How I Got Into Nursing School After Failing Anatomy!

I thought my journey to nursing school was over my first semester of college when I failed literally every class I took. I was honestly a terrible student in high school, I was one of those people that just didn’t put the time in. I took a semester off and thought I was going to go and do cosmetology or something like that because there was NO way someone like me would be accepted into nursing school. But then I went back, got A’s and B’s in all of my classes, and I’m starting my program at the end of this month! IT IS POSSIBLE. If you are reading this and you’ve been putting yourself down over not getting the grades you need or whatever it may be, it’s okay. YOU CAN DO THIS.

Wow I really needed to read this today!! I totally bombed my final A&P lab practical today and cried like a baby when I got to my car! Tomorrow is the final in A&P lecture and I'll probably fail that too.😢 I've been studying SOOOO hard for A&P but I can't pass the exams for anything and its so frustrating! Its so hard and I'm so afraid I won't get accepted into the RN program. Next semester I take A&P 2 so maybe I'll do better in there. Anyway sorry for the long post lol but thanks for what you ssid even though it wasnt written specifically for me, its definitely what I needed to hear!

Preach. 🙌🏼 It took me 7 years to get my BA (many years ago) and it really got me down. Now here I am, over a decade later, back at city college taking pre-reqs so I can get in to nursing school. If I can get in, I’ll be over 40 by the time I’m actually an RN. There is no timeline other than your own, don’t compare and just keep going.

Definitely me! You do not need to have all A’s to get into Nursing school. Anatomy and microbiology are hard and I have failed an embarrassing amount of classes. I thought I wasn’t smart enough to become a nurse and I would never get in nursing school. My GPA isn’t the worst but it isn’t the best, definitely not a 4.0 and after failing all of those classes and retaking them( I still did not get all A’s but the minimum grades required to get in) I just validated for Nursing School the other day! I feel like I’d always watch people videos on KZbin about their journeys to becoming a nurse and how they’ve never failed a class and got all A’s, it really brought me down. Even though that can happen, some people just aren’t the best students and have to study 10X harder than another people and somehow still get a worse grade. It’s an unrealistic expectation for everyone to have a 4.0 and I’m here to tell you, don’t give up because you will get into Nursing School even without straight A’s☺️

Elizabeth Castanier it depends where you are in my college and many others in New York City if you have anything less than A or a couple Bs your application will not even be looked at , for anyone reading this just make sure you do your research on different programs

I was devastated because my GPA was 3.48 and passed my HESI, they said my HESI score wasn't high enough. I was so frustrated that I want to switch majors, but reading your story made me think and feel a little better. Hope you're doing well at school or whatever you're pursuing.

@@karlarios5609 I got an Associates in Arts just by taking all my nursing prerequisites at a community college and then once I was done I started applying. I looked for nursing schools that had a low gpa requirement. My school required a minimum of 2.7 GPA, and my gpa was 3.1 so as long as you did good on your TEA test for entry then I was good.

Don’t know where you live but I graduated from palm beach state college in south Florida with my associates and recently graduated South University located in west palm beach Florida with my Bachelor in nursing. Not competitive at all to get in. It is a private school so the tuition is a bit higher than a community college. But as long as your grades are ok. You’re almost guaranteed in. Good luck!

Its funny you say that cause for me it was quite the opposite. In high school, I was always failing and didnt even graduate. Five years later I returned to school and got my GED in college. Now I am graduating from the nursing program and from college with honors. My explanation for this? I hated school, I never before cared for it at all. I didnt think I was smart or good at school, but I was wrong.After high school I worked in hard and low income jobs until I realized I needed to get an education. Get a true career and make good money. I went back to school and got my GED. This time I actually cared about school and Ive done an outstanding job. So, if I can do that, anyone can. If you care and you do what you gotta do, you will succeed.

I am like this as well. I made a C in A&P 1 and I failed A&P 2 because the teacher I had was so hard and was very detailed when it came to her tests. I was so sad and really thought about changing my major. I decided to still be a nursing major and I took A&P 2 again and I made an A!!!! I studied my butt off and when I made an A in Anatomy, I knew there was a chance that I could get into the nursing program. I’m currently in microbiology and I have a B. I’m gonna try hella hard to make an A but if I make a B, then I’ll still be happy. I’m glad u said that there is nothing wrong with graduating a year late. I feel like ppl try to graduate on time because they don’t want to graduate late, and end up messing things up for them. I apply in August because I want to take my time and study for the hesi in August.. Hopefully I get in!

