CORTISOL SUCKS...the life out of you. In recovery from overtraining syndrome and/or hypothalamic amenorrhea it is imperative that we keep stress hormones as low as possible. Your body doesn't know the difference between a traffic jam, a 10-mile run, and skipping a meal. Find out what you need to know!
Here's all the links to help you!

Stress, outside of weight or running being a factor, is a HUGE component, and one it took years for me to figure out on my own before I found one doctor (and only one so far) who truly understands this. Thanks for sharing and tracking down the research supporting this!

You're so welcome!! You are absolutely right that life stress is a very big deal. Also, our culture has a funny way of celebrating stress and its symptoms since we see it as an accomplishment to be "crazy busy" and overwhelmed. Ive got more great studies coming!

Hello! I am currently missing my period due to chronic low calorie diets, high cortisol levels and excessive exercise. Now, i believe i stress way less than before, i eat carbs (still counting kcals though - trying to reverse dieting) but I still workout (lifting weights most of the days). I cut my cardio in half (twice a week) and I now sleep way more! What do you think about weight lifting & amenorrhea? Thanks a lot :) x

I am one of those non athlete types who is still very overweight(despite having lost 3 stones recently) and I have Amenorrhea through doing Keto. So yes, I can agree it's not just the underweight or slim who get it. I had a hard time explaining to my new doctor about Keto and reduced carbs as she knew nothing about it. She was dismissive due to the fact I'm still overweight. I'd fallen into the under eating/low potassium trap and I've had many horrendous symptoms since, but all the doctor asked me was what type of fat I used to cook with, as she seemed to think that was more important than my hair loss of difficulty breathing, thyroid flare up or loss of period (at a time that I am trying to lose weight for fertility!). Then she tested me for a urinary tract infection(ignoring all other hormone tests saying I could have them at the start of my next period, because it was pointless before that!!) Sadly we don't have much say in what tests out doctors carry out due to it being a free service on the nhs. She arrived at the urinary tract infection(which clearly wasn't the issue) due to my intense and prolonged ovary pain. No mention was made of ovulation issues. Needless to say I'm not thrilled and I've changed doctors now. I've increased my calories, I'm eating more frequently, and now include high quality carbs, I'm trying to minimise stress, and I'm sleeping earlier and for longer(now that I can sleep thanks to the trusty sweet potato!). I'm still waking up with ovary pain, but it's easing off. Other symptoms from reduced hormones, like 'internal tremor's' and cold legs are starting to improve. So glad I found this channel because I don't feel I'm getting any constructive help elsewhere. At least now I know I'm on the right track with the changes I've made. And I'm starting to feel better.Fingers crossed I will be able to continue with the weight loss(never again Keto!) at a later date, once balance has been restored. Very glad you mentioned the importance of carbs in your other videos. I was worried about weight gain and frightened of making the switch, and it's early days, but so far so good. And at the end of the day, health comes first!

Hi! I know this is an old video but I believe I am experiencing over training syndrome and I have found your videos extremely helpful, so thank you! Did you personally experience insomnia, and if so, how long did it take you to recover? Currently experiencing it and it’s brutal. I just can’t fall into a deep sleep :(

Yes, I did and it was very bad! There are many videos on this channel that discuss this (why it happens, what it means, and what you can do), but I will give you the quick remedy: food and rest. As soon as you are able to nourish your body and stop exercising, it will get better. Promise :)

How long did it take you to get your period back one month two month? and did you have to gain weight?
@jillcolangelopsych
@jillcolangelopsych 7 жыл бұрын
Yes it took about 2 months after I fully committed, but I had been gaining weight and exercising less for 2 months before that. I most definitely gained weight. You can check out my video on weight gain for more info, but I gained 10-15 lbs. over my lowest weight for sure.

I don’t understand why some youtubers can’t just jump to the point and have to chat random staff for 2 min before starting talking about the targeted topic

Perhaps you think that you are leaving this comment into the internet void where the actual person you are talking about will not read or respond, but I assure you that I have read your comment. You are consuming content that is presented for free by an actual human being who does this out of the motivation to help others. If you would like to criticize, why don’t you do it by researching, writing, producing, and editing your own KZbin channel where you might teach us all how to “properly” produce free information? If you are chafed by my message, I will remind you that you have left this comment on the account of a human being and you are getting a human response. Be a better person, will you?
