It's so cool of you to take the time and write nice and encouraging comments, especially since she mentioned she is an admirer of your channel (so am I). Not only do we learn about electronics and tube amps from you, we also learn that being nice doesn't require much effort and that pets are very appropriate in amp videos.

do you think it's still something we can learn from scratch and get into? like, i dabble with guitar pedals, but how much of a leap is it to tube amps, and could i start a career after teaching myself?

We also need more female technicians. I have worked with a few and always wondered why more girls didn't have an interest in electronics. Today, it is difficult to even get boys to take electronics up as a hobby. I hope she inspires more young women to enter the field, whether it's amp repair, radio, or whatever.
@rickmartin6817
@rickmartin6817 3 жыл бұрын
@@zhou_sei I'll poke my nose in and answer your question. You can learn a lot on your own, from books, online, videos, etc. Just be aware of one thing as it concerns amp repair. Guitar pedals work with low voltage, but guitar amps work with high voltage. Solid state amps have 120 volts present in the power supply, which is deadly if you touch energized components, and vacuum tube amps have much higher DC voltages that can be stored in capacitors and that can still hurt you even with the amp turned off and unplugged. I hope you pursue your interest, just please be aware that you must learn HOW to safely work on amps before tinkering around in them. I'll be glad to offer you more information if you'd like.

School was a grey area in my life, I’ve always known my passions in music and nature, all school did was dampen those passions by occupying the majority of my childhood life; sitting in a broken plastic chair, hands rested on a greasy table, light blaring down above me, the cold classroom where some poor teacher is trying to teach me a topic I have no interest in. School in the UK feels like I traded valuable adolescent years of discovering what I love for some general topic knowledge and an unpleasant social experience.

You've been on a fantastic journey, and you’ve remained very humble and appreciative. As boomer I believe all young people should follow their passion, whatever happens you won’t regret it. I genuinely wish you all the success in the world. One of the best parts of the video is the very natural interaction with you and your dog. (S)he looked more than happy to play with their ears and I don’t think you realised you were doing it half the time.

I was wondering this as well. And then I had to ask myself, "Hey, is that sexist?" Because, you know, I didn't really wonder too much about how Brad the Guitologist or Uncle Doug got into it. But then I realized it's a legitimate question. There are so few women in STEM fields and very, very few in amp repair, so it's good to know what attracts the ones that are interested. Maybe get some insight into getting more into the field.

What a lovely video. I taught design and technology in the UK for 38 years, although, I admit, I was never much of an expert in the electronics field. You are an inspiration. Such a great attitude and philosophy and a brilliant role model for the girls. I always find in technology it tends to be a case of "the more I learn, the less I know" and I definitely learned from my students every day. Almost all of my best students were girls and I was so proud of those who went on to pursue a career in technology. I bet your uncles are so proud of you. I'm retired now , but continue to learn about technology every day, and now I'm learning from you. Thank you.

No excuses wanted. Just do the damn job correctly the first time. Willing to pay whatever the cost is to do the job right. I took a couple of guitars to a self proclaimed wonder set up fella on the Internet and later pulled out my 335 and it was unplayable and buzzing. Unacceptable. I took another guitar to the famous Pro shop on the Danforth called attack that the snot was pinching the strings on today. Please fix it. No problem to guitar home waited problem not fixed. Had to go all the way back. what gives. Another thing repair techs don’t tell me how great and wonderful you are anymore than I tell you how great and wonderful I am thank you.

My parents had the exact same ones back in the 70's. I'm 50 now. The amp I'm going to restore is an old 65 Rose Morris Goldentone Bassmaster 40 watt. It was my first amp. I got it when I was 17 (1988). I used it for years till I got a Marshall & I loaned it to a friend who left it on his back porch for 3 years in the weather. I picked it up again & it powered up first go. I've bought new valves (tubes) for it & I'm making a new cab for it too. I watched a few other channels first. Yours is the first one that explained & showed what I wanted to know. Thank You. The goldentone is an Australian made amp. I'm Australian. My dad gave me the amp. Anyway. I wish you the best with your channel. bye the way. I love your tatts too.

Awesome story Colleen!!! My story is similar. Started off with retro 70's tube amp in early 2000's I used in my church band. When my next music project guitarist got a Mesa my brain became obsessed with tube amps. I got a rectifier head. Kept playing music. My dad has built tube radios and guitar amps since the 1960's. So when I got into guitar and amps I was really interested in building my own. He showed me the ropes. Then I did my first single ended 5 watt tube head in 2004. Then a 18 watt british high gain head. Took a break for awhile then I built a tweed deluxe. As of late I have started building again. Looking to build a high gain all tube practice head soon. In between building custom guitars too!! Lol soo much to learn. It's awesome seeing your expertise and learning from your videos. You are super talented!! Keep up the great work!! Oh yeah Uncle Doug is amazing!! I can watch his videos all day long.

Inspiring. Keep on keeping on, this sort of electronics repair is a dying art. Hopefully you and Uncle Doug help folks learn these circuits and how to take care of them.

VERY happy to see a younger person in the electronic service field! I've been at it since 1978! And a professional musician since 1975. I still service Guitar amps, PA.s, receivers, and restore antique TV, and radios. Welcome to the field!

Literally the second video of yours that I've watched and the second comment I've got to leave... Give yourself more credit! Frankly, it's amazing how much ground you've already covered. And I like your strategy towards building amps of your own, with one amp to start. I'm in a bit of a similar situation where I've designed an amp that could see light of day in production (series of long stories). And though there will and have been all kinds of logistic headaches, I always feel better when I just sit down, plug a guitar into the thing, and play. The sound of the amp just makes me happy after a while. And it kind of makes it's own peace with me that way. I wish you this same good feeling. And I have little doubt and high hope that you'll be successful.

Been a pro sound engineer and tech for 35 years . Daaaam daaam daaam im so old you have brought such a smile to my face . Thank god there are young people like you around and especially a gorgeous young woman like you . You have no idea the adventure and future that what your doing now is leading to . Soon no one will have an idea how to service or bias these old beast. And you young lady will have more work than you can cope with . Trust me on that .one bit of advice start stock piling valves and transformers chokes and high current components . Gonna be harder and harder to find .

Hello Colleen, I’m a newb to your channel........I must confess your videos are really cool! I love the vibe, the information & your guitar licks as well! This is pretty refreshing as I normally run across older male guitar/amp repairman who lack youthfulness & charisma - both of what you bring into your videos! Keep up the great work, I’ve subscribed & look forward to see what other quality content you provide us!

That's great that you had someone show you, I went to school for electronics and never got into the field, but I taught myself on old tube stuff, alot of trial and errors. But I've built like 10 amps from scratch, I like to repurpose 70s ss amps and strip them and turn them into tube amps, I got an old Rick I turned into a Princeton style amp with afew twists, to make it better, I really like the sound of cathode biased amps over fixed bias. I like that saggy, chewy feel.
