I liked this one particularly because I've always loved to do apnée, always been a great swimmer, can hold my breath without exercise/training for 2m15/30secs(which is nothing compared to you), took a few diving courses but never done what you guys do, that's the creme de la creme 👌🏼 use to walk on the sea bed with ballast around my waist to see how further I could go, but here we don't really have courses like you took Judah. Diving for me is the best way for you to connect with your true self and with nature, you really feel alive. Another great one 👌🏼💫

163 feet is just about 50m. Interesting story, my father was in WW2 and his submarine was torpedoed and came to rest at the bottom at about 50m with all crew on board. He was one of less than half that made it to the surface. I've tried to imagine what it would have been like. Of coarse, they had no fins to help kick to the surface, but the air in their lungs would have been constantly expanding as they came to the surface. He was a lucky man... cheated death many times in his life.

Wow, that was good way to show the experience of free diving. My heart was racing as I watched it. Glad you survived it. Say, after you ride a weight down can you ride a balloon back up? One guy mentioned using a air pack that inflates a balloon type thing when a trigger is pulled. That would allow a diver to spend more time at lower depths. Stay safe, both of you.

Great achievement.....I found your rendition entertaining and interesting how different yet familiar (although I have not gone nearly as deep, and never in the open blue ..... always hitting bottom 38m max). I find the phasing into focus, the challenge to tune the outside and look inward, an intoxicating experience, the struggle and internal conflict for me occurs in the ascent. Maybe your next goal is to back up a bit of that ego.....find balance
@divebobber
@divebobber 3 жыл бұрын
On the ascent you have no choice but to continue ascending. On the descent is when the inner conflict can affect your choices. Do I continue or turn around?
@bunyipdan

@@divebobber Like I said different and familiar......I dont really struggle with doubting myself on why Im going 'deep' or if I have prep'd......I do sometimes struggle with 'what is out there?', 'did I spend too long on the bottom?', paranoia is a real challenge. I admit, I have not gone as deep, and am usually expecting at least a couple of seconds on the bottom....I don't dive to hit a record, so not pushing the 'envelope' so to speak.....I free dive to hit the bottom and hopefully to find dinner.

I echo some comments about nice having you back. This was intense. I felt starved for breath at times. Can't even imagine the mindset that you have going on in a dive like that. The only thing that could have been funnier in your intro is if you both had inhaled some helium. I may not ne a film producer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last week... :) Peace to you and Christine!!

Jonah I am gonna guess the 140 was the hardest because you had to expend energy to dive down vs using weight to drop with? Glad to see you made it and was wondering if you were good with that or if you are gonna make another attempt?

Which dive was harder, the 163 or 140. Im assuming the 140.
@divebobber
@divebobber 3 жыл бұрын
Guarantee it was the 140. That's the one he narrated all the conflicting words to. As a freediver who has been pulled to the bottom vs kicking down, I can tell you kicking down is harder. When you're pulled down you can completely relax. The only energy you are expending is from gripping the weight and clearing your ears. It takes quite a bit of energy, thus oxygen, to kick down.
@ClarkJudah
@ClarkJudah 3 жыл бұрын
The 140 dive because you have to kick and exert energy in the beginning to get down past 60 foot which makes you want to breath but then you have to overcome those feelings and hold your breath for another minute and a half.

I don't remember exactly but it was probably very close to 1:50 for the 163 foot dive and 1:33 for the 140 foot dive based on the average up and down speed.

If you did this in fresh water, the drop would be easier because of less buoyancy, you need take into consideration colder temperature water too.

Great dive. My personal opinion, there is no reason do dive that deep. However, if you think about professional free divers, they dive to 140 m, which sounds crazy. Diving down with 20 lbs is just cheating. It is also dangerous if you cannot equalize timely.
