Thanks for this! I own a g85 and have been making videos with it for over a year now, but now it’s time for me to step in my game and start color grading more professionally! Would love more videos about color grading, cinematography, and story telling if you’re up for it!

Nicely done Spencer. I like that you point out that GX85 footage (and perhaps most 8-bit footage regardless of camera) can't be pushed around too much in post before falling apart a bit. When I had my GH5 I used 10-bit 4:2:2 almost all of the time and found it was a bit more forgiving. Natural follow on from this is the importance of nailing exposure in camera.

Thank you so much brother! Exposing correctly in camera is very important, over and under can really shift the colors.

I really like your videos!!! Can you please Tell wich camera is better for film look between Gx85 and G95? 🙏 Thanks!!!
@SpencerWhiteman2 жыл бұрын
Good question, depends on your shooting style. The G95 has a mic jack so you can plug in a mic, the GX85 does not. The GX85 is much smaller and stylish. Both cameras are great, I just love the look & feel of the GX85 body :)

hey Spencer! can I ask you what is your experience with still photography with gh5/gx85? do you enjoy it? do you think it lacks compared to other camera systems? amazing grading tips in this video, by the way!
@SpencerWhiteman4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Marcel! I actually have a lot of experience with shooting photos on both systems. I really love them both, I feel like the audience that uses those systems for Photo work never really have the best work to show for them lol! Obviously the sensor is much smaller than most professional still camera systems, but I've still been able to achieve beautiful DOF/looks with the m43 cameras for photo work. I'd be happy to send you a few photos I've taken with them!

How do you toggle on/off the LUTs?
@SpencerWhiteman3 жыл бұрын
In premiere there is a global FX button that is displayed under your viewer. If it's not there, you can add it to the toolbar under the viewer. Or you can go into the effects panel and toggle on an off your LUT under the lumetri color effect inside the effects panel.
@geoff07074 жыл бұрын
Is there anyway to get a look color wise similar to an Alexa while using the natural profile? I know there are luts for vlog for an arri look but those are mainly for 10 bit footage so the gx85 tends to fall apart using those
@SpencerWhiteman4 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff! Hmm, I think what can get you there is using curves in post to give that subtle roll off transitions from Highs to mids to lows. I like making 3 points and on the highlight portion I drag it down a bit to give that softer roll off effect. I also think filters and lens choice will play a big role on achieving that look. Vintage lenses and even a simple ND filter can soften up the look a bit since it's just another glass element in front of your lens. You could also look into some other type of softening/contrast reduction filters to achieve that look such as Tiffen Black Pro Mist, Moment Cinebloom, Dream FX. Those are the more inexpensive softening filters.
@geoff07074 жыл бұрын
@@SpencerWhiteman thanks for the response! I'm switching from the a6500 to the gx85. Just got it in the mail and now I'm waiting for a speedbooster to arrive lol I do have the tiffen 1/2 so I am excited to test that out. Also if you did make a arri lut style for this profile I would be happy to purchase it, with that being said I'll be purchasing your current lut pack sometime next week. Not many great gx85 footage out there but you've showed this camera can produce a beautiful image in the right hands 👍 keep up the content
