Yep, I have all the lenses you mention, I shoot on a GH5. My favorite is really the 28 mm AIS. It's sharp right away at 2.8. It's like a 56 with a dumb adaptor or a 42mm with a speedbooster, and frankly I would have to pay so much more to have the same quality.

One of the biggest advantages of the GX85 is its ability to take 3840×2160 photos directly from the camera. It can be displayed on a 4K TV in a point-to-point manner. The curve will not be deformed due to thumbnails, causing the image on the screen to be blurred.

@SpencerWhiteman3 ай бұрын
Two things: 1. You can get a 2nd hand GX85 for around 400. 2nd hand S5’s are around 750-800. So, almost double the price. 2. This video is about 4.5 years old. That’s like saying you can get better quality out of a Sony A7s 3 than a Sony VX1000. Obviously. One camera is way newer than the other lol.

Hi! i have been on this gx85 rabbit hole research. I have the g7 and the s5 from panasonic. I was lucky to find a gentleman on offer up who was selling some mint condition. he only used them once for an action scene then put them away in storage. If you are looking for an everyday carry or a travel then get it! it will not disappoint. I personally got it to shoot photos but its nice knowing I can shoot video if i want to. Thank you for the video!

Paired with the Leica 15mm 1.7 is very underrated... I love this setup till today. I tend to bring this with me more than my S5 for trips. The image quality for this old camera along with the Lumix color science out of camera is something special.

Thanks Spencer, as someone who previously owned a GX85 and now a GX9, I love seeing what it can do in capable hand. Anyway, may I ask if you have a tip to nail white balance or do you just stick with sunlight?

I realize it's been a long time, but nowhere and no one is announcing important information. At least it is not obvious to me. Such a question, in what program you paint video (in this camera there is no logarithmic profile). Immediately in rec 709 and add everything to taste or somehow need to convert correctly?

I have the gx85 and I can never sell this camera. I honestly think it’s the best camera Panasonic has ever introduced. Yes it’s older but at its time. It was seriously underrated. Install a 14-140 lens and the 25mm leica lens and you’re set for amateur. I get compliments to this day with the photos I take with it.

What did you use to grind down the protruding element on the 24mm? This is an issue with my 20mm using a speedbooster and would be nice to be able to use it with it.

Thanks for the video Spencer, a strong reminder that it is not always the gear but how we use what we have. I had the GX85 but upgraded to the GX9. Yes, it's an upgrade in every sense but part of me always miss the simple charm of GX85.

Amazing result our of this small box. i m rediscovering the gx85 that i bought 7-8 years ago and really enjoy it. Your video brings more interest to the video part. Some of the links are not available anymore, could you give the references of the gears used. Also why is the 25mm your favorite lens (i have 20mm and 42.5 and contemplating the 25mm), is it still the 3 years later?

Have both the GX85 and GX9. Both really do get the job done. I like the Leica 15mm f1.7, 25mm f 1.4, and the Leica 12-60 mm f2.8-3.5 zoom. I use the zoom on vacation and the others for street work. Great video and the tips are certainly worth giving a try.

BUT I notice you haven't posted in over 2 years on KZbin and your blog. Is there a chance to ever see more of your takes on the gx85 in the future? Sincerely, A big fan

Hey man. I love the way the color grade. Just a few questions. I am considering the S1 to mainly use with vintage glass. How is the focus peaking and general experience with vintage lenses? Also when I checked the DPreview studio comparison tool I did see that it has some weird color science when it comes to the RAW photos, it has that weird green tint on it. Did you experienced that? It seems like the S5 has a much nicer and different color science but everyone is saying they have the same....now I am very confused to say the least......
