Depending on your source material editing can take waaaay longer than filming. I made a couple mini-documentaries in college and when you're not dealing with a script and know exactly how you chronologically expect a video to go sorting through hours and hours of footage and hundreds of photos to cut into a 15-20 minute video is a lot of work. In that sense workflow hacks aren't necessarily going to save you a huge amount of time compared to the time you spend choosing and organizing what goes in and what stays out, then iterating on that until you get something you like. It's a lot of work but I loved doing it.

The first half of The semester was on the flat bed in the second half was on the computer. After that semester, they switched the entirely to non-linear editing. Even when we shot on film, it was sent to a lab in digitized. A former student bought one of the flatbeds for nostalgia sake. But that's cool that you got to use one!
