Anlamb milk replacer is much better for lambs than mulligans FYI. You can also buy bio support which you sprinkle a small amount into the milk which has probiotics in it that help prevent bloat instead of yogurt. I’m off a sheep and beef farm in NZ and raise between 5-15 per lambs each year since I was born so thought I would provide some friendly tips 🙂🙂

I have the same dilemma in my kitchen, but I wouldn't be able to have a fridge that opens to the left (and I don't think you could currently either) because I wouldn't be able to open the door fully because of the wall that is there. For functionality it would be better that it opens to the left, but I think it's fine - especially if you're thinking of having the fridge in either of the other corners. :) I LOVE following your journey on the homestead. I hope Woolson makes it, you've done a great job so far and he seems to be progressing well!

Btw... would recommend you dilute/cool the boiled jug water down a bit before you pour it into a hot water bottle. Rubber doesn't like super hot water. Would recommend 60-70 degrees C, as the hottest.

As for Woolson, you could shear him later and knit your 1st babies clothing. Are you interested in a few mohair goats for their beautiful mohair?
@SezShares3 жыл бұрын
The fridge would drive me up the wall. In fact, I have been in exactly your situation and it has driven me up the wall and gotten out the tools and reversed the door. Guessing from the handles you don’t have that option :-( When you do renovate, remember that if you do put the fridge in a true corner (you’re next to an opening there) you need to a put a cupboard or a bench next to the fridge, so you can open the doors past 90 degrees.
@serahnkahukura84333 жыл бұрын
If you have a ratchet wrench, it only takes a few mins to move the hinge on the refrigerator to the opposite side. You can change it for now, and change back when the kitchen is renovated.

Carrie - why do you warm the milk like that haha? We use to just boil the jug and use warm water and put the powder straight in the bottle with warm water on top and shake well. It might be easier/less time consuming if you want an alternative option :)

I’m actually not warming anymore as I’ve realized that with the yogurt mix it states on the recipe that there is no need to warm it.

Morena, You are obviously slightly isolated on your wee homestead here in nz but I'm curious how you're adapting to culture changes. Even things like word differences. Hottie/hot water bottle vs bladder, jug is sometimes used for keg. Or just anything in the public you've noticed, Service at vets or mitre 10, or supermarkets. Interactions with your neighbours. You are living and breathing the kiwi life now. Have fun.

We are soaking in the cultural differences. That’s one thing I love about living in another country. There’s so much to learn and soak in.

Bloat can also be an issue if the lamb is fed too often while being held/cuddled earlier on, rather than allowed to stand and develop strength of feeding and digest as they usually would that way. But it looks like Woolson is also heavily encouraged to run around a heap before and after, so hopefully that early feeding wasn't an issue.
@CarrieRad3 жыл бұрын
He was really weak at the beginning so I had to hold him to feed but now he feeds right side up without me even touching him. He runs around a ton before and after. I’m doing all the things recommended at this point. Hope he stays well.
@Tom_McMurtry3 жыл бұрын
@@CarrieRad thanks to your awesome care :)) Sorry, the comment was probably a bit insensitive. I was just thinking on reasons that can cause these things. But if too weak initially and for awhile it can't easily be negated and its your care and attention that matters a heap regardless. The point also being is that as first time careers it is just about impossible to do things perfectly. And you have both done amazingly from what I can tell. And perhaps even perfectly for the situation.
@CarrieRad3 жыл бұрын
