"I did some building off-screen" - The entire colouring portion of this
@MsSoapify3 ай бұрын
Here are some detailed process notes I took for myself, feel free to copy for anyone who wants a written guide! 1:43 She does flat, low saturation colors by lassoing them in, all under her sketch. Colors for different elements are on different layers 2:09 She's airbrushing gradients on each of the flat layers to make them feel not monotonous 2:12 Changed the line color to dark brown, put on multiply 2:20 She puts the sketch and all the flats into the same folder. Makes a copy of that folder for backup and then works on a merged version. 2:35 Multiply layer for shadow put over top of everything. 2:40 On top of the multiply layer is an add layer for lighting. Instead of erasing stuff from the multiply layer, she's drawing in the light shapes on the add layer 2:55 On top of all those layers, she's using overlays to add in ambient oranges and blues. Most of the blues are in the shadows (duh) and I'm seeing the oranges mostly affect the light, like where the lines of the hair are a brighter orange 3:02 She's also adding in the saturation to the terminator line/core shadow where the shadow and light meet. She's also got soft gradients for the reflected light in the shadows. I think she put the colors for this step and the previous step on one overlay layer mainly 3:09 She takes the tone curves and plays around with the curves on that single overlay layer, and sets it to pin light to get more interesting colors. CSP seems like it makes the tone curve a separate layer, so in procreate I'd have to duplicate that overlay layer probably 3:21 She also uses a gradient map and posterization (not familiar with these, not sure how to use them) 3:39 She puts all that in a folder together, saves a copy and merges it, then starts painting on that merged layer 3:43 A little hard for me to describe how she's painting, but she's carving and sculpting a lot of shapes by picking from the colors on the base. She's also using a regular square-ish brush, I think. Smoothing alot of things out, not too attached to the original shapes laid down (I struggle with not getting too attached to the base) 5:24 On the eyes, she's using like a lighter midtone(?) value and defining the eyelashes with darker strokes and triangles around it 5:37 Also noticing she occasionally uses the airbrush tool tobrush back in some gradients, or like the shadow under the eye. Also just noticed that she's added a bunch more layers on top. 5:40 Using add layer to add more glow back into the painting. 5:55 Another backup folder of all new layers, continues painting on top 8:17 She's done alot of cleaning and refinig, softening things, hardening them back up with lines. She's also airbrushing more saturation back into the hair 9:45 Final adjustments with tone curses, gradient maps and posterization. 11:06 After doing the chromatic abberation, she adds a noise layer and we're done!
Thank you for showing how you used all the correction layers!! I learned so much from this video and your art is so beautiful ❤️

This was so useful and your painting is so cute! But the correction layers and effects went by too fast for me to understand exactly what was happening and why. If you could do a slow video with explanations for dummies in the future, I’d be so grateful!

its really interesting that some artists adapt the same. I used to draw only on one layer and slowly adapted it with just emerging the layers like you and then just paint it over. its fascinating. Still learned that i can use hues and other effects to colour correct
