How I go down a steep ramp in a wheelchair

I am a C-7 quadriplegic. Sometimes doctors refer to the injury I have as tetriplegia or say I am a tetraplegic. In general, you could say I have a spinal cord injury. I fell off a cliff when I was 22 and I broke my neck. I broke four of the cervical bones, known as C-3, C-4, C-5, and C-6. C-5 was crushed completely and I have a donor's bone. That's where my level of injury is, but the functionality drops two levels so that's why I'm considered a C-7 quad. No one knows why, maybe you can become a doctor and figure it out! While you're at it, maybe you can develop a cure, too! That'll be an awesome day🥰 but for now, I'll do the best I can on this side of walking with the abilities I have. My biceps, triceps, and wrist extension all work, which is awesome. My fingers don't move, but I can feel them mostly, the only ones I can't feel are my pinkies. So that pretty much sums up what I do and don't have. I might be paralyzed, but really, am I all that paralyzed?

It was great to watch. I have MS and have received a wheelchair very similar. I'm a bit nervous to do hills. You do it so gracefully. I'm sure with much practice, I will too 😊

Hi Meg. I want to thank you for such a wonderful channel. Watching you figure out a car door handle brought tears . As a 30yr /93 c6/7 I was there. I was very lucky and got most hand and arm function back. Most guess me as a para. I know the difference. More than most... my life in a chair is an inconvenience compared to yours. Fantastic job . I love your attitude. You may not agree with me but if you had armrest, it would increase your functionality greatly. I am a C-5 C6 incomplete. I was paralyzed in the Football accident in 83 after being in a chair for 40 years you really would benefit more by having an armrest. Especially if you're quadriplegic. Keep doing what you do.👍🏾

This is great. Do you have any suggestions on how to get up a steep ramp by yourself? I feel like I'm constantly fighting gravity and as I've gotten older my upper body (well my whole body) has lost a lot of strength. My insurance refuses to cover any sort of battery operated assist devices - they prefer to put people in those big heavy electric chairs that I definitely can't transport from location to location. I feel like those would decrease my leaving the house. Thanks for any tips.
