In this series of videos I’m going to share with you my process of building the magician, from prototype to making 30 of these automata. mechanicalcreations.co.uk

This is done to a noticeably higher standard that many of the automata by experienced makers producing machines of a similar style and complexity. The precision of the tapping wand and the subtlety of the movement of the lifting arm are really nice. And look at the smooth edges and polish on that brass! Tidy.

Some may say the use of machinery takes away from the artistry of the build, but I guarantee Michelangelo would have used air hammers on his sculptures if they had been invented back then. The artistry and skill of the build lies in the mind of the maker, a gift from The Maker!

I love how you minimize the appearance of the wires/rods ect. On the top parts. The engineering and math is beyond me.

Like all magic tricks the most interesting part is finding out how it’s done! Beautiful work 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Your welcome Jim, It’s a lot of work. I seem to live and breath automata at the moment. However, it’s all done for the passion!

Thank you for the video, and the previous ones. They are very informative.

The only thing I would consider changing is to have four completely different objects appear under the lid instead of just a rabbit or it being empty.

Awesome video. I'm just getting into automata, so it was really helpful to see a more detailed breakdown of the process. Thank you.

Looks like this edition is completely sold out. I’ll be on the lookout for another edition, possibly a variant edition or kit? The magician automata has always been one of my favorites, and your version is the tops!

Hi Oliver, forgive my low experience in cams systems, anyhow what I would like to know is the way on which you synchronize all movements: do you draw a phase diagram? Your talent is really amazing! Thanks Please, if you find the necessary time answer my question! 😊 Have a nice work
@mechanicalOlly197711 ай бұрын
Hi, I don’t use phase diagrams. I usually take a well-thought-out guess. Then I will experiment with those timings on the prototype and adjust them accordingly.

Just wanted to say how much I like my Magician. My wife purchased it for me for Christmas. What a great surprise! I do have others in my collection including from Pierre Mayer but this is one of the best! Any plans for doing Part 2 of How I built The Magician?
@mechanicalOlly19774 ай бұрын
Thank you so much, and I'm glad you like your Magician. I had every intention of making the second part of this video. Unfortunately, I had to abandon the filming as it was taking too much of my time, and I was falling behind building the 30 Magicians.

I think id easily spend weeks studying about automata and how to make them, do you have any online sources where i coud research about that amazing form of art?

This is awsome. I love the mix of art and engineering that goes into these models. Your courage to make it into a buisness as well. You have a similar story to @jbvcreative
