Your pregnancy videos have been so helpful! My husband and I are looking to grow our family over the next few years and are similar ages, so it is like hearing a friend talk about their experience! Thank you! :)

Insurance with home births can be so frustrating! I went my first 20wks through a traditional hospital and then decided I wanted to do a home birth and switched to a midwife. I have insurance through “Christian health care” and they do cover home births, they even covered my first 20wks at the hospital and then covered me still when I switched to home birth! I had an awesome experience (and have a video of it if you want to check it out!) I’m 14wks pregnant now and planning a home birth again (this time in an apartment 😅). You got this! Excited to hear about your birth experience!!

It's so interesting hearing about what it's like in the US. In Canada, our medical services plan allows us to use either a midwife or an ob gyn. My midwife office had 3 midwives on rotation and was similar to yours about meeting each of them during your pregnancy appointments so you're comfortable with each of them before birth. Thanks for sharing your experience so far!

DDC Jenn We are very fortunate in Canada to have options. Just wanted to add that many Family doctors also provide prenatal care and do deliveries. 🙂

Katie Goodine Everett yes that's true! I had not found a family doctor until after my son was born so that wasn't an option for me but it's a great reminder that a family doctor is an option for many.

I love the business of being born! I've always wanted a water birth and then watched the documentary when I was pregnant. Sadly, I live in a small town and there's nowhere around here that does it 🙁

Sounds like a great situation for your first birth! I went to a similar midwife group with 2 of my pregnancies and had a wonderful experience even though I was in a hospital. My last birth was at home, which was a dream of mine and my next birth will also be at home. And I love your attitude about labor! You will do great, I'm sure!

i would have loved something like that clinic, but near me there is only one midwife clinic and its an hour away from my house and they don’t allow epidurals and for my first pregnancy i want to at least have the option 😩 and it isn’t covered by my insurance. bummer. but congrats to you on finding the perfect place!

I'm so glad you found a clinic where you feel comfortable and cared for. I always wanted a home birth too and kind of accepted that i probably can't have one because i'm not exactly a low risk pregnancy (i have an autoimmune condition). But then i went to the hospital as a birth partner to my friend last year, they have a new purpose built birthing unit with pools, low lighting, speakers etc and the midwife we saw there was so calming and chill that i am really excited to have mine there. Its a shame going to the hospital can have so much negativity attached to it. I had this kind if silly thought after the whole experience with ny friend too which was it was kind of nice for her to have that experience and then when ready just leave and come home to a nice clean tidy environment and start the next part of the journey while the hospital cleaned up the mess left behind! 🙈 i know right - not the most important thing but felt kind of lucky and special like when you go to a hotel or something lol!

Seriously girl I wish we were friends in real life haha. I watched the Business of Being Born in college too! There’s a second one called More Business of Being Born if you haven’t seen that one yet. Not preggo or trying but my sister is preggo right now. So naturally as a book worm, I’m using it as an excuse to read Ina May Gaskin’s books haha. They are amazing 🙌🏻 I remember learning about her in college too. Highly recommend! Thank you for including us on your journey 😊

Erica Goehring if you don’t mind me asking, what steps did you have to take to become a Doula? Any recommendations?
@ericagoehring1089

@@danijohns4000, I don't mind at all! There are many reputable doula training organizations. DONA and CAPPA are probably the most well known, but there are other options, too! Most training programs involve a hands-on training in addition to studying from books or manuals. My training was a two day face-to-fact hands-on training, a reading list, and a LONG open-book exam. The entire process took nearly 18 months. I also needed letters of recommendation from clients and non-family members. It was a thorough process, but I felt prepared to serve families! There are now some online-only programs. I do think they *can* be good, but I personally am thankful to have taken the face-to-face training. I learn some skills better through a hands-on approach. I should also add that the doula industry is not regulated by the government. You do no have to be "certified" to practice. However, I am glad that I did go through the certification process.

Did they give their reasoning behind why you can't give birth in a tub? I'm curious because I'm considering that option but not if its unsafe.

There's just certain facilities that don't do it because (I believe) the cost of cleaning it, draining it, etc. Not that it's not safe :)

My girlfriend took a emergency contraceptive pill during periods and the very next day her periods stoped. Is it something to worry about?
@alilea6449
@alilea6449 5 жыл бұрын
no, it's not something to worry about. an emergency contraceptive pill like plan b makes the body produce an excess of the hormone progesterone, which thickens the cervix and temporarily stops the release of an egg from the ovary. most likely her hormones are just out of balance now, stopping her period. progesterone commonly stops periods though, with some people it can make bleeding worse even, depends on the body. there could be cramping, and nausea too, that's really common and nothing to be scared of unless it's unbearable and relentless for an extended amount of time. to be safe, take a pregnancy test in a couple weeks, otherwise drink lots of water, eat lots of nutrient rich foods, and hopefully by next month everything will be back in proper cycle and her period will be regular again. try not to take things like plan b often, they really aren't good for your body to use often because your hormones are sensitive and powerful, and aren't meant to be changed like that frequently. hope this helps, i know it's fucking long lol :)