Lexi is right - I graduated high school in 2012, went to three different colleges, had no idea what I wanted to do and eventually dropped out. It's now 2019 and I just decided to go into nursing school and started this semester and I won't graduate until December of 2021, almost 10 years after I graduated high school. I get down on myself sometimes for this but everyone does things in their own time and everyone follows their own path - there's no "normal". Do what's best for you!

I had almost an identical experience. My first two and a half years of school I did horrible. I thought I had no choice but to change my major because i thought I’d never get into a nursing program. I changed my major for a semester and fell into a huge slump because I knew I wanted to be a nurse. I also had a “coming to Jesus” moment and was like “you know what, i know i want to be a nurse so i’m gonna do it” and I worked my ass off in school to raise my grades. They still weren’t anywhere near perfect, BUT I just accepted into an amazing BSN program in my area!! TRUST ME, if i can do it, anyone can!! ❤️ if this is what you really want to do: do not give up!

I completely relate to this. All my life nursing has been my absolute passion. I took Anatomy & Physiology NOT ONE, NOT TWO BUT THREE TIMES! (thank god they were just withdrawals for the first two times) but the third time I finally got a B! I worked my butt off I am telling you. I have always been so determined to be a nurse for however long it takes me because I believe it is God's plan. This summer I took Anatomy 2 & microbio ONLINE and ACED both!!! I worked my a** off! I now am planning to take my TEAS twice in the next few months before I apply in January to my program. Me and my Bestie both applied for two Schools of Nursing. I finished A&P I and II, Psychology, and Microbiology with a 4.0. I graduated 4th in a class of 189 in HS, and he had 3.4 in Prereq’s. My ACT 28, his 19. He got into the preferred program, I got into my second choice. Point, the interview, confidence, and social skills/life experience are very important in the process. I don’t care what their point system says.

GIRL, you have no idea how much I needed to watch this video. I also went to FAU and I was like you, I breezed through high school with no issues. I came to FAU with my desire to be a nurse, but I didn’t take the course seriously enough. I failed a lot of my courses, and spiraled into depression. I eventually dropped out. Fast forward about 4 years later, I’m back in school, and only have my sciences left before I transfers to a University for their nursing program. I’m just really glad I’m not alone in this. Now 7 years later I am finally going back to school and working in the rest of my prerequisites I need for the nursing program! I kept debating all that time if nursing was for me. Girl this helped me so much I'm in my second year of a two year RPN program passed every class except clinical due to some health issues I was having and had to wait an entire year over to maybe get a spot in a 3rd den clinical again I'm so nervous hoping and praying I get a spot but I'm not a priority student because I'm now out of sink. I'm honestly at one of the lowest places I've ever been mentally just trying to keep up on my notes and pray they find me a spot for clinical.... all my friends just had their pinning ceremony and that was a hard day to watch..... but you're right in the grand scheme if one more year is what I need for the grand plan to have things line up then so be it it'll be worth it in the end pray for me or send some good vibes this way I could use it lol. Love all your videos such inspiration in them all.

Wow , this video couldn’t have come at a better time. I’ve been so upset because I’m failing my A&P & I will have to retake it. And Because I was trying so hard to bring up that grade, I’ve got a low grade in my other class. I’ve been beating myself because I did not want to be that person retaking classes. I feel so pressured by others. But your right !! I need to take things at my own pace & do what I can do !! Time flys regardless right ?? Thank you , I’m so glad to hear this from a KZbinr. I've been watching a plethora of motivational videos lately but THIS one here has really resonated with me. I'm a rising junior at UNC Chapel Hill and I've been worrying so much to the point where I thought my future was over and that I let my family down. I am so happy I watched this video. I am currently taking A&P and struggling. My professor said to his whole lecture class "if you struggle during this class, you might want to rethink your career plan" which completely shook me, I started questioning everything and whether I was even smart enough to do this. This is the very first time I comment on a video. I was moved to do so to appreciate you, as listening to your story about how you got into Nursing school after failing anatomy really encouraged me as I am in the same situation as you were. I got a C in both anatomy and Physiology. However, unlike you, I was told that I could not repeat them before they expire in 5 years. I applied to some nursing schools but did not get accepted. I was actually very limited when it comes to applying because all the schools want you to have at least 2.5 GPA in science courses. Fall 2018 will mark the 5th year, then I will be able to retake Anatomy. In the meanwhile, I pursued my Bachelor in Health Science and GOD willing I will be graduating in December. I intend to retake anatomy and reapply, but this time towards either an accelerated BSN or MSN program. It's clear that you are a great Nurse! Nursing would have missed you hadn't you persevere...Again it shows that failing science classes does not in any way mean that you cannot survive nursing school or nursing is not for you. For a first time, I wrote too much! Just to say thank you! I wish you well in your career!

