Could you also talk about light requirement, ideal temperature, how often should you clean their leaves and what type of soil is best for an aralia? I just got one and heard that this plant is really sensitive. Thank you for sharing tips of watering it!
@Mycityplants4 жыл бұрын
With pleasure! - Temperature 65F-80F - Cleaning leaves at least once every 2 weeks - Use soil that offers good porosity. We sell and use pit moss soil that is also full of nutrients - the best I have ever worked with. It can be purchased here: bit.ly/2SumKuf - Make sure the plant gets good amount of natural light and it is bright. Direct sunlight ok but ONLY from the East - morning sun is very gentle. My plant is very happy by the North-East facing window. - Rotate frequently to provide equal light exposure to all sides - Allow the soil to dry well between watering rounds. I use the Soil Moisture meter bit.ly/2yuXVpc to test the soil to check if the soil is dry enough and the plant is ready for a drink. - Make sure the pot has drainage. - Do not place near AC or heat units. - Keep away from cold drafts during cold seasons. Green Luck! 🌱

I was thinking of taking a stem cutting and transplanting it into a mini cubi. My question is will it do well with just Pon?
@Mycityplants Жыл бұрын
Hi David, Place cuttings into water and wait for the roots to grow. Change water at least once a week. When the roots are 3-4" long, you may pot cuttings in PON or potting mix. Aralia should be happy growing in PON. Green Cheers & Thank you for watching 🌱

@@MycityplantsThank you! It worked out great but now I think it’s time for a larger planter for my main plant. My aralia is 29 inches tall now. What planter do you recommend?
@AuthorQueenBrown2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for sharing. I have two Fabians. My larger one has dropped 90 percent of its leaves and the stems are soft. All of this happened after repotting. Is there a way to save it?
@Mycityplants2 жыл бұрын
Hi Queen, Soft/mushy stems are usually the sign of over watering... If stems are droopy, then the plant might be dehydrated. I would recommend to take the plant out and check the roots. - If roots are very dry - give the plant a nice drink. Water under the sink and let the water SLOWLY run through for 5-10 minutes. Let the water drain out completely before placing the plant back. *** Make sure the plant is potted in a pot with drainage - If roots are mushy, brown, they are rotting as the result of being over watered. Cut off affected roots, repot the plant in a fresh soil and get a fresh start. ** Here is my vide about how to save an over watered plant: bit.ly/3qtI1T6 - if all roots are firm and healthy, the plant will recover once you establish a proper watering frequency. Green Luck! Thank you for watching 🌱

I have the same plant and its leaves are turning yellow and dropping but I haven't overwatered (to my knowledge) and I only use distilled/filtered water. Perhaps it's an underwater situation or too much sunlight? It is in an east facing window so it only receives bright morning light which I would assume is okay. Please help me. I've grown so attached to this plant.

Hi Sin, Thank you for watching 🌱 This can be the sign of scale or spider mites. Check the leaves closely (top and under) and plant stems. Here are our videos about: Scale bit.ly/2FtnoEs Spider Mites bit.ly/30dWAQo *** Before treating your plant, try to spray the solution only on a few leaves, as for some, it can be damaging and burn leaves if they are young, sensitive, or already damaged badly by the infestation. Switch to Neem Oil amzn.to/3b7SZb1 as soon as the infestation is under control and minimal. Spray Lightly once every 7-10 days until the issue is solved and no new signs of pests are present. It is best to use just Neem Oil as the treatment for very light infestation or for sensitive plants. Once a week - Wipe off visible bugs with 2-3 drops of dish soap diluted in 20oz water and LIGHTLY spray leaves, stems, and soil with Neem Oil. *** I would also recommend using Neem Oil for all your plants as a preventative measure during Spring-Summer or when you have a sick plant at home. Spray lightly once every 2-3 weeks. Green Luck! 🌱🌱🌱

I have this exact plant at home. I have no clue how to nurture it. I have been watering it everyday because my balcony is too hot and gets extremely hot evening sun. I wonder if it is going to survive? And what kind of soil does it like may I ask?
@Mycityplants3 жыл бұрын
Hi Nay, Thank you for watching! Is there is a way to move your plant to another location, where it will get bright but indirect light? *** This plant can also adapt to low light if placed close to the light source/window. The ideal temperature for plants is 65F-80F. If it is too hot on the balcony, do you have a space for the plant inside? I use GoodDirt potting mix. We sell it in our online shop and ship it nationwide: mycityplants.com/products/indoor-potting-mix. The formula of peat moss and BogBits™ create an ideal porosity, meaning roots have ample room to grow and breathe. This added airspace combined with sustainably harvested peat creates a condition for optimal water retention, ensuring your plants’ roots have adequate hydration throughout. + this potting mix is full of essential nutrients. Ensure the plant is potted in a pot with drainage that is at least 2-3" larger than the original container. To avoid frequent watering, a self-watering planter is a way to go. The planters we use and sell are the best! All my plants are posted in self-watering planters and very happy! The sub-irrigation system creates the perfect environment for plants, puts a plant in total control of water intake, provides drainage, lowers watering frequency. You can purchase a self-watering planter for your Aralia in our online shop: mycityplants.com/collections/planters. We ship planters nationwide as well. Green Luck!

Hi, I have the exact same plant , I’ve had it for almost a year, it survived winter without problem but now its bottom leaves are turning yellow rapidly (like 10-20 in the past 3 weeks). I’ve checked for pests, it’s not root bound, I haven’t moved it and I keep checking moisture for watering needs just like I have always done. It’s making me really sad because it’s a present from my mum and they’re quite rare in my country. Any idea what could be causing this? I’m not a plant newbie and ive crossed every possible reason I could come up with off the list
@Mycityplants2 жыл бұрын
Hi Harry, Thank you for watching! 🌱 My Aralia plant started to acting up as well this month. Since the plant has entered the active growth phase, the watering routine needs to be adjusted. I started checking the soil more often and water the plant now more frequently. This helped! Soil Meter is my big helper :) bit.ly/2yuXVpc During Spring-Summer, I water my Aralia now when the meter reading is in the 4 zone. Where during winter months I wait for the soil to dry a bit more and water when the meter reading in 2-3 zone. Also, started feeding it with my fave plant food bit.ly/35qzXtf. My plant seems to be happy and stable. Another reason - fungus. You might want to check the roots to make sure they are firm and healthy. If any rotting or fungus present, cut out affected roots and repot your plant. Hope this helps and your plant will stabilize. Green Cheers 🌱

thanks for the useful video. I also have this plant which I recently bought. Its placed in a corner that does not get direct light and I water it once a week. I noticed every morning it has couple of leaves fallen down from the three and they are not totally dried leaves either. they are green color and half of its stem is still attached to the three. Is this something normal for this plant or what can be possibly wrong with the plant. I would really appreciate it if you can give some advice
@Mycityplants4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Once a week sounds too often. Make sure to give your plant a good full drink and then allow the soil to dry out well - 3/4 through. Also, plant should not be standing in water... Drainage is important! Do not keep this plant in the plastic nursery pot. It might need more covering for its roots. Repot in a 2”-3” larger planter that has drainage!!!! Use potting mix that offers a good porosity. Make sure the temperature is in the range 65F-75F Corners can be tricky and might not have a good air circulation. Make sure there is enough space around the plant. Green Luck 🌱🌱🌱

Thank you for watching and for sharing your tip! 🌱 Scale insects thrive in warm, dry environments. Misting is very refreshing for plants but does not really elevates the humidity.
