I got accepted into speech language pathology grad school!!!
Here I share all the things I did to make myself a more competitive applicant and my personal journey to acceptance. I talk about my undergraduate biology GPA, post baccalaureate program at Minnesota State University Mankato, work experiences, and my application process. I hope this video inspires those of you who did not graduate with a communication science and disorders major or have low GPA's! Let me know if you have any questions! Hey Benenon! I just had to leave a comment because you gave me some hope! Also I find it crazy that we went through basically the same exact route through switching in college! I started off freshman year as pre-med too, by Junior year I changed my route to PA school as well! Graduated in 2018 with Health Science! Worked as a Nanny for a year till I lost it because of Covid & now trying to apply for SLP grad schools is challenging without those post bac. courses. Fantastic! Congrats on getting into graduate school! Thank you for sharing about the wonderful field of speech language pathology! Being medically adjacent is so much fun because you get to marry science with helping people and you can focus on neuro, Dysphagia, voice, etc. Been practicing for years and love it! Omg!! This is so me 2.65 😢 I’m still salty and embarrassed too. Same track on trying to initially becoming a Dr and found out super fast that it was not for me too lol. Chemistry a thorn in my side!! You give me so much hope. 😊

yasss i have my bacehlros in a diff field, and i found a program i can do a post bacc online + masters in slp online iwthin the same schooll. i need to get my gpa up which is why i chose the post bacc route because if i pass those courses my gpa can be boosted if i mantain a B averageeee it will take 2 years to complete, 2 courses at a time n im alreadt working full time i just applied n im very exhcited, good luck and congrats! future black SLPS!!

This made me feel a bit better, I started as an undergrad studying linguistics not really knowing what to do after graduation. Mid junior year I decided to pursue slp. I'm starting to do research under a SHS professor and am gonna volunteer with seniors soon! After graduation im also gonna do my post-bac and apply around. Very hopeful

Hey love 💕 super inspired by your Journey ! I’m in the same boat. I have a few questions, how did you calculate your overall gpa with the post bacc and why did you chose to get the post bac over getting another bachelors degree in CSD ?

When you input your classes/grades in CSDCAS or gradcas it should give you an overall gpa and csd/major gpa. You can start these apps to get an idea of where you stand before you actually apply! I already had a bachelor's so I just chose to do the post bac because I would be able to take all the classes I needed without the extra nonsense classes. I was able to complete the classes online while working full time to save money (which was a huge factor for me!). Overall, I think the post-bac program I attended was faster and worked with my life 😊 Let me know if you have any other questions!!

hey girlie! so i was wondering when exactly you finished up your post-bacc classes and when you applied seriously. should i wait to finish them (low 2.85 GPA like you!) or can i start applying halfway through them?

Finish them and get better grades and write in your statement letter that u’re taking your life more seriously now as per your new grades.

I'm pretty scared because I only can really afford 3 places to apply to in-state. I can't really afford trying to go to other places outside of driving distance :(