This video helped me so much. I started off as a nursing major my freshmen year of college but after seeing my prereq course grades for the nursing program and hearing how hard my schools program is, I was super discouraged and decided to change my major. I am now a junior and am applying to the nursing program tomorrow.. if I don't get in I will have to retake a few courses. I was super stressed that I won't be graduating on time but you made me feel so much better. This is what I want and I want it bad. I know I will make a great nurse one day. I went from smiling to wanting to cry for hours because I felt so alone. Somehow I've been doing good so far with my summer classes. Amen! I’m a pre-nursing major and my parents always stress that I should keep up with everyone else. I disagree (quietly ofcourse). I believe that you should go your pace in order to make sure you understand the material because not everyone learns the same way. I’m scared of taking my first A&P exam in two weeks because I have no idea how I should study for it. This video and others has helped me realize that I can go at my own pace and learn it the way that is easier for me to understand.

This video is inspirational 💖 I graduated Dec. 2017 with my bachelor's in an unrelated degree. I finally decided right before graduation I wanted to go back for Nursing at my local community college ADN program, starting with pre reqs this summer 18'... I did take A&P1 w/o lab in 2016 and I failed it, not being serious at all, and falling behind. Plus, I have a very low GPA from being irresponsible smh 🤦🏾, so this ADN program is pretty much the only one I found in-state that I qualify for (only pre req GPA required)... So things kind of starting falling apart after graduation. I lost my job in Feb. Then in March, i found out my car needed $1k+ in repairs and is not driveable. And on that same day, I also found out I have no more financial aid (grants/loans), bc of my bachelor's degree. Sooo I'm currently saving for school, and to take a CNA course this September. I still have 1 yr of pre reqs + 2 yrs Nursing school...😩 But, *sigh* I know this is all God's plan and his timing. I cried when I found out I couldn't go back, but God makes no mistakes. I had to realize the Devil is trying to stop me, bc he knows how God will use me. But I know I will get through.🌹 & God recently blessed me w/an at home position for Apple that I wanted for 2 yrs, that I could not have taken being in school... I have to remind myself to trust his perfect timing 💖

And I didn't realize I've watched it already and left this comment in summer 2018 lol, so now i'll update it. TIME FLIES... almost 2 years after this comment... I'm in such a different place since then. Wow... My car was fixed in august 2018, I no longer work at Apple, I did a CNA program summer 2019, but I never got the license or worked in the field... I still want to though. I started my prereqs Fall 19' part-time, I made all A's. I'm currently finishing up my prereqs this spring 20', and summer 20' i just have to take micro w/lab. So far, this semester I have all A's, a full-time student... (I'm taking 2 easy non required courses to help my gpa). Still paying for my classes out of pocket... Things haven't been easy, I'm relying on faith. 🙏🏾 Praying the semester goes great with this Corona Virus, and us being online for the remainder... Taking the HESI in August or so... I plan on applying for nursing school (ADN) in Sept, to start Spring 2021, and finish Fall 2022... I'm grateful i ran across this video and comment, I should come back when I'm accepted. ❤️

Melody Juan don’t give up!! I messed up my freshman year at a university was occupied bullshitting and not taking school seriously was disqualified cause of my grades. Took a semester off and worked full time as a CNA I went back to school at a community college worked my butt off getting good grades and now I’m finally graduating in spring. Even my own parents would ask why I’m taking forever don’t listen to people you are on your own time, just continue and work hard you will get there!!

