Love this video Lisa and thanks so much for the shout out. I especially love the point that you made about making sure that you add other elements to your designs/pages to lessen the chance of your coloring books looking similar to other books out there in the marketplace. Great video love your work, and highlighting someone else says a lot about you well done. Removing the colour from Fire Fighter was great...now how do I do that in inkscape?
@LisaIrby2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I have no idea. I don't use Inkscape. Had issues with that on my Mac. Does Inkscape have a way for you to select the content and change the fill color? Look for an option to adjust fill color and apply it to the image. That's the key. No matter what you use, you need to be able to adjust the fill color for the shape. So I would Google "How to change fill color in Inkscape."

I just purchased Adobe Illustrator and wasn't able to duplicate what you' did. Guess, I will have to do some tutorials. Cuz, it wasn't as simple as you said. LOL I was able to fill but couldn't get the strokes to obey me. :)
@LisaIrby2 жыл бұрын
After you select everything with your mouse, make sure you hit the V key (move tool). Sometimes it can be finicky and I have to select everything twice. The first time I did it when recording it didn't work for me either. The Fill/Stroke wouldn't allow me to change anything. The editing made it look smoother than it was for me. lol

@@LisaIrby I just had to familiarize myself with the tools once again. It's been a long time since I used Photoshop, which is similar. A bit different learning curve. I'm sure I will get the hang of it and will using Ai will be an important tool for me as I advance in my KDP creations. :) Also, as I researched Ai vs Affinity D, Affinity is supposed to have more vibrant and stunning image creations. I don't know if that's true, but as I look at many of the coloring books out there by some outstanding publishers, their work is absolutely amazing. I want to create more like that!!! :)

So are you doing ads that are .5 or .10?
@LisaIrby2 жыл бұрын
They change often depending on the performance. Right now all over the place from .5 to .10 and amounts in between. Advertising is fluid. It should never be fixed. You have to monitor the results, competition, etc. Every niche will be different. My ad prices are on the low end because I am in low competition spaces. That's what matters. If you are in a more competitive space those bids may be too low.

Hi Lisa, just subscribed! Do you have a video regarding how to sell a custom design to a customer who wants a personal commission on Amazon? Anyhow, I am a new subscriber, please don't mention my name, I'm old and can't figure out how to change it! Does Merch offer a watermark that I do not know about? Or, do I have to spend money for their Transparency Program? Sorry, I know your busy, but I appreciate any advice! I did recently reach out to RJ Martinez. He is so nice! I have a quantity problem too. Like why does it feel good to upload 2-3 books a day lol
@LisaIrby2 жыл бұрын
3 per day? Oh wow you got me beat there. LOL I have actually never been a quantity uploader. When I look at my stats for MBA, my better months (over $5K were usually because of 2-3 designs that took off.) Not because I uploaded a lot. I'm still on a fairly low tier because I don't do automation. My mistake was relying on organic and not advertising those designs to grow the income even more. If those designs did so well organically, imagine had I advertised them too? So with KDP, I want to keep up with that mindset, but do better with advertising....hopefully! Fingers crossed!

How to avoid copyright
@LisaIrby2 жыл бұрын
Use images that you actually have commercial rights to use and avoid just using the single image as I mentioned. Add additional shapes, images, etc to each page so your content is unique. Try not to just use images "as is" if you can help it. If you have been given rights to use the images commercially (Vecteezy, for example), you are free to use them as you see fit. Stay away from free image sites. Most of the times those images have been used too often and they may not really be commercial free.

Why instead copying images from others you design your own images, and if you can't that means you are not an artist or designer and you shouldn't be chasing something on what you are not good at it, leave the market to people with the skills and stop filling KDP with garbage that everybody copies from free resources.
