Things have changed. Back when I was in school, getting into an Ivy meant getting some good grades and spending 2 or 3 years on some meaningful research and getting a publication or two out of it. These days it seems they want kids to give up their lives just to get in only for them to learn that Ivy culture is the same, more work, more competition.

If you guys feel hopeless watching this-don’t. Princeton accepted me, but I’m legit the opposite of this dude lol. I took only 8 ap classes total, didn’t take the SAT, but at least I had straight A’s. But luckily most Ivies cancelled standardized testing requirements this year, so I didn’t bother to send my embarrassing ACT score. Also I spent HUGE effort on the application essays and somehow they looked at all this and said, “yep let this Roblox player in” 💀anything can happen if you try Edit: guys my ec's were NOT that impressive either- I didn't do any programs or internships, no no no. Not tryna diss anyone for doing these, but they sound so complicated and too much work LOL, all I did were Varsity swimming (3 yrs), NHS (2 yrs), and journalism/school newspaper (1 yr). I'm also the lead keyboard player on my church's worship team for 5 years now. That's it, otherwise I just lay on my bed, play Roblox and watch KZbin because they're addicting ✨(OFC I didn't say that in my essays). Moreover, I only scored 29 on the ACT (didn't report) and scored 5's in 7 out of 8 of my AP classes. I honestly cherry-picked a lot of information about myself to hide some of the more embarrassing statistics. Yea, it's not very sincere, but really that's just the way it is, and no one's gonna go out of their way to figure out what's behind the mask. Each Ivy League gets tens of thousands of yearly applications to deal with anyway. I'm really just the least qualified person to be in Princeton tbh, but then again, you roll a dice with a hundred faces and it could still land on your number. All it takes is to try. Good luck to everyone! 😉 Edit again: btw I made a reactions video a while ago if y'all wanna check out (cringe warning): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXXdYXaLbdeSi80 Edit once again: I don’t mean to undermine Kyle lol, he’s well deserved to be here. I’m not. And guess what, he and I share a physics class together 😂! Kyle if you’re reading this, I’m the one who always sits right next to the board and has to turn around to see it every time lol

What about extracurriculars? I feel like those are important too, I would assume you did an internship or something, and founded a club, two things I'm looking to do. Furthermore, as someone interested in International relations/Political Science, it would be nice to do model UN, but that's really hard to set up at my school. Would you recommend driving to another school just to do it?
@hj2479

@@forrestgorby1109 As a former professor I would recommend setting up the model UN program at your school instead, it shows initiative and leadership. If you do something yourself from the ground up that is a great sign to us that you have the skills to bring that self starter spirit to our schools. I work as an engineer for one day of the American silicon valley companies and are currently making more than the average salary of all of the top Ivy League university graduates. My point is that as long as you study what you're genuinely passionate about, you should be set for life. There's genuinely no reason to go knee deep in student debt at the very beginning of your life. All you do is just make the banks happy ☺️

Man I'm giving up on the Ivies lmao I only took 9 AP's because that's all my school offered Sophomore + Junior year. Can't compete with someone like this who grew up in a wealthy neighborhood and school like this.

I believe the colleges take into account the opportunities you were provided at school. My school only offers 11 AP courses so I think they would take that into account when looking at my transcript

I’m a junior in high school and didn’t even take any ap classes, my psat score was like a 1458 or sum my sophomore year and was around that my junior year too. I’m not in any high end clubs like NHS even thought I have A’s in school I never got offered to join. I have a 4.0, but never got any rewards or anything like that is really discouraging me from think I can get into a good collage, I feel like it’s too late for me. If I don’t get a scholarship because of sports than idk

I don’t know much about the education system in the US, but I googled 1600 is the highest mark in SAT. Why he didn’t get into universities like Harvard or Stanford? He is also so good at music! I really wonder who can get into these top universities!

hey, just wanted to send this your way: this made me smile because I was like this in 7th too; my whole youtube recommended was acceptance and tip videos for the whole year. now that im ending my freshman year, I realized it’s harder than it looks.not saying this to discourage you!! just don’t want you to make the same mistake as me haha. make sure that in 8th grade you’re 1000% on top of your assignments and reviewing at least once or twice a week. In high school, you have to review almost if not every single day to retain the information enough to get high scores like these!! that’s something I wish I would’ve done. so yeah, if you do good in your 8th grade year you’ll be helping yourself a lot and training yourself to go into 9th! you got this :D

@@carolina-bh6eb hey carolina thanks for the tips and I was wondering if u have anymore ? And also do u think it would be good if I took honors algebra in 8th grade ?
@carolina-bh6eb
@carolina-bh6eb 3 жыл бұрын
@@xnva. there are two algebras, do you mean honors algebra 1? if so, yeah that class isn’t too hard; I took it in 7th grade, honors geometry in 8th and honors algebra 2 in 9th and I personally didn’t hate it too bad! I believe the average math class for 8th grade is basic algebra, so taking honors is still above the average math level of an 8th grader and im sure if you do well and stay in advanced math classes it’ll look pretty good on college apps as well. even if you feel like it’s not advanced enough you should have a couple options on what 9th grade math to take! and if you meant algebra 2 you’re definitely already ahead so just worry about maintaining good grades :)
