thank you Jenn for sharing your experience!

"So the next time you're about to bad-mouth someone, or judge someone, just realize that it's a cheap form of conversation or thought.'" Gawd I love this so much. I literally rewound the video so that I could hear you say it again. This is so true. I love your fashion videos Jenn, but I also get super excited when you make these "off-brand" (??) videos. From what I've seen of you through your channel and the videos I've watched, you are a well-rounded person, much like your taste in music. So it is always interesting to hear your take on things.

"it's okay to not know who you are yet, it's just a gradual process" yeah, I realized in rushing to know who you really are, leads you into being who u really are not bc like it's the pressure that's only working on you and it can get really frustrating on some point. ily jenn. make more vids like this pls!

I didn't start getting to know myself and feel confident in myself until I started weeding out the unnecessary people in my life and building on the relationships that matter the most to me. I didn't realize how toxic some relationships were in my life until I learn to let go.

I always used to care about what people thought of me. So much so that I wasn't myself because I wanted to fit in. It wasn't until college that I stopped planning my whole life around what others might think of me. Any step towards being yourself is a huge confidence booster.

Loved what you said about not judging others! I used to gossip and think bad thought of others in high school just to bring myself up but knew it felt wrong. It wasn't until college when I figured through Jesus that that shouldn't be life. Now I'm confident in who I am through Christ and God. I might not have it altogether but it really doesn't matter what other's personal opinion of me is only God's. Having that mindset I make sure to respect others for sure but I'm not fixated on this phenomena of what do others think of me :). I'm not sure if you believe in God or not but that's the only true freedom and confidence I could have truly established in my life and would encourage anyone to do so :)

If your opinion is hurtful to others and doesn't affect you in anyway it is irrelevant and not worth uttering. It just turns you into a prejudiced person, and ultimately affects your own person negatively.

I definitely started to become more confident when I stopped competing with others. As women we are taught to constantly compete; for men, careers, or to be the prettiest or skinniest. It's hard! You're constantly putting yourself down to be the best. I've learned to be comfortable with my skin and to embrace my flaws and more importantly to embrace what makes me unique. Also I think having the ability to fully support others with no agenda cultivates a huge amount of self confidence as it means you're helping others and realising that you equally are supported. Just do you and embrace who you are and who those around you are!

What makes me more confident is when you get little compliments from colleagues or coworkers. It shows that you are improving from where you started and that you still going to keep trying no matter what. I love how you really are a uplifting KZbinr who grew in all the years you been with KZbin. Thanks for the positive and sincere talk :)

What helped me was when I decided to stand my ground and to be brave with the choices I made. It takes alot courage and faith to make a solid decision in your life and to recognise what it is you want. But when you do you learn to have conviction in the choices you make, it gives you a sense of confidence. Take those chances and yes, stretch yourself. Explore explore explore. Make solid decisions and be open to the whatever the outcome Be it good bad.. Either way, they are your results and your gains. They will be a part of you and help you know yourself better. Have conviction and be courages. It's scary but a beautiful thing.
