How I create EPIC TIMELAPSES on the 5D Mark IV

Timelapse photography can really add another dimension to your videos. The 5D Mark IV is great for time lapse photography as it has a built in intervalometer. Time-lapse photography is great for transitions in videos and for establishing scenes or to capture an epic sunrise to open up your video or maybe a dramatic finishing sunset at the end of your film. In this video, I take you through my method of getting EPIC timelapses out of the 5D Mark IV and then I show you how I process all the images in Adobe photoshop cc and adobe after effects cc to clean up the image overall.

Good tutorial............I like to use the render to video feature on the 5dmk4 because it doesn't increase the shutter count dramatically.......ever since the 250k shutter count on my 5rmk3 made selling it more difficult, I have been more restrained with the shutter count. Of course you get better results shooting raw and following your process through Lightroom, Photoshop and After Effects but the render to video function is very handy for a quick timelapse. Love the colour stabiliser tip for reducing flicker.

This is where mirrorless cameras have their advantages, although Canon could easily include a fully silent mode in their next DSLR cameras as well, since the EOS R also supports it.

Yes, but most of them have an electronic shutter which is perfect for timelapses, no shutter wear. I use it on the A7s all the time, with the built-in app it can record both a video as an instant preview as well as Raw files. It's great for a scene with people being close, where you don't want to make a constant noise. Also, in movie mode on the Canon, you are restricted on what shutter speeds you can use.

Hi Michael. What ISO setting did you use in Av? Fixed, or Auto, with perhaps a set ISO range to prevent noise as it got darker? Cheers 👍

Hey mate, I used fixed at 100! Yeah, so the Av mode with fixed ISO lets the shutter change (open for longer and longer) as the scene gets darker. Your welcome and thanks for your comments.

Anti flicker is for lights in your area. The streetlights and lights in a stadium. The lights vary in intensity and the anti flicker mode recognizes the time the lights are at there brightest and fires cameras shutter to open at that time for maximum brightness and color temperature.

I am new to this so you have to go one step at a time and elaborate on it. You can't just throw the whole thing at someone at warp speed and expect them to take all that in at once. Heck, most people don't even have light room or photoshop.

The Right Honourable Jimmy Hey Jimmy, I’m using AV mode to let the shutter change as the light gets lower. In M mode you don’t have the option to have the shutter automatically adjust to the lighting conditions. Hope that makes sense

The Right Honourable Jimmy You would probably be fine shooting M mode during the day but watch for cloud cover. The trick is to ensure that changes with light in the scene are really minor. Thanks for reaching out!
