@slatanek4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Harrold if only I had the funds... Besides I fully agree with Colin here - the M20 engines sound way better than the newer ones, so I will stick to M20b25 or ETA with m20b25 parts. For now though I'm in a pickle - I think I'll deregister it (or however it's called in English) and wait for better times.
@slatanek4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Harrold appreciate your input, but you're simply wrong 🤷🏻♂️
@slatanek4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Harrold that's why I said I'd swap for m20b25. I'm not a fan of custom swaps ie. a V8 in an E30 is heresy imo. The m20 engines just suit the era and the car far more than the somewhat gutless sounding newer R6s. Only the M3 E36 engine sounds equally raw to me. Btw the M20b20 is good for 129bhp and while it's not fast by modern standards it's the feels that count to me. The way it goes basically from 2000rpm and the way it screams above 4000 is just superb. Only proves power is nothing if u can't use it. All the 500bhp engines in 2000kg cars are stupid to me - you're simply aren't able to enjoy even 10% of the cars capabilities in modern traffic congestion without breaking the law every 10 seconds.
@slatanek4 жыл бұрын
@Richard Harrold if by fun u mean drifting and donuts, sure. And the m20b20 in type 2 chassis which I own is rated at 95kW/129PS/127bhp at 6000rpm. 120bhp version was used till 1986.

The whole thing about keyless entry and ignition as well as touch screens is the reason I swear I'm going to keep my 2005 EP3 Civic for as long as possible; when it dies or I become sensible enough to want something that isn't that rough over speed bumps I'll just keep buying mid-2000s shitboxes because I genuinely can't stand the idea of all that stuff.

I have a XLWB Hitop Iveco Daily coming up for sale soon on a 2004 plate. Also, a Peugeot Boxer Luton box van with a tail lift that is LEZ compliant 2013 plate. I have actually a funny story with the luton box van that only happened in October 9th this year. I am from the North East of England live in a small village on the Durham coast. I had been booked to move items from a secure storage site in Gateshead along with the person who owns them down to White City to an apartment block on the junction of the Westway A40, and Old Oak Road. You probably driven past it plenty of times yourself. Anyway, he had a tight budget which wouldnt really make the trip worthwhile. So to help him out, I booked in a couple of side loads heading to London to be picked up from the North East and he offered to be my labourer for the day. So I collected a few London bound loads but I dropped him off first at the Westway. I then did my next drop in Maida Vale. I was bored and decided to do a facebook live post from my phone in the holder and to give a virtual reality tour of London. I found myself on Edgware Road heading towards Marble Arch. I decided that I will head towards the Trafalgar Square. The route I had taken on this Friday evening as it was just starting to get dark was down Edgware Road, onto Park Lane to Hyde Park Corner and down Constitution Hill passing Buckingham Palace on my right. As I was approaching the traffic lights by the front of the Bucky Palace. I saw a large group of police officers walking towards The Mall from the park on my left. I thought to myself at the time that is a group of more than 6!! Never thought that I was about to be pulled over. The lights turned green, I turned onto The Mall and was immediately pulled over by this flock of coppers and 2 BMW X5s pull up too with armed officers. I was asked to step out and turn off the engine. So, I thought I be helpful and asked would they like me to turn the engine off before I step out? They were not amused so I was escorted from the drivers seat and walked around to the nearside of the van by 2 officers. While round on the nearside, I was then asked what do I have in the back. My reply was weedkiller and bleach. I was then pinned up against the side of the van and frisked while having guns pointed at me. Turned out I only had a chest of drawers (which I knew all along). The police started doing checks on me and they found out I was still on license from my previous prison sentence which I served late last year to early this year. Anyway, cut the story shorter as I am getting bored writting it. I was arrested by them as they thought I may be in breach of my license conditions even though I pointed out that my one and only condition was not to leave the UK. I was de-arrested after 15 minutes and was told I was free to go. I asked them out of curiousity what was the reason for the stop. At this point, we were actually beginning to get on and they werent actually too bad to be fair. Apparently, it is against the law to drive a commercial vehicle passed Buckingham Palace or some royal parks or something. Strange rule. They decided not to give me a ticket as I was not aware of the rule as there is nothing like that up here. There is a sign stating no trade vehicles but I told them I must've missed it as I was avoiding hitting any cyclists. They let me go, did my last delivery in Cricklewood. Then found myself on the A1 near Grantham on way home when I suddenly remembered that I was meant to pick up my return load in Brent for 8pm. So returned home with an empty van. The luton has 240v power sockets in the back which is provided by a 8000W inverter from an Aux battery with a split charge relay so doesnt drain the main starter battery when the engine not running. However, my old Ford Transit mk5 hicube van on an X plate so is also LEZ compliant. It has the 2.5di banana engine. Its not been on the road for couple of years due to corrosion. My mate bought it from me on the very cheap but he is not doing anything with it. I have not got any pictures of the van any more. But it has been used in the film I, Daniel Blake when I was an extra in the film as a rogue van man called Mike Hunt. The van appears around 1 hour 10 minutes into the film. He probably let it go for £300, maybe less.

I also thought about the whole "why not one button for unlocking and locking" but it turns out, part of this is additional functions. Most manufacturers link opening or closing windows by long pressing the unlock or lock buttons respectively. I had a volvo where (before the separate red button) if you held the lock button for a long time, the alarm would sound etc. Not an excuse, admittedly, but potentially an explanation. :) Love the podcast, keep it up :)