Ok so I just finished my second semester of college and LET ME TELL YOU. I failed Anatomy 2 this semester and I was heartbroken and I took my HESI the DAY BEFORE it was due and I passed and I’m struggling in Chem right now, my final is Wednesday and I HAVE to get at least a B to pass the course!!! This video encouraged me sooo much bc I flew through high school without any effort and college is such a slap in the face to real life and i am now motivated to stop being so lazy and study and get my ish together to bring up my GPA!! I started at my local community college and I did so good but I than transferred to UNCC which was the school o wanted to go and like you said I did the bare minimum for the community college and I thought it would be the same at the university and I was so wrong I failed my Anatomy and all I could get was Cs and I was so upset cause I eventually got academic suspension. Yesterday I graduate from a Trade school with a Medical Assistant Certificate and I graduated with high honors I was always on the deans list. TBH I never thought I could find a way to reach my goal to be an RN but yesterday I realized I could do it and that’s the next step for me. I’m so happy your video was recommended Bc I don’t feel so alone. I felt stupid af for failing anatomy and I thought I wasn’t good enough. Thank you for sharing your experience. ❤️

This is so encouraging for other students and thank you for being so real and honest! A lot of people like to make it appear as though they have the perfect grades and perfect scores, when it's completely normal and human to make a few mistakes! I got a B in anatomy but an A in the other two required classes for my nursing program and I got a pretty good score on the TEAS exam! I officially submitted my nursing school application and I have about 25 days till I find out!

I was thinking of pulling out from trying to get into a nursing program. Then KZbin recommends me nursing videos from you. I have only watched doctor videos, but never nursing videos which feels like a sign to keep going. I have a BA but the recommendation was to get a 2.0gpa minimum so I scored a 2.8gpa since I didnt care and thought that my GPA for my BA wouldnt effect trying to get into the nursing program. Then I talked to the nurse adviser at the community college. She told me I would not make it and gave me doubts but I was confident that I could do it. She said that the only way I have a chance is to volunteer a lot, get recommendations from professors and people in the medical field (docs, nurses, etc), and make sure for nutrition, anatomy, microbiological, physiology, and psychology all A's. I got the A for nutrition and will be taking anatomy this fall. The professor posted her PowerPoints and never have I ever regretted so much for not remembering my lower ge's science courses info that I learned. I took anthropology and psychology and they touched on some points that anatomy focused on. Looking at the first 2 chapters, I feel so stupid for not even remembering. I honestly feel so nervous of not getting the A's I need and getting at least a 95 for the TEAS. I really wish I get those A' s, at least a 95 on the TEAS, and get into the nursing program. For me, the prerequisites, textbooks, TEAS, and applying for nursing program fees comes out of my broke pocket. I'm taking the risk of not using my BA to work at the same place my friend works at, throwing money into trying to get into nursing, and not working at all to focus on the prerequisites for nursing. I really wish I make it into the program, pass everything in nursing, and be able to pay it off since I'll be getting loans. If not, I'll go and do office work with my BA. I really dont want to do that though...

(I REALLY was not focusing where I should have been) I had to drop anatomy and felt like such a failure. But this past summer I spent 12 weeks taking A&P 1 and 2 and got a B in both! This is so freaking helpful and eye opening because I'm in the same boat! I may not want to be a nurse but a radiographer and I'm in my second semester of college. Unfortunately I'm failing anatomy and was FREAKED out and thought "I fail anatomy I don't get into Radiography" And honestly this video helps me a lot. It really helps me. For those interested in online classes, make sure they'll be accepted. I'm using notes during my exams. Some are self paced too. Try your best so you don't have to repeat. I'm doing them and have to really try to be focused. I'll make it.

I feel like the first 2 semesters of college shouldn’t even count towards your GPA. It seems like everyone does poorly then causes stress and anxiety. I also experienced this! It was almost embarrassing having the nursing advisor at my school look over my transcripts. You’re such an inspiration to many of us still chugging along... waiting for that acceptance letter. When I finally finish my degree it will have taken me a total of 6 years. I work full time and am only able to take 1-2 classes at a time; but I don’t let it discourage me because one day I’ll be doing what I was put in this earth to do! 💪🏻

This is so motivational! Our beginning story is very much alike. My 1st semester in college I did horrible! My counselor and I sat down after my first semester and she flat out told me there is so way you’re gonna get into a nursing program with grades like this and to basically tighten up. But that next semester I was on it! A/B with all prerequisite... now Im just finishing up my 1st semester of nursing school. 3 more to go... you are goals sis!
